Title: Weekly Magic Tournament
Description: at my local hobby store

Hey, any Magic players here?

My local Rogue Trade store started up a Magic night with prizes! I havent played for years now but I thought I'd give it a shot with my old cards and share my story with you.

Week 1:

I brough a Sliver Deck hoping to devour the competition. We played single game elimination so it was all over quickly. I beat my first opponent but lost to Sean, who has an uber elf deck. It was so fast it was scary! He won the prize with that deck ( a booster of Saviors of Kamigawa)

Week 2:

I was gonna try to win the tourney with a black/red kill everything deck. The store changed the format to "lose 5 time and you're eliminated" format. I won the first two games I played and then got screwed. I alternated between having no land and all spells and all land and no spells. Shuffling was useless. Seans insane elves won again.

There was a second prize though, that would go to the winner of a BIG multiplayer game. I brought my stasis deck with me and this could be my shot at winning something!

Seven people played in this huge game. Sean was quickly targetted and his elves were killed by Benedict's Shadow/Hatred deck. Then he was killed by Wilder and Stu (both playing white).

While all this was going on I kept playing land and an enchantment or a small creature. Nothing anyone at the table would consider threatening. I was attacked twice by Dave (staff) who played a mean artifact deck but I Capsized his attackers or killed them with a disenchant.

Wilder eventually killed Dave off and it was down to Stu, Wilder and myself. Stu was going to attack me but I convinced him that I had nothing really, and so he attacked Wilder instead. Just after Stu tapped everything he had and killed Wilder off, I made my move.

STASIS! My plan was to Capsize it back to my hand at the end of Stu's turn so I'd still get to untap :D

Eventually I did get a Kismet out and I slowly beat him down with my two Phantom Warriors (unblockable) from 54 life to 6. He was absolutely screwed and forfit.

Sean made that deck (Stu was borrowing it for this game) and he counldn't believe it was losing. Beating one of his decks made my victory even sweeter!

Too bad I can't use my Stasis deck again...it's got a pretty big bullseye on it now. At least I won a booster of Saviors! I traded the rare to Stu for a Guilded Lotus so it was a good night overall.

I also bought the last two Mirrordin tourney packs the store had and got a Chrome Mox and a couple of cool white cards Raise the Alarm. I building a small white deck based on having four of those and a Soldevi digger. I'll try it next Tuesday night.

I used to be an avid magic fan and an avid tourney-goer, but after a while I realized it was pointless because they keep coming out with expansions every few months, making up new, cheesy rules, and forcing everyone to buy more cards or be destroyed by the new decks. I quit playing after mirrodin came out. I came in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and like 7th during some tournemounts and won some cool stuff. I dusted off my old cards the other day and was thinking about maybe playing once more, if I could find a casual tournement that wouldn't make my stuff look ancient and useless.

Wow, I left at mirrodin too: the previous expensions, while fun, had changed way too many rules. I don't think there was a basic rule of the game that had NOT been somehow changed in the set.

I used to go only to the prerelease tourneys, but played with friends a lot. We had a 4 way freeforall system where you could only target someone if you rolled their number on a die (20 sided die, each guy gets 5 numbers), rerolled each turn. I had great fun playing a 'suicide lifegain' deck, that included heaps of stuff that said 'deal one damage to each creature and player'. The lifegain part didn't work too well, but I was a damned efficient suicider :D (Shephards of rot rule :D )

I actually just got into Magic, because of the Champions of Kamigawa. I'm an avid martial artist and lover of the Sengoku Jidai period of Japanese history, so if it involves Samurai, I'm probably interested. I've been to maybe 2 tournaments and I was utterly smashed by a deck with Bringer of The Red Dawn, and then another one which was mostly high end black magic. I wasn't too dissapointed as I'm new and didn't expect to win.

I've also managed to drag my girlfriend in with me. In fact I bought here a new deck today, cause she asked for one for her birthday.

A couplke weeks ago I made a 20 card deck and brought it to play in the tourney. It beat everyone!

1 Humility
1 Soldevi Digger
4 Raise the Alarm
3 Orims Prayer
1 Contemplation
1 Argivian Find
1 Gerrards Battle Cry
1 Disenchant
7 plains

I would cast Humility making all creatures 1/1 with no abilities and keep craking out creatures with the Raise the Alarm. The prayers ensured I gained a life for every creature that attacks so there was no point in attacking me. The Digger ensured I stayed alive by recycling the Alarms into my library. The battle cry let me pump up my never ending supply of 1/1 tokens and I kicked a lot of butt.

The only time I lost was to a Jesters Cap that removed my digger from the game so I decked out :(

Now we have to bring minimum 40 card decks :D

I only got into MTG during Darksteel. I tracked down a booster of fallen empires though. Is this going to lead to an online tourney, cos I know a bit about playing MTG through boards, sadly the players must be honest. Which most of you at least should be.

I began playing not so long ago. Right now, I have a red and green deck and my experienced opponents already say that it's a good deck. We play at lunchtime at school (well, when there's school).
