Title: DoW test army 2
Derek101 - May 21, 2005 10:52 AM (GMT)
After the huge response from my last post (cough cough) I have deciced to do another list with a different perspective. The back ground is a huge DoW army was raided at midnight and the survivors fight on. With the captain leading the army out of the camp; most warriors grabbed a horse and the cooks (halflings) managed to escape along with some ogres who carried out the pots and pans.
Here it is, my 2,000 pt list:
Characters
1 Mercenary general- hvy armour, enchanted shield and a barded steed
1 Paymaster- hvy armour, enchanted shield, longbow
2 Hierling wizards- both level 2 and both have 2 dipel scrolls each
Core
20 pikemen- hvy armour, full command
20 pikemen- hvy armour, full command
5 light cavaliers- bows
5 light cavaliers- bows
9 heavy cavaliers- barded steeds, full command
Special
10 halflings- champion
15 Lumpin Croop's fighting cocks (that's their name :P )
20 Paymaster's body guard- full command, hvy armour, warbanner
3 ogres- light armouradditional hand weapons
Rare
2 halfling hot pots
total 1995
What do you think?

1. I ANSWERED!
2. I would buy some crossbowmen or exhange at hotpot for a cannon as you have no heavy fire power, maybe use the galloper guns as they are fast moving and would be used to break out a camp.
3. I cant really see how pikemen would fit into breaking out of a camp, they are slow moving and easily out flanked, so i would exhange them for some duelists or something like vesperro's vendetta.
4. Other than that it looks ok. :thumb:

omid that background is quite funny for what you got, like the wizards "ahhh goblins are attacking, wait there bob let me get my dispel scrolls" still looks kinda cool otherwise.
i hate pikeman personally as i think they are too good for what they are but in a DOW army list they have gotta be taken (everyone does!) so thats fine.
anyway what happened to the skaven omid  they not good enough for you lol ^_^
Derek101 - June 2, 2005 02:52 PM (GMT)
@ Snotlingz, I appreciate the fact you answered the first test army, but no-one else did, but come to think of it DoW is not a common army so I shouldn't be surprised. I have know replaced the pikemen with duellists and will post the list later on.
@ farsight, the wizards, I can see where you are coming from, but I still need a tactically sound army, and these are my finest wizards, always prepared. And at that skaven remark they are in production; I just have a small attention span when it comes to armies.

okay okay take your time with your skaven or whatever army you decide to collect, what is it skaven, DOW, high elves  which army you collecting?
anyway good luck wit whatever army you decide to collect ^_^
Derek101 - June 5, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
Skaven I am definitely collecting, and I am playing with the ideas of DoW, HE and Zombie pirate/undead.

I don't think 4 dispel scrolls are necessary. You could buy more troops and have only 1 on each.
mumba_jumba - June 6, 2005 11:01 AM (GMT)
yeah, 4 dispell scrolls is kind of... overkill.
I respect that you need cooks, but 2 units of halflings and 2 hot pots is a bit much.
If you really want power use Golg######s Mercenary Ogres, Golg###### is basically another lord, and his ogres are just great!
Darmort - June 6, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
Why have you cencered Golg######'s ogres? *scratches head*
The list; Duellists, needed. Less dispell scrolls, More Ogres.
Sultansean - June 8, 2005 02:17 AM (GMT)
and a cannon! maybee a galloper gun to fit with fluff? I'd say drop the halflings and one hot pot. Why does your paymaster have a longbow? and if you give his bodyguard the warbanner you expect them to win combats which minimizes their stubbron ability, maybee give the banner to the heavy cavaliers or one of the pike blocks? (can you?)
Derek101 - June 8, 2005 05:07 PM (GMT)
Ok, I'll edit this post soon with an updated list, so watch this space.
@ Sultansean: I'll try to add a cannon; I must have missed the stubborn ability, but I'm afraid only the unit accompianing (sp?) the paymaster can have a magic banner, and so they don't need it so that's 25 more points towards galloper guns.
@ Darmort and SNOTLINGZ: duellists are on their way!
Watch this space.
Paymaster - June 10, 2005 12:32 PM (GMT)
Its only the paymaster's bodyguard (the unit of elite halberdiers) that get a war banner, also Mumba Jumba, grow up man.
Derek101 - June 12, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
OK, update on the list.

Paymaster - June 13, 2005 09:33 AM (GMT)
drop a bodyguard and a power stone, then swap the enchanted shield for a normal shield, use the extra points for an extra duellist and a level up on the wizard with the power stone.
Derek101 - June 13, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
oh, sorry, I forgot to put they were lvl. 2 mages. My bad.

if you can give the paymaster a normal shield which is 8 pts cheaper and allows you still to recieve a +2 save in Close combat
Dark Lord Joe - June 16, 2005 06:40 PM (GMT)
well looks like you got your replies! Why do you need 25 paymasters bodyguards, seems a bit of a waste of points as 16 or 20 would be sufficient. i'd drop the power stones from the mages and split the heavy cav into two units of 6 with your remaining points.

you must understand I'm having two ranks of five on my heavy cavalry. This is the first time I have encountered cheap heavy cavalry so I decided to to go all out with them.
EDIT: Also, I want that amount on the paymasters bodyguard so they are a resonable size even when they are shot at.
Dark Lord Joe - June 21, 2005 04:17 PM (GMT)
Having a unit of 9 heavy cavalry is just as good as putting a "shoot me" sticker on their banner. There just such a big target and cannons and bolt throwers will rip them apart. With two units of 6 it allows you more flexibility AND a chance to set your army up symetrically which i know you love.
Derek101 - June 21, 2005 07:34 PM (GMT)
The symmetry pattern still works here as the cavalry are put in the centre. Shooting wise, they have a reasonable 2+ save and so will still be in tact by the time they reach the opposing lines. Does anyone want to back me up or do they agree with dark lord joe.
