Title: Clan Skryre army building
Description: What DO I get next?
Derek101 - March 19, 2005 01:32 PM (GMT)
I currently have:
1 Warlock engineer
1 Chieftain (Converted for a hand weapon/magic weapon and shield)
30 Clanrats ratling gun
30 slaves
20 nightrunners
5 Jezzails
I am currently making a unit of at least 20 strong Stormvermin and enter them for a local painting competition (Incase you cared)
I realise there are things to be bought and dropped for this army. I would like your suggestions for 1000pts and 1500pts given what I have to start with.

Have you ever considered tunneling team?
From what i know they can be good against shooty armys.
What kind of armys do you face.

I tend to play a large variety of armies. I usually play against Dark elves, Vampire counts, Orcs and Hordes of chaos. I have thought of tunnel teams but they are a lot of points and are risky, even for skaven. Also, I'm trying to stick to a Skryre theme (I apologise for forgetting to tell you) like the list in the back in the skaven book.

Skryre have a "theme" known as SAD. It's used by power gamers who have no clue what they are doing, and just want to win. It usually workd, but no one usually plays a full game you will deploy, he will shake your hand and say "you win". I doubt you will even get a "good game" that someone really means if you really go for a SAD list.
Typical SAD list:
3x20CR
3xRatRun
3xWarlock
6xJezzies
3swarms
A few NR for disruption.
I can see (hope) by your stormvermin that this is NOT your goal. If so, kudos. What would I siggest? I am a great fan of monks and Cencors. A unit of 24 monks will really boslter a line, and a unit of 12 will add punch. T4 is very nice, especially against elves and the lis thtat are hitting you on 3, or even skellies hitting you on 4, wounding on 5s. 'Sides, it's nice not haveing to take Ld checks too often. I would suggest a small unit of globed are auto wounds, on characters and knights. 4 usually do, and 9 are great (even in 2 seperate units).
My personal suggestions are avoid Jezzies in 1500, no rat ogres, giant rats are good (1-2 packs). Oh, and a Priest.... These guys can be mean :D

Ok, here is what i would add from here to a skryre list:
x5 jezzils (to start out, you might want some more latter. They are a essentinal to a skyre army)
More clanrats!!! What kind of skaven army has only one block of clanrats!?!?!
If you want strictly skyre, i would then get globiteirs (sp?) and then build on your other units. If you would like to mix in some other clans, i would get:
Plauge monks (a boxed set when they come out this may)
And some night/ gutter runners.

lucious i do not under stand where you are coming from when you say that omids list is SAD (yes i know what they are) as a typical list would have 10 Warplock jezzails, 2 WLC and 2 warlocks but omids list on the other hand is more challenging as he has variety in unit types.
anyway back to the topic, i would rcomend that you do not get lots of jezzails as most of the time they will be hitting on 5s, buy around 5 to add punch, any more would make your force a SAD one

I'm sorry, I'm relatively new to warhammer palace, and I am currently unaware of your little phrases. For instance, what is SAD? Up till the last post from my good man farsight, I assumed SAD meant sad but he said he understood what Lucius was saying.
Also, thank you farsight for supporting me against sadness but your recommendation was not that useful as I already 5 Jezzails.
Lucius, having slightly offended me with my sadness I decided to collect a more moulderesque army. I thought this best as Lustria is up and coming and so I could get the new rat ogres and giant rat plastic sets and save myself some money. However, In the quest I have joined the SAD side, as the only other real unit left for me in moulder would be swarms of which I have purchased four. In your little list of SAD Skryre you also include swarms so for that I apologise.

sorry omid that i didn't make myself clear, i can't remeber the exact meaning for "SAD" but it basically means an army that is far to hard to beat/ or a really boring army e.g. 10 jezzails, 2 WLC.
ooh yeah no need to apoligise to me bud i was just giving my bit of input, as i played with 4 jezzails at my local vets night against wood elves and only killed 3 glade riders, 1 archer the whole game (6 turns) and 1 jezzail blew up  so thats why i wouldn't recomend them.
the moulder theme sounds cool though as you can buy the new rat ogres (nice models) and new plague monks as they are in box sets, no blisters! :D
hope i helped, farsight
