I'm considering taking 3 leadbelchers in my 1000 point dwarf army. Are they worth taking?the Idea and models sound really cool, but they seem very unreliable and unlikely to hit a lot of the time.Plus they'll be taking up a rare.Should I take them?Give me your thoughts please.

3 is too many. LBs are best used in 2s. And two units are even better! 3 is too many, making misfires too likely and making them both too expensive and turning them into bigger targets. Ickle units of two is best!

Ras has hit the nail on the head there. Leadbelchers ares best used in unit of twos. Even at 3 they will not be able to take most charges and are really best used as diverters and taking out fast cavalry and skrimishers with their cannons. With only 2 you still have US6 for flank charges (high enough US to negate ranks and so on) and enough firepower to knock out any opposing disruption units etc.
Considering actually using them, it is a bit of a gamble. They can either deal out hordes of lead-balled death, or just sputter and fail to do anything. When playing with a Dwarf army they do allow you more variety and versatility through their higher movement value, but in a army which relies on it's reliable troops, perhaps a unit of Thunderers or Crossbowmen are a better choice. But nonetheless, Leadbelchers are still a viable choice and if you like the fluff and models you may as well go for it for the versatility it wil offer your army. In fact they may have increased usage in a Dwarf army where dealing with enemy disruption units is so difficult (due to Dwarf's low movement values).

Ah,I see where you are going now.a unit of 2 seems better, especially if I support it with a unit of thunderers.I plan to use them to scatter fast cavalry and other small units, because if i get them to flee and use the turn they are fleeing ot re-load,then I'll be in wth a better chance of blasting them next time.

Hi there, i'm new in this forum and i've been reading the posts in here and would like to give my opinion... I know (and for now on you guys also know) that i'm not the luckiest guy in the world in the matter of dices, but for me leadbelchers aren't the most kind unit of the army! I've made 24 shots against an infantry unit and only killed one guy, i mean... come on! And you saying that you've killed 4 chosen khorne knights i must say that the guy you were playing with isn't the most luckiest guy in dices to. those guys were saving for 2+ and you managed to kill 4? that is luck...
Now for taking them in a dwarf army, the only thing that i've got to say is that dwarfs are to proud to ask for help from anyone... at least it's how i think of them! guys stuck in those mountain chambers not needing help from anyone, but i guess that it would give them some advantage because of their speed. i kinda love the models to but hey, that doesn't mean that they like me...
My regards to all Generals!!!
