Title: Question
Description: About my lovely woodies

I'm getting the new book soon (prolly when I go back to school cuz a lot of ppl play there so I'll have more people to play with) and I just had one question about GG.
At close range (I think 18" or under?) are their arrows Armor Piercing ( and what exactly is armor piercing in Fantasy context...I know what it means for 40k) or are their arrows at increased Str. ( I read on another forum they would be Str. 4).
Just a little question I have. Thanks guys.

They're armor-piercing. Armor-piercing means -2 to the armor save.

Thier arrows are strength 4, but hence do not have the rule armour peircing anywhere I can see.. However due to strength 4 at half range, which is subsequently 15", they do -1 off your opponents armour save and make them slightly easier to wound

Wilko has it. @ztech, where did you get the idea they were armour piercing? Unless you were mistaken and not just using conjection, please don't answer these sorts of Yes/No questions without being sure of the answer.

Thanks guys. Just to clarify:
They are Str. 4 arrows and at close range (15") they do -1 to AS? If I'm understanding that correctly....damn they got some force....esp. w/ the no -1 to move and shoot. :)

Not quite. They're normal longbows, except at short range, they're strength 4.
This indirectly means that there is a -1 to armour saves at short range, but only because of the strength modifier.

Ahhh Ok. I got it now. Thanks a bunch :)

just to change direction a minute. This makes GG very good as they can move forward to under half range and still be hitting on 3+ str 4

pity is that they are the only wood elf bows that do it, althought I do see why they arent on glade riders, but don't you think that glade riders should have this rule, just to give them a bit more of a punch, seeing as they only have a 6+ armour save  now thats appauling for cavalry
Roland Durendal - August 10, 2005 02:52 PM (GMT)
3+ Str 4 is good to me :D Though I do agree as to why it's only GG who get the WE bows and scouts and GR get...not so good bows....I agree GR should have them b/c it would give them more punch considering their (IMO) horrendous AS.

ummm, I don't see why glade riders should have it. Gamewise, it would make them ridiculously powerful fast cavalry that would just run around the enemy and shoot them... and that's about it. Fluff-wise... do you have any idea how hard it would be to fire a bow with that type force... on horseback?
Xarhain - August 11, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
Do you? :P
Just kidding RG, don't eat me.
By the way, I've seen you over at Asrai.org. It is you right, and not some imposter ^_^

woo,
Asrai.org, I'm Inspector over there (mod) ;)
I also agree that it would be silly if GR got the short range bonuses.
The theory is that GG have better maintained/produced bows, and because they fire in volleys (as opposed to individual shots of GR and Scouts etc) that is why they get the short range bonus.

They are not Armor Peircing. That was the old rules.
