Title: 2,500 point army for review...
Asrai-fan - September 1, 2005 07:10 PM (GMT)
I'm not new here, it's just that my account (Prince_Of_Caledor) doesn't seem to exist anymore.
Anyway, what do you think of this army? any ideas?
LORD(S)-
Highborn, light armour, wild rider kindred, elven steed, spear of twilight, blight of terrors - 296, army general, leading Wild Riders of Kurnous
HERO(ES)-
Noble, eternal kindred - 80, leading Eternal Guard
Spellsinger, level 2, hail of doom arrow, ranu's heartstone - 175, lore of athel loren
Spellsinger, level 2, starfire arrows, deepwood sphere - 175, lore of athel loren
CORE UNIT(S)-
8 Dryads - 96
10 Glade Guard - 120
10 Glade Guard - 120
6 Glade Riders - 146
19 Eternal Guard, musician, standard bearer, banner of war - 271
SPECIAL UNIT(S)-
8 Wardancers - 144
4 Tree Kin - 260
5 Wild Riders, musician, standard bearer, saemrath - the banner of zenith - 173
RARE UNIT(S)-
6 Waywatchers - 144
Treeman - 285
TOTAL = 2,483 pts.
As for my tactics:
I put the noble in the eternal guard to make them stubborn. I intend to use the etneral guard to soak up charges, hence the large number and banner.
I was going to use the glade riders to charge units, whilst the dryads flank the same enemy units. And the same tactic for the wild riders (with the general) and wardancers respectively.
I would use the spellsingers (wiht the arrows and magic) and the waywatchers to cut snipe at various enemies.
And last but by no means least, the treeman and tree kin would be used on artillery and other such things.
Any ideas or advice?

It's a bit heavy in magic and accessories. Wood Elves are already expensive enough in general to be outnumbered anyway. Don't make it worse for yourself.
Another point about wood elves, don't try to make an uber unit. I guess you can get away with it in 2.5k, but still.. the highborn and wild riders are too decked out for what is just 6 lightly armoured models.
The general set up is fine, but it just seems to me like one of my "dream" lists before I see I'm five or six hundred points over, and I realise I've got way too much funky gear and not enough army. Arguably it matters less at 2.5k, but it's still something to think about.
8 dryads for 96pts. For me that unit epitomises Wood Elves. Get more little units that are effective yet expendable.

Looks good. You don't need 5 warhawk riders though. 3 is enough, especially with them being US2 each. 4 is being safe, 5 is overkill.
You don't really need 4 treekin either, but as they're more about the toughness and sticking around, I guess you may as well. Just remember that 96pts is all you need for another dryad unit.

Thinking aboout it now, another unit of dryads is never a bad thing, and 3 tree kin should efinitely be enough considering I also have a tree man.
Thanks for the advice, this final draft looks much better than what I started out with.
And now for a confession; in the first draft, the lord was orignally riding a great stag instead of a normal steed, I've since realised just how much overkill that was.

Looks good now, well done. What's it for? You got a specific battle in mind or is it just a general list you're working towards?
Asrai-fan - September 2, 2005 02:05 PM (GMT)
Really just a general, all-purpose army list I plan to start out with (or rather start out with the 1k list and collect up to this one).
I only know 3 people who play warhammer, one uses dwarfs, one uses lizardmen, and the last uses dogs of war, any ideas who I should battle first?
