they look cool, but there really isnt anything spectacular about them IMO. simply multipart dwarfs, would be nice to see them assembled and painted.
EDIT: ok I changed my mind :P

They looks awesome. It indeed is about time that the dwarves got some more plastic models considering they only have one box of them... The picture for the front of the army book isnt loading... is it just that they are getting new models? or maybe a possible re-write?
Drauthnir - August 30, 2005 04:46 AM (GMT)
If anything, they could always be given more plastics in the range.
The added bits are cool. It does make quite an improvement on the set.
Anyway...I'm moving this topic.

A re-write is going to happen acording to
GW sales data from German GD (don't know if we can link to other forum, remove the link if it's not allowed)

Well, you kinda need big pics to see the detail on a sprue, but never mind...
TBH I don't really like these new models - they're just not different enough. The beards are different, and they actually have real great weapons now, but they're still static and knee-less. Disappointing.

After stumbling around a few sites, this is what I gathered about the new Dwarfs:
Warrior boxed set: You get yer normal warriors (hand weapon/shield etc), but with enough parts to make them into Great-weapon warriors, Longbeards (glue on a longer beard ;)) and random bits to make them look like rangers (ropes, hats etc).
Rangers will be a scout upgrade from the normal Warriors. Kinda like the scout upgrade for Glade Guard in the Wood Elf book (no more scouting units than parent units).
But not skirmish; there are NO SKIRMISHING UNITS.
Apparantly there will only be a few ‘Warmachine’ boxes. So for example, you buy a one box variant and you have enough parts to build a cannon or an organ gun (like the empire cannon/mortar box).
Organ-gun range increased.
There is also rumoured to be a new warmachine altogether: “Steam-hammer”
Crossbowmen and Thunderers will be made out of one box set (kinda seems to be a theme here doesn’t it? :P)
Plastic Slayers are uncomfirmed, but they come with many alternating parts allowing for different poses etc
New Special characters speculated for the new book will be Joseph Bugman (the drunk ranger) and Thorgrimm Grudgebearer (the king on the throne of power).
Engineers , the Anvil of Doom and (most importantly) the Gyrocopter have had their rules ‘tweaked’ to be more useful apparently (Anvil grants a slight advantage in movement, engineers increases gun ranges or something, gyro just ‘better’)
More info on the Engineers: may apparently be bought as an ‘upgrade’ for warmachine crews, or can be a separate hero.
More info on the Anvil: as I said, some sort of rune that gives a bonus in the movement department. Also several (3 was said) runes that are activated in the SHOOTING PHASE that CANNONT be dispelled!
There are also some rumours that the Anvil grants bonuses on the Dwarfs for the entire game (like the Ogre’s gut magic), and weaknesses on the enemy for the entire game.
Magic Defence is supposed to improve even more! (thanks to some random bonuses the rune lord grants)
Longbeards give some sort of Leadership bonuses to warriors around them (re-roll panic or break tests or something like that). The general consensus seems to be ‘with Longbeards in the army, you have to rely less on characters’.
Not much word on miners, just that they function like tunnelling teams (duh ;)) which may charge.
Thunderer guns will actually be BETTER than the Empire’s handguns (and rightly so!).
Characters can stand on Shields like King Alrik, which makes them better in combat (harder to hit or simply tougher)
No SOC abilities in the new book (although The Gobline Hewer in apparently still allowed…), but Slayer Characters have been tweaked and somehow are a lot more attractive option.
A few new runes have been added, a few old ones gotten rid of, and general tweaks in rune prices etc, no big changes here.
There is some sort of general army rule that makes it harder for the enemy to charge Dwarf flanks or something. The details on this are very sketchy, but it is supposed to make up for the Dwarf’s low manoeuvrability.
There is also rumours of units of US2 dwarfs (!) and immunity to being outnumbered (eat that Skaven and Gobbos!)
All unit/character stats are supposed to stay the same, just special abilities and prices etc are planned to change.
The look of the new miniatures make the Dwarfs look a lot more ‘clan-like’ than they are currenty (a lot of ‘mask’ options for models (like the WE masks)).
But the new models are apparently a lot ‘bulkier’ than the old ones ;)
The Character models are supposed to be VERY nice: a Engineer carrying all sorts or gadgets, a Lord with a triple-barrelled pistol etc
Fluff will be expanded (apparently there is a new development in Karak Eight Peaks due to an upcoming ‘Gotrek and Felix’ novel).
January is supposedly the release date (so that you get get pre-orders in for x-max no doubt <_<).
Germany will be the first country to get the new models/book, but apparently the book has already been translated to all the languages so its only a difference of a few days ;)
Most of the above info was let slip by Gav himself at a games event interview, so most of it is official.
GENERAL FEELING OF THE NEW BOOK: it will more than satisfy Dwarf generals ;)
Tyrion - August 30, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
that US2 troops and immunity to outnumber sounds a bit overpowered to me at least ;) dwarfs are already hard as nails..
Murmandus - August 30, 2005 09:59 PM (GMT)
i love the new dwarf warrior sprues there so cool. i can't wait to see the new special unit models and artillery
Ross - August 31, 2005 08:32 AM (GMT)
Awesome, I've rekindled my love for stunties.clan eshin? Nah, its an engineer themed dwarf list for me :P
BTW, some of the new box set seems good, like the 2 hand great weapon and the new shields, but the stick on beards look ridiculously small.
Oh, and the new dwarf army book cover is AWESOME. it reminds me so much of LotR dwarfs, I remember reading "the hobbit" and seeing all this fantastic dwarf artwork, I love it so much.
EDIT:Don't tell me, they're making the dwarfs "more darker and unforgiving than before" :P not like they've not done that to some armies recently :P

I hope they won't do this to all armies. If they do, it will become like Warhammer 40K: a universe so dark that there is nothing beautiful or peaceful, only blood, metal and darkness. That's the reason why I prefer Fantasy: the world is sure dangerous and grim, but there's still beauty and joy. In 40K, it's just too dark, and dying almost looks like a liberation. "In the grim darkness of the far future..."
And anyway, how could Dwarves be "more unforgiving"? If a man insults a Dwarf, the entire Dwarven people will declare merciless war against all mankind. They will become worse yet?!
Derek101 - September 3, 2005 06:02 PM (GMT)
Well, they are an improvement on the old models and I am beginning to like them; all in all, they're not that bad.
But I don't think this is too exclusive or anything, the warriors are in the sneak peak of the UK GW site right
here.
Ross - September 4, 2005 08:45 AM (GMT)
Hmmm. Some good detail, but they're a lot smaller than I thought and they all look similar. Plus, GW's new colour scheme is too similar to the one i wanted for my dwarfs.
