I know that i will have not have much magical defence but i am aiming to be in combat in 2 turns. My 4 characters will form a unit that will have a combined 17 s6 attacks with re rolls and they are all flying and my count has regeneration. I will most likely be using my spells to cast healing on my characters or to raise units to block units shooting. My plan is to run forward as fast as i can with the fell bats taking out war machines and light shooting units.
power dice- 4
dispel dice- 3
amount of attacks - Stupid amounts :D
the king of dumbass - August 9, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
get a Black coach (basicly a chariot) sell a regiment of ghouls and 1 fell bats
And its a good list you'll probably kill a whole regimant with 1 vampire and you can also bring skeletons and zombies back from the grave so by a regimental box set of skeletons and zombies if you want to, my apoinent brang back 20 skeletons in about 3 turns and wiped out my brettonion knights by failing LD tests and by that vampire
Ras - August 9, 2005 07:44 PM (GMT)
This may sound mean, so I apologise in advance because I am in no way trying to be mean or rude. Any way...
...What the hell? Are you mad? Your units are completely the wrong sizes. Fell bats don't want to be bigger then 3, Dire wolves only want to be 5-6 (unless you are playing with ranked units) and ghouls never want to be bigger then 10 strong. It looks like you have taken all the support units in the VC army and made them into main units. They just aren't designed to do what you seem to be wanting to do. They are no harder to kill but are now worth enough points for me to actually want to kill them!. By all means be a cheeky bugger and play with a slippery armmy, but do it by adding in more units, not bigger units. Split the ghouls in half and have twice as many units, same with the Wolves. Drop thats bat down to 3 strong and bring in some Spirit Hosts, bat swarms, Banshees and if you are feeling mean through in the a unit of Knights. Please, just don't make a darlic walk up stairs...
Tyrion - August 9, 2005 08:32 PM (GMT)
ah, this strigoi flying circus. I have yet to grasp this sort of army. this army really relies on the vampires to kill everything they touch. my view of running VC is big blocks that swamps and runs down the enemy, but this is compleatly different. but as you want to run an army like this, I wont argue with that.
Ras actually has a point, ghouls, fell bats, wolves..all these unit are support units and I dont know how they work like this. I mean ghouls have no rank bonus to speak of so that is a big bunch of attacks wasted. same with the wolves and bats for that matter.
I have seen this sort of army at the blood keep, but it had a lot of zombie regiments instead, would work much better, altho they will not be fast. anybody else have run an army like this?
Murmandus - August 9, 2005 09:33 PM (GMT)
:thumb: hmmm, i think i may take your advice ras. I played a 1,000pt game against wood elves today with 3x 20 ghouls and 3 x thralls with bat form. It worked ok but one unit got wiped out by the dryads, but the other managed to hold its own... just. and one managed to wound his heroe then run him down because of combat res :P he had 6 attacks with killing blow and missed with all of them :D . I will definetly be keeping the 60 ghouls, but will split them into units of 10( i want to keep the strigoi theme) but will be changing two of my thralls for necromancers and adding 2 units of 20 skeletons and a unit of 8 black knights, i will be having 2 units of 4 fell bats for war machine hunting and a unit of spirit hosts and a black coach. i'm hoping i can fit this all in and will be adding a list later. I''m thinking of changing my army to blood dragon as i have found that if i don't wipe out or run down a unit in the first round if combat with my thralls, they get the living shi.. err... crap kicked out of them. I will post a list in about 15 mins re-edited.
EDIT:
I've done a complete 180 degree turn on this next army and would like to hear what you think about it. The count will join the knights and then the necromancers will float about next to the skeletons. I will use ghouls to screen my skeletons and spirit host to screen my knights and advance up the battle field raising and cursing things as i go. I will use the black coach to take out skirmishers and the like and i might use ghouls to screen that from missile fire instead of skeletons but i don't know yet. :P

Murmandus - August 10, 2005 08:21 AM (GMT)
sorry for the double post, but in your opinion what is the better bloodline for tournies?? at 200pts.
Ras - August 10, 2005 08:25 AM (GMT)
Blimey, what a U-turn. Its completely changed to a more "normal" list. This is the sort of VC list that doesn't bother me, because the only threat is the Necros. Why? Because all the hitty dangerous stuff comes in the form of the Black knights and if you think I am going to let that fight anything but crud then your either mad or amazing. However which ever side that Lord isn't on is one that is likely to get flanked, sending the knights crumbling and crumbaling. Its also a high priority shooting target. Basically its all your eggs in one basket, but its worse then that, you aren't presenting any alternative threats aside from the coach which is like a S7 magnet. What you need is more threats in the army so the enmy doesn't shoot. You see what do you do when facing a hellblaster that you can't kill this turn. You stick as many units in range of it as you can, you can only loose one unit.... If you feed it a unit at a time though it will kill your army, and thats what your list is like...
