Recently, I've noticed on quite a few forums (The Pyramid Vault and the Warhammer Forum, to name a few), that quite a few Lizardmen players are actually using lists that have NO SAURUS BLOCKS WHATSOEVER!
A list like this usually has some of the the following:
-JSOD Oldblood or Scar-Vet
-2 or more Skink Priests (and maybe a FSOD)
-plenty of Skinks
-1 or 2 units of Kroxigor, either 3 or 4-large
-1 or 2 units of Terradons, sometimes at 4 each
-pssobily a small unit of Cold One Riders
-a Salamander pack
-a Stegadon
What results is a very mobile list with no ranked units whatsoever. I ask the Lizardmen players here:
-has any of you ever fielded such a list?
and
-have you ever had much success with such a list?
I am curious to see how such a list can be used effectively.
 lol. I never expected to see some one ask that question. Are no Saurii armies good? Yes. It the only wany Lizardmen get competative, and win tournies, and boy do they get competative. Saurii are on the whole a rubbish unit, and armies with them in suffer no end. I doth belive no LIzard army has ever placed top ten or even very well with Saurii in the list. As much as Chili loves Saurii even he would conceed that stronger lists are made without them. Indeed I maintain it is impossible to make competative lists with Saurii in. Have you never heard of the skink army of death or of the all skirmish lizard armies? They are infamously deadly on the battlefield. They aren't so fun to play, but they are more challanging and far more savage.

have to diagree with you on that one ras, saurus blocks are mostly the backbone of a lizardmen army and it is they that you need to charge units in the front while your krox go for a flank charge IMO.
you may argue that they are to slow but that dosent matter, they have two attacks and toughness 4. true an army of skinks is good but wheres the fun in playing that? saurus are the unit that holds when the swords start flinging about ^_^
so in my opinion i do not find that saurus are a poor unit, they are one of the hardest units in Fantasy IMHO
theres my bit, dan
As fun as Saurii may be they are absalute pap if you want to be competative. They don't see combat untill turn 5 unless your opponent wants them to or is a fool. They may be tough, but they still go down without much effort, and against most armies you aren't going into combat at full US. They are just like chaos Warriors in that respect, to slow, to expensive. The additional problem is that one can only really run two units and then can't support them with long ranged magic or shooting, meaning you always have to go on the offense with what is a defensive troop type. In the empire army Saurii would rock, but not with lizards. I realise this puts the lizards in a tight spot 'cause you then have to start playing all skirmishy and such, what you need is the Soteck list without the spec character restriction....
