Title: Nightrunners
Description: help

I have just bought a box of nightrunners and made the mistake of thinking all 20 could be equipped with slings, this really appealed to me as slings have strength 3 range 18 and fire multiple shots within a range of 9. I thought they could be a short range unit to thin out enemy ranks before they got into combat. However now I realise only 4 can be equipped with slings can I have some advise on the pros and cons of the other equipment please.

Its much appreciated.

Just because only a few models have slings that doesn't mean you can't equip the unit with slings. Your opponenent shouldn't care if you have the point value correct and a couple with slings.

I normally use throwing stars because once behind enemy lines you can get up close to the enemy fire the stars, and watch your opponent panic, desperately trying to turn around to face you without marching.

Not using my slings, I equipped a few of my slaves with slings so the option was there if i needed it.

i agree with omid as long as you have an item on your list it shouldn't matter too much what their armed with as if it did GW would not just give you four arms with slings for a 20 man unit  (but using a warlock engineer on foot as a grey seer on screaming bell is taking it too far)

ooh yeah throwing stars work well most of the time against most opponents, and two hand weapons are good for a unit trying to get a rear charge on a unit in combat (as you get +2 to combat resolution) ^_^

Thanks for your help :) I havent been in warhammer very long so forgive me for my ignorance.

I dont understand however why anyone would use throwing stars over slings as it only has range 6 for the same strength and thrown weapon doesnt seem that much of an advantage

most people use throwing stars over slings as they are throwing weapons which means they don't get any negatives for long range or moving and shooting.

slings on the other hand do, so if you have a unit with slings that moves and is shooting at long range it will be 6's to hit, and that does not even take into account if they are behind walls or if they are skirmishers etc.

so throwing stars are generally better, ooh yeah almost forgot, aren't slings 2 points more? which may not seem much but with 20 men thats 40 points more for something worse.
