Title: Fitting It In

Dark Lord Joe - June 28, 2005 09:49 PM (GMT)
Ok guys. Ive got well over 2000pts worth and i am now slowly building my way up to 3000pts. I have never really played many large games before so this is a bit of a novelty for me. In 3000pts i would like to create a balanced counter attacking force that can adapt to a variety of situations. It will be an attacking force that waits for the enemy to come to them. Heres what i have, i like help making it into a list.

Highborn on Cold one
2 sorceress' on foot
1 noble on foot

2*20 spearelves w FC
2*12 xbowmen
2*5Dark riders

9COK FC
6 Shades
2 Chariots
10 Executioners

12 Black Guard
2RBTs

Any help would be great.

The only suggestion I would have is to increase the numbers of your black guard and executioners, as they stand now, if your plan backfires in some way and they get charged, you have just lost quite a few points.

Maybe lose the shades to try and make some room, I would like to help more, but I don't have my D. Elf book so I don't know how many points you have actually used so far.

Rogue-Gladiator - June 30, 2005 07:31 PM (GMT)
The executioners should only go up to 12, or if you really have an urge to run around with a big unit of exes, then 15. 20 is far too many, as they aren't a head on charging unit. The Black Guard should be around 20 so they can take more than one round of combat.

9 cold one knights with a highborn?! Don't make a unit that large. It will be hard to manuever, and is basically wearing a sign that says "kill me, I'm a point sink" Granted, it's 3000 points, and you're allowed to have some beefed up units, but that's just asking to be shot up mercilessly. Cut that down to 6 or 8 either in a 6*1 formation or a 4*2 formation.

It'd help alot if you put up the points for this stuff, because I know I'm not going to take the time to calculate it if it isn't my list.

Well the idea of this list was for me not to put the points upThis is a list of the models that I have which I wish to use for a 3000pts list. If you'd actually READ my post you would have known this.
So if you lot cant be bothered to help then maybe I should write a list out.

Highborn on Cold one, Crown of Black Iron and Gauntlet of Power. HA. SDC. Shield 274pts

Sorceress Level 2. Darkstar Cloak. Dispell scroll. 175pts

High Sorceress. Level 3. Wand of Khairadon, heartstone of Darkness, tome of furion. 315pts

Noble Halbeard, SDC, HA. Seal of Ghrond 119pts

2*16 spearelves w FC (153*2) 306pts

2*12 xbowmen (132*2) 264pts

2*5Dark riders musican rxbows(127*2) 254pts

9COK FC Soul Shadows Standard. 356pts

5 Shades 70pts

2 Chariots w spears. (97*2) 194pts

12 Executioners. FC 162pts

16 Black Guard War Banner 316pts

2RBTs 200pts

Ok. That adds up to 2874pts. I dont know what to have to make it up to 3000 but i am thinking of either upgrading one of the sorceress to a high sorceress. Or getting a unit of harpies. Then again, i could get some DOW or increse the black guard.

Also i want to keep the unit of 9 knights as they are likely to pass most panic tests they are required to take and are likely to end up at the enemy with at least 5 models left.

Hopefully that has helped you and now you might be able to give me some help on the list.

I like the idea of upgrading a sorceress into a high sorceress... ulternativly you could invest in another RBT, just extra things to shoot with, which can be devastating for fully armours infantry and knights ^_^

Rogue-Gladiator - July 2, 2005 02:12 AM (GMT)
Maybe I did read. Generally people aren't going to make a list for you based on what you have Joe. You have your playing style, and I have mine. I'm not going to make a list for you based on my playing style that you may not be able to run with.

Also, point values really help, because frankly, I'm not going to take the time to calculate a 3000 pt army for you. This is something I can work with.

Now, here are my opinions. Take them or leave them.

The hero selection looks pretty good. Upgrading one of the sorceress, probably the one with the wand, would be good. Alternatively, you could take the seal off the noble, give him the wand, give the HS the seal, and then another magic item. This would help distribute your magic over more characters, making it a bit harder to take out your entire magic force by only taking out one character.

Next, I have seen units of 16 spearelves being used effectively. If you need to bolster other units, you could consider taking away from the spears to get the points.

If you did, give the dark riders RXBs. Really useful.

I would still argue against 9 COK + the highborn. That unit is going to become a pincushion for all shots, and furthermore, a nice target for siege weapons. Pain. If you're worried about have at least 5 left over when you get there, I still think you can cut it down to about 7 COK+ the Highborn, deploying them in either a 4x4, 5x3, or possibly 6x2 formation. The +2 armour save, plus the fact they won't be as nice of a target to shoot at, should ensure they get there. the 5x2 formation is large, offers large flanks (which is a bad combination with stupidity), and seeing as cold ones are really best at flanking, having as little as 4 warriors left over in that unit isn't the end of the world. That's just my opinion.

6 shades? Usually they're deployed in 5. If you just had the extra one in there because he was in the blister, I would say drop him for other troops. Otherwise, if you really think 6 is a good number, go for it.

Chariots are always a nice touch. Just remember they have a Ld. of 8 still, and can go stupid pretty easily. Either keep your highborn around, or just be aware of the risks.

12 Exes are a good flanking unit.

Up your guard a bit. MSU guard have been tried before, but they work much better with they're around 15 or 20 strong so they can last more than one combat. Stubborn is a boon in an elven army, and you probably would like to use them in more than one combat, given their cost.

Thanks Rogue. Just a few things.

Sorry that was my fault. Ive not included it on their profile but i have on my points value. yep your right really useful.

Ive edited the list. Ive dropped a shade and 8 spearelves. (4 from each unit).
I went for a unit of 16BG.
I upgrade the Sorc with the wand to a high sorc. with the wand, tome of furion and heartstone of darkness.
This adds up to 3005pts.
Excellent. :D
