Thorgil Thorsson is an old dwarf, his bushy, white beard and time-worn features giving him a completely unjustified air of respectability. For those who come to know him, this quickly dissolves: Thorsson is almost certainly not his real name, and it is thought that at some point in his long and not-so-illustrious past, he committed or was subjected to a disgrace that would drive the more honourable members of his race onto the path of the Slayer: Thorgil, however, has a healthy regard for his own hide, and decided to disappear and make a living in the Empire rather than end his life in a Troll’s cave.
If he knew any Bretonnian, Thorsson would describe himself as an “entrepreneur” – as it is, he has to settle for “opportunist”, which is perhaps a more accurate description, although "rogue" and "con-man" (con-dwarf?) would also be appropriate. He works on the principle that if he enlists in or initiates enough mad ventures, one day one will turn out to be the Next Big Thing: he finds his main source of income between schemes by prospecting, mainly for hefty fees extracted painstakingly from human mining firms who will pay handsomely to have a dwarf on board. He has twice attempted to set up his own small mining enterprises, but they have folded as reliably as everything else he has been involved in. He has a nose for gold surpassed only by his hearing, which can pick up phrases like “down-payment” seemingly through several stone walls; many small businessmen with big ideas have inadvertently brought about their ruin by speaking too loudly near Thorgil Thorsson, who has a surprising talent for bluffing his way in at the very top of any enterprise.
A typical dwarf in his stubborn, literal-minded and unforgiving nature, he deviates from the standard template on one major point: he has none of the strait-laced honour or discipline of his respectable brethren, and is quite happy to deceive, coerce and extort his way in or out of any situation. He is generally affable to anyone who he thinks might be a potential employer or “colleague”, and he can be roused to a swift and vengeful fury against anyone who thieves from him or obstructs him in the general acquisition of wealth. Apart from that, he is rather indifferent to others, making both friends and enemies slowly if at all: funnily enough, he is usually happier when footloose and penniless between his projects than when working on them, although he will deny this most strenuously if pressed.

Konrad Unruh was born a noble in the city of Altdorf. His family was of middling wealth, granting him access to education and an easy lifestyle, as well as contacts among the elite of the city, all of which he used to avoid having to work at anything, ever for any reason.
When he was a young man, his father was accused of consorting with the Dark Powers, and in order to avoid suspicion himself, Konrad gave the Witch Hunters evidence against him, in exchange for a place in their order. Thinking that theirs was a relatively easy life, free of the suspicion and ill fortune that could fall upon normal men, he was sorely disappointed to discover that they were actually very rigorous, training their minds and bodies to fight evil wherever they could find it.
Nonetheless, he gradually became accustomed to this life, and was welcomed fully by the others. He began participating in their inquisitions and raids, and among the wrongfully accused men he encountered some who were truly horrible as well. To protect himself from these sights, as well as the growing guilt at having turned his father in, he turned to the Church, and is now nearly fanatical in his beliefs.

Aesgareth - July 13, 2005 08:24 PM (GMT)
My character shall be named Wihelm Heidegger (I'll write up a bio later) and will take +5 WS as his advance. I'd also like to replace his Toughness with the 31. As for talents, couldja tell me approximitively what they do?
Vriishnak the Twisted - July 13, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
I shall be called Konrad Unruh, and shall replace the WS with the 31. My talent selections are still satisfactory, and I'll provide a bio before too long.
Edit: Haha...ha...ha...woo, woke up at 4 am this morning to go to work, now I'm tired. Anyway, I promised a background, and it looks like you guys are waiting on me, so let's see what my exhausted brain can spew out now.
Whee, broad strokes. That should give you something to work with, anyway.
Aesgareth - July 14, 2005 04:54 AM (GMT)
Gracias. I think I'll go with lightning reflexes, resistance to poison and strike to injure.
LordKjarl - July 14, 2005 08:01 AM (GMT)
My elf shall be called Gavillian Ellesendill.
talents: (these I'll take)
-Specialist Weapon Group (longbow)
-Coolheaded
-Very strong
trappings:
Bow with 10 arrows, net, whip , Leather jack, shield, 10 yards of rope, riding horse with saddle and harness, 11gc common clothes, tattered cloak, dagger in boot, blanket, wooden tankard, wooden cutlery set and a hand weapon
Is this right?
Edit: I've changed my message
LordChilipepa - July 14, 2005 08:28 AM (GMT)
OK...
I'll be called Thorgil Thorsson.
Skill choices:
Trade Miner, not Smith or Stoneworker
Drive, not concealment
Outdoor Survival, not evaluate,
Trade Prospector, not Miner.
Talent choice:
Very Resilient, not Warrior Born.
I'd like to invoke Shallya's Mercy on my Intelligence (seems we all got screwed a bit...) and use my first advance to add 5% to my Strength.
Thorgil's dagger is in his belt, and he has a backpack, not a sling bag.
Bio later.
And that's 5 things, LordKjarl. RoN is just a bit light on the ol' commas - "Backpack, blanket, wooden tankard, wooden cutlery set, hand weapon".
You have to choose between a sling bag or a backpack, and whether your dagger's in your boot or your belt.
LordKjarl - July 14, 2005 01:05 PM (GMT)
Vriishnak the Twisted - July 14, 2005 03:21 PM (GMT)
Oh, and a flail shall be my weapon of choice.
LordChilipepa - July 14, 2005 10:00 PM (GMT)
Thorgil’s bio:
Thorgil Thorsson is an old dwarf, his bushy, white beard and time-worn features giving him a completely unjustified air of respectability. For those who come to know him, this quickly dissolves: Thorsson is almost certainly not his real name, and it is thought that at some point in his long and not-so-illustrious past, he committed or was subjected to a disgrace that would drive the more honourable members of his race onto the path of the Slayer: Thorgil, however, has a healthy regard for his own hide, and decided to disappear and make a living in the Empire rather than end his life in a Troll’s cave.