Prince Cal - August 10, 2005 08:54 AM (GMT)
If your looking for a list like this, I'd go for something more like this:
Strigoi vampire Count: Level 2, summon ghouls, curse of the reverant, ironsinews:340
Strigoi thrall: Iron sinews,Infinite Hatred : 125
Necromancer: Level 2, dispell scroll,black periapt: 140
Necromancer: Level 2, book of arkhan, scroll : 150
24 skelletons: Spears, shields, full command: 241 (5*5 with the count)
24 zombies: standard: 144
24 zombies: standard: 144
5 dire wolves: 50
5 dire wolves: 50
5 dire wolves: 50
5 ghouls: 40
5 ghouls: 40
5 ghouls: 40
6 ghouls: 48
20 graveguard: halberds, shields, heavy armour, full command, war banner: 355 (joined by Thrall)
3 fell bats: 60
PD: 8+2 bound spells
DD: 5 + 2 scrolls
Models: 130
While your list has the count away mine has him near, while yours lacks warmachine hunters mine has 3, i have a solid infantry line and in general a more balanced army.
Derfel - August 10, 2005 04:12 PM (GMT)
Yep, Prince Cal, pretty much.
Except for the spears, as always, and forget the aesthetically pleasing 5x5, just put them 4-wide. ;)
And I never like graveguard equipped like that. Their main purpose is always to just hold against really, really tough units, never to actually win combats by themselves. There is NOTHING I know of that can plausibly kill a unit of graveguard in 1 turn. It is perhaps the most effective tarpit in the game. The points should therefore be geared towards improving their survivability, and at the same time their cost should be kept down as low as possible, i.e. 13 per pop. I have a problem with Drakenhof Guard for this reason.
Anyways... about your original list.
I refrained from commenting at first, because it looks like it would cost somewhere along the order of one hundred million dollars. :D wasn't sure if you were being serious.
Ras is mostly right on unit sizes -- except that Wolves can never get rank bonus, so the purpose of having units of 10 -- notably in Sylvanian wolf-lists -- is for sheer stamina, and for US. In fact I think I've seen some lists with 2 units of 15 or 20... but always accompanied by many units of 5.
10 Bats is just...  <_<
the king of dumbass - August 10, 2005 04:21 PM (GMT)
loook at this link
http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/you get 10% of and the P&P is free around the world you can also create army deals and get 15%off (I think) and can change the curancy to US dollers, UK pounds and Austrailian Dollers

Ras - August 11, 2005 08:09 AM (GMT)
Nope it still doesn't have anything but rubbish troops. You need things that can kill the enemy. Banshees, Wolves, Fell Bats, Black Knights, Black Coaches etc....
You can raise crap troops, so don't worry about starting off with 4 blocks of them, buy periferals and punch, amek your list actually dangerous, because at the moment the fastest thing in your army is the Vampire who I doubt will be running around alone. A first change is to put the Count with a Skelly unti to spread the damage about more. Drop 1-2 hosts and some Skellies/Zombies and put in Baneshees, Wolves, Knights and if you can, Bats. Speed the list up, and give it more punch, because at the moment you are just relying on your +4/5 CR and fear, and that just won't do anything to alot of armies... Also downgrade your Lord to a Count. YOu have no need for that extra attack/wound and the points saved are huge, allowing you to really get into making some changes. I would drop both Zombie units, Downgrade the Lord and loose two spirit hosts and then add in: 2 Banshees, 8 Black Knights, 2+ units of 5-6 Wolves and then if you have points left over add in spirit hosts and increase the size of your remaining three blocks. You wanna be much bigger then 20. Aim for 30, but settle at 25...
Prince Cal - August 11, 2005 08:55 AM (GMT)
I run a 3 block system. The skellies work with the count to form a unit which can break the enemy with quite a lot of ease considering the count is a combat monster, the zombies are tar pits. I keep them nice and big so I don't have too bulk them up with my casting as that's great for causing havoc with the enemy. I then have a unit of Grave Guard for some punch, I have both sets of weapons because I want the flexibility. Then I have ghouls to annoy, wolfies for general purposes and bats too annoy. Some times I have bat form on the thrall. Why have I done this you you may ask, because my list has what's needed in a vampire army to do ok.
As for your list I'd go for a strigoi count, they're the best bloodline by far IMO, if you wanna go von carstein go for the swords of chaos list. The next thing I'd do is drop 1 zombie unit and bring the other 3 up in size, I'm not a fan of black knights in strigoi armies and 3 units of 25 will do a great job of supporting the grave guard. Then I'd drop those spirt hosts, they're never done much for me and I'd rather bring in 2 units of 5 wolfies, 3 fell bats and a banshee.
Derfel - August 11, 2005 05:57 PM (GMT)
Please note, a Von Carstein lord level character can NOT take armour. Flayed Hauberk is out.
Murmandus - August 12, 2005 08:17 PM (GMT)
i've tried to combine all your comments together, i've decided not to use a thrall and go for wight lord and 3 necros for raising power.
