I've just started, but I look around at all the other ppls models and i noticed they're always white & yellowish. can they be any other color? I was looking forward to paintin em like diablo style, blacken bones w crimison red eyes & helm. Something gothic to give a scary feel to it. But then again i don't want to make it seem like VC either...
You can paint them absolutely any colour you like and it is up to you whether they look good or not.
I'm just going mostly for the same thing as GW, bone coloured models (obviously!) with blue and gold.
If you want to give em a really ancient and decayed look then I would suggest giving your skelies a dark flesh undercoat and then another lighter brown or rotting flesh drybrush over the model, simple yet gives an interesting image :D
oh i mostly do the GW style but i have a unit of Ebonian Auxulliaries. this is partially inspired from a page of fluff in the rulebk and partially from Nubian Spearmen in MEdieval total war. I am also a bit irritated with the Euro-centric representation in the warhammer world. Anyway, wat i did is that i undercoat it with chaos black and then dry brush it with scorch brown. yep the model will look very dark. the next part is the tricky part...i will paint "warpaint" onto the skellies. this is basically streaks of bleach bone in strategic places.
an important part of the model will be the shield. i m fortunate in that i manage to get some zulu style shields from another model range. the shield is painted bestial brown with bleach bone warpaint.
in tribute to the african warriors of the past, i field the unit as skeleton spearmen with no light armor.