On a side note: I see my advance has been incorporated, but my Intelligence is still crippled. I did ask for Shallya's Mercy on that one, didn't I...
*checks*
Yes, I did... so shouldn't my Intelligence now be 31?
Aesgareth - July 15, 2005 05:26 AM (GMT)
Ack! I didn't notice the choices involved in equipment selection! Wilhelm's dagger will be in his boot, and he will have a sling-bag instead of a backpack, as that's probably the easier one to grab stuff from in a pinch. His hand weapon is a shortsword, for description purposes.
LordKjarl - July 15, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
some of the changes i still had to make:
-free advance at my BS
-dagger in to the boot
-and I want a sling bag
I'll write a short background this weekend.
LordKjarl - July 17, 2005 07:45 AM (GMT)

Well, that is his bg in a very short version.
*His horse is called Chevalric.
*He fights with a sword thats a little crooked at the end.
*I had a weapon specialisation long bow... but i do not have a long bow but yust a bow? Am I correct and what is the use? how mutch is a long bow cost in the game?
hey can you tell me what these items are, because my english aint that great -_- .
-wooden tankard?
-wooden cutlery set?
-specialist weapon group (entangling), what's the word entangling bacause the translation that is givven makes no sence...?
:D
ciao
Reaper of Nurgle - July 17, 2005 09:23 AM (GMT)
You need specialist weapon group longbow to use longbows or elfbows. A longbow costs 15GC.
A tankard is a large drinking cup with a single handle and a hinged cover
A wooden cutlery set is just a knife fork and spoon for eating meals.
Entangling just means any weapon that ties an enemy up. This includes Bolas,Lasoos and nets.
LordKjarl - July 17, 2005 10:51 AM (GMT)
oh, than my first thing 'll be selling my bow and buying a long bow or something like that . ^_^
when are we going to start?
Reaper of Nurgle - July 17, 2005 11:28 AM (GMT)
When we get the fluff for the other two characters so I can introduce them properly.
And lord kjarl its not as easy to buy and sell things as in other games you have to make tests to check if anything is even avilaible through a gossip test before you can buy it.
You would for a Longbow have to make an average difficculty gossip test which uses fellowship to determine success. As it is a basic skill anyone can try. As you don't have the skill though your fellowship is halved for the purpose of the test so you would have to roll under 16 to find someone selling it.
If you were ina small place of under a 100 people you would roll under 6 (-10) due to the siz of the town making finding weapons harder. If in a big town of over 10,000 people though you would have to roll under(+20) 36 to suceed due to the size of the place.
LordKjarl - July 17, 2005 12:20 PM (GMT)
 Ow that 's not sow good, hehe
oké i hope it starts soon then ;)
LordKjarl - July 21, 2005 11:46 AM (GMT)
Sorry for the double posting... but is this normall it takes so long? Sorry, nut i can't wait to start the rpg, it has been so long since Ive played it.
Vriishnak the Twisted - July 21, 2005 01:17 PM (GMT)
Background is edited in to one of my earlier posts. Apologies for any incoherence, I'm barely awake right now. :)
LordChilipepa - July 21, 2005 08:01 PM (GMT)
No worries - we're still waiting for Aesgareth, anyhoo.
Reaper of Nurgle - July 24, 2005 03:32 PM (GMT)
Right on the posting of aesgareths characters fluff group 1 can get started.
Group 2 I still need your skill talent and equipment choices.
LordKjarl - July 24, 2005 05:36 PM (GMT)

I can't waite
Reaper of Nurgle - August 6, 2005 09:26 AM (GMT)

Wilhelm Heidegger was once of noble blood, a fact that never ceases to burn and fester at the forefront of his thoughts. He was born the only son of a rural noble in eastern Riekland, and, had fate been more accomodating, he would have lived an easy, trouble-free life, or so he likes to tell himself everytime he is forced to confront the misery of his situation. He was only a waif when the schism took place; one of his uncles (or several, the memory isn't all that clear to him) orchestrated the murder of his father, and siezed his estates. Unwilling to kill a mere child, but equally unwilling to be saddled with the care of the progeny of one who he had killed, the man dropped Wilhelm off in an Orphanage in Altdorf, where he was suddenly forced to exist amid a squalor that, at his young age, he could never have fathomed to exist. The misery of his new life was a hard pill to swallow, and he was often kicked out of the various orphanages for his sullen, tempermental behavior. Life in the streets was little better, and his constant battle for survival did nothing to improve his outlook on life. It did, however, make him rather good at defending himself, and inflicting harm on others, and with his naturally strong build, it wasn't long before he found himself working as an enforcer in one of the many gangs that roamed the poorer parts of the city. His position gave him a bit of leverage, but he could never quite shake the notion that he was better than his fellow criminals, a mindset that, coupled with his bitter outlook on life, did not endear him to them. Eventually, he got tired of having violent confrontations with angry members of the various gangs he had tried to join, and decided to give adventuring a try. Maybe, he fantasizes, he will be able to accumulate enough wealth to take back his title of nobility by force, and live the life that he was meant to.
