Title: cataphract army
Description: brettonian alternative
Tylisarieth - July 3, 2005 06:25 AM (GMT)
i have had a idea for a brettonian/parthian army
the men at arms would be converted to look like this.
http://photobucket.com/albums/y251/Frog123...rn_Infantry.jpgthe knights would look like this
http://photobucket.com/albums/y251/Frog123...Cataphracts.jpgthey would be made out of brettonian steeds with chainmail sculpted onto the cloth(theres an article on how to do this on the GW website somewhere). im not sure where the legs and body would come from but i think i could use HE spearmen arms and large round shields from somewhere. this could be one of my characters
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...&orignav=301116my damsels would be zoroastran fire priests/priestess.
THIS damsel with the staff thing made into a flameing torch
grail relinque becomes a shrine to zoroastra carried by fanatics
i would use the al mucktars dessert dogs RoR but brets cant so those models could become mounted yeomen
what do you think. At the moment i have niehter the converting skills nor the cash to do this but i really want to one day
i think i would end up saying they are from araby because there is no real equivilent to persia in the WH world

It is hard to get a good view of the images in question, but I can see what you are trying to do and wish you all luck in making it work.
I would of course suggest just practicing the look of the models on a pair of KotR just to see if it is going to work out, and if it looks good, go for it.

KoTR could be converted to look like i want.
as a HE player i should have a few spearmen arms lying around

If ure going a sort of araby army wouldnt maybe suign Tk shoield work seneing as if remember properly the persians and all that had gold palted shields and simmliar oens 2 Tk.
Also if u do end up tryign to do soem archers all u would reall have to change would be putting a sheild on the arms and maybe some sort of spiky hat.

Tk shields is a good idea.
archers i havent decided how to do yet

You would need so much green stuff, to convert the barding to chain mail.
But a unit with a -3+ AS would be good :P
Tylisarieth - August 22, 2005 01:47 PM (GMT)
in friendly games i could use a rule saying
cataphract barding
+2as but -2M(only -1 with purebreed warhorse
Shadowknight - August 30, 2005 11:31 AM (GMT)
so a knight would have
heavy armour 5+
shield 4+
steed 3+
cataphract barding 1+?

may i ask is that an iumage of "rome:total war"? brilliant game, anyway the cataphract barding idea sounds pretty good if not slightly on the hard side ^_^
still do you know what colour scheme you will be using for them?
Shadowknight - August 30, 2005 02:37 PM (GMT)
yeh, modelling the green stuff on 8+ knights will get annoying
and it is Rome total war. Although i don't think their that great
Tylisarieth - August 30, 2005 02:55 PM (GMT)
it is rome total war
when i got that game i was inspired to make some cataphracts for warhammer.
i thought brettonia because it fitted my idea of the army better I.E. rubbish, numerous peasants and elite but few knights
i figure the cataphracts wouldnt make the entire army(though you can- and i havedone- make a entire army of them on RTW) so there must be peasants to fill the army out and mounted yeomen with bows especially
