Description: please rate it

Ayami the Great - February 1, 2005 03:00 AM (GMT)
Ok everyone please rate my lists, I want to make sure it's fine before I make up fluff for it, any thoughts are welcomed, ok here goes......

Tomb King
Great weapon, Golden A, Armor of Ages

Lich(Hierophant)
Cloak of dunes, plaque

Lich
Dispell scroll, H. Jar

23 spearmen
Standard, musican, banner of undying legion(tomb king goes here)

24 sword skellies
Full command

24 sword skellies
Full command

3 chariots
Standard

2 units of 6 heavy horsemen

3 units of 10 archers

2 "ballistas"(DOW cannons, didn't have enough points to put two SSC)

Everyone else said it's a solid army, what do you think, my tomb kings are roman themed, I wanna make sure the list is solid before I convert

Im not sure it seems ok but some bits are just really wonky.

6 horsemen is not nearly enough in a unit those units are just giving points away, Also seriously consider adding another lich priest, you'll really want those catapults so if it is at all possible put those in instead..

Definetly get rid of the heavy horsemen.

Prehaps you could tell me your basic strategy and I can ad more precise advice.

P.S roman themed sounds cool.

The army is a counter charge type. I advance slowly and wait for the enemy to charge me, then swarm over the enemy. The horsemen are only there to negate ranks and assist the skellie blocks. Each block of infantry has a horseman unit alongside it. the chariots are there to guard the left flank and assist the left block if need be. I played empire first and fought dwarves alot and studied them and decided this could prove effective. I was thinking of taking another priest and skinning magic items off for it.

Ok here are some things you might want to change about your list:

1. You have WAY to manny skeletons, most poeple go for 3 units tops, i take one unit of 20 with Hw-Shield and one of 20 with bows, I dont know what you had in mind with al those skellies but you could delete a lot of them, i mean you have no special choises, and those are realy good. Just Delete 2 units of Hw/Shield and get one unit of 20 with bows.
2. I see you have full command on the skeleton warriors, jujst a wste of points, just go with a standard bearer.
3. Better make those units of heavy horsemen one unit of 12 with a War Banner, works realy well.

With all the points you have saved you could get a Tomb Scorpion (maybe 2), 3 carrions, 3 ushabti and 2 SSC's. That sounds like a more balanced list. :D

I already have 30, why would I want 50?, I wanted to take as much core to hold out against the enemy, once again the horsemen are not there to break the enemy, their there to negate ranks and hold the flanks for the skellie blocks, I make them 24 strong because past experience, chaos warriors can grind up a unit of 20 pretty bad or hurt it to a point where I have to heal it alot(Which I want to do to a minimum, I want to try smiting as much as possible). I've just fought chaos and dwarves alot so I've been influenced by it, also watching a fellow TK player win a local tournament with a similar list except he took a bone giant and SSC and tomb guard.

If you wanted the horsemen as flankers why upgrade them to heavy? when a skeleton light horsemen are fast calvary

Kingphesphestus - February 3, 2005 08:17 AM (GMT)
The horsemen are seriously not worth it in such small numbers, even to negate ranks, 2 wounds and the unit can't even do that anymore.

Aand even a relativly small amount of missle fire will be able to do that.

hmmmmm.....any suggestions then?

Kingphesphestus - February 3, 2005 01:33 PM (GMT)
sure.

If you want a counter charge type army you need to force your opponent to move towards you, a casket and a catapult would do , 3 lich priests to power your cataults and archers/
3 units of 12 archers with banners. should be enough support , when get too close reform to blocks of 4 by 3 if you can.

possibly one scorpion for takeing out artillery maybe even 2.
Some ushabti and chariots for the counter charge.
The Tomb king can be set as you like, I suggest in a chariot but the choice is yours.

This is a rough outline I didn't even add up points, just a start.

dude, u can' t have a scorpion armour and armour of the ages for your tomb king, u just can't have 2 magical armours. i'd suggest that u take some TG(to add some hitting power) about 20-25, a scorpion(to take out the war machines) one, and some carrion(to also take out war machines) 4+, if u kill their crew-the machie goes. with no shooting power it's hard 2 win. than take some archers. some chariots 3. remember if u take a tomb king your skeleton warriors(one unit) can take a banner of unding legion wcich is what u want. take a huge block of skellies 40 of them(dont be afraid to take a big number) and a liche preist with them to speed them up. take 15-20 archers(if 15 put them in 1 regiment so it is easier to cast the "shooting spell" on them). a must for u is 1 to 2 SSC. that army should win u.
