Title: FW Rhinox Cavalry - Let's play "guess the rules!"
Description: WIP Sculpts
Goblit Skullhelm - March 5, 2005 10:37 AM (GMT)
Rhinox CavHow cool is that model? I knew they were making them, but that still blows me away. I thought we could use this thread to try to guess at some rules.
Clearly it's on a chariot base, so its bound to do impact hits. My guess is D3+1 (light cavalry (3) plus ogre bull charge (1) ). The ogre itself is just an ogre bull model with resin legs and an irongut head, so I guess the Riders'll have light armour.
Stats-wise, something like this?
M6
WS4
BS0
S6
T5
W4
I2
A3
LD6
Unit size: 1-3?
Plus a regular Bull rider.
S6 seems like a lot, but the baby rhinox on the scraplauncher has S5, and this one is about twice as big.
Thoughts?

It will certainly have a combined stat line, although I would thing it would be more:
WS3, S5, T5, W4, I?, A5, LD7-8
But that would make them really very tough, really tough.
Goblit Skullhelm - March 5, 2005 11:13 AM (GMT)
Well, if they do have a combined statline, I think they'd have to have at least 5 wounds, if not 6.
Think about it. An ogre bull has three wounds alone, so you have to include those. I can't see something as big as that Rhinox only having one, so they'd have to give a total of at least five wounds IMO.

It said something along those lines in the FW newsletter, I'll go and dig it out and edit this post.
EDIT:
| QUOTE (FW Newsletter) |
Ogre Rhinox Cavalry spotted on the horizon! When I was in Chicago last summer for Games Day, Phil Kelly first mentioned to me this mad idea the GW Studio had had of Ogres charging into battle on top of great big Rhinox. When I got back here I talked to the boss and he talked to a few people over in the GW Studio. Next thing you know is that this mad idea starts to look like not being quite that mad after all. The link below shows a couple of photos of our first unfinished Rhinox. The man putting all the hard work into sculpting this beast is Daniel Cockersell, who has made many Forge World monsters for 40K and Warhammer including the Bloodthirster and brand new Chaos Dragon. The other week Phil sent us over a draft of some rules to look at. Ohmigod! I know it was just a draft and I know they need to be play-tested, but Rhinox cavalry are going to be pretty damned hard! The plan at the moment is for Daniel to make a few different Rhinox and then he’ll, well, that would be telling, wouldn’t it? I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of this exciting project in another newsletter in the near future. |

I personally prefer Scibor's model, but that's by the by. Anyway I doubt Ras has got his attacks right. 5 weapon skill 3, initiative unknown, strength 5 attacks. That is far to good. I think goblit has got it nearer. Anyway, time for my guess:
M6 WS3 BS0 S6 or 5 T5 W4 I2 A3 LD7
Unit size: 1-3

Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present:
RHINOX CAVALRY, UP FOR PRE-ORDER!They're only 26 quid, which isn't as bad as I thought they'd be. Still, I'll have to limit myself to just a couple.
*Evil grin*
Another interesting point - Phil Kelly (author of the army book) is writing the rules, so maybe they'll be official...

I am not sure I like 'em. The proportions seem off. They look like they have been stretched if you know what I mean. Having said that I may have to mount my Honcho on one :D

I tihnk if they used rasputin's rules, they'd probably be single models and not in a unit.I was rather hoping we could have the option to mount hero's and lords in them.

I'm under the impression they will have a move of 7 since the baby already moves 6, but we could compare to the stegadon with it's move of 6. T5 seams correct attacks, well shouldn't have more then the baby so definately 3, strength, hard to say 5 or 6. Surely impact hits. I would go for 1-3 per unit but only if they really work on a champion, if not, I say 1-2. Cost wise, I bet 200 including the ogre in light armor each depending if they go for str 6 or not. Wonder if they'll permit spears since they are riders.

Here are a few more pictures from different perspectives.
I think its just so awesome to see the size relation between the Rhinox and the horse on the second picture...

Oh, and a lot more interesting for this thread is this link.
Here are experimental rules, not only for Rhinox cavalry, also for other monsters, e.g. the great Chaos War Mammoth...
What do you think of the rules? It seems like some suggestions made here are actually part of the experimental rules (e.g. unit size 1-3, d3 impact hits), but then again, that isnt particularly surprising.
The War Mammoth rules are plainly awesome. S10, 12(!!) wounds, T7, numerous special attacks, 20 Chaos Marauders riding on its back...
All I can think at the moment is this:

Great Model,Great Stats :)
Demagogue16 - March 8, 2006 07:52 PM (GMT)
I saw the rules for them in one of the latest white dwarf issues, I regrettably don't remember which one, but my friend used them against my VC army and he had the rules for them in the magazine.
