Title: 2k fun list!
RasputinII - January 29, 2005 09:12 PM (GMT)
Well I finally got a copy of the Ogre book today, after having had a word copy of the rules for some months. Despite being disapointed about several things, namely only being able to take a great slauterer at 3k and Hunters/Butchers not being allowed to be your general, I have knocked the following list up (pun intended). Its lack of magic, and prence of a hunter rules it out from being truely competative, but then thats what my Druchii are for. Ogres are for Gits and Shiggles value. I must also admit it is made up of things that a I rather like, for example the thunder mace, and the harpoon gun (why can't I have a army of hunters?). Any way, the list:
The Morons from up Norf V1.0
Tyrant (HA, 2x Luck Gnoblars, 1x Sword Gnoblar, ThunderMace, Wyrdstone Necklace)
Hunter (Beast Killer, Seige Breaker, 2 Dogs [Sabertusks])
Butcher (2x Tooth Gnoblars, 2 Scrolls)
Butcher (2x Tooth Gnoblars, Scroll, Bang stick)
3 Bulls (LA, IronFists)
3 Bulls (LA, IronFists)
3 IronGuts (Warbanner + Look out Gnoblar), SM
8 Trappers
8 Trappers
3 "Yhettis"
3 "Yhettis"
Gorger
Gorger
1999pts in total
6 PD + 1 Bound spell
4 DD + 3 Scrolls
37 Modles
A quick note about modeling and fluff (I guess):
1) The Yettis are going to be bulls wrapped in fur. These are particulalry dumb Ogres who saw ogres and thought that when they grow up they would be yettis too. Wrapping themselves in fur and standing in the freezer for several hours allowed this group of idiots to gain all the attributes of Yettis, including the ability to scale cliffs <- Yeah right
2) The hunter will be modeled with some extra fur clothing, because it might get cold. He will also be ready to fire his Harpoon Gun, which will be a gobline bolt thrower, with a massive harpoon on it :D
3) I can't decide what to do with the Thunder Mace, but ideas include a cannonball with fuse on a stick and a truely huge piece of rock on a big wooden stick. :D
4) All the ogres shall be wearing fur warps and such, other wise their mommies worry about them catching a chil.
5) The gorgers, the models suck big time. As such I am thiking of having ogres with two head, and no fur clothing! The constant bickering of a ogre with two heads and their refusal to where warm cloths when they went out, lead to them being kicked out when they were young, doomed to wander around bickering, and cold - which makes them very angry!
As you can see I am taking a very light hearted approach to my Ogres :D
Cheers,
Ras

As sexy as gorgers are I would rather like 2 Giants. I like a GIant, however this means finding 199pts, which I can only seem to achive by dropping a sword Gnoblar as well as one whole unit of Yettis (Sad). Thoughts?

Looks like a solid list overall. Here are my thoughts...

You can have two sword gnoblars, but only one luck. Fix it, ya cheatin' git! :P

| Hunter (Beast Killer, Seige Breaker, 2 Dogs [Sabertusks]) |
I've actually been wondering about this one myself. I'm not sure whether you're allowed to take a harpoon crossbow and a magic weapon, because the harpoon's a mundane weapon. Then again, it is a ranged weapon so I'm not too sure. One for the FAQ, methinks.

Good. :thumb:

I'd go for more than two bull units in 2000pts, but that's just personal preference.

SM?

You could probably find a way to fit just one giant in. Maybe drop a unit of trappers and a couple of magic items?

Whoops, didn't see that one about the number of luck gnoblars. As fo the hunter, yes he can take a magic weapon as well as the crossbow.
Ok the more I read the more I like. After doing some extensive rolling and stats work, and with my engrained love for Chaos Dwarfs I decided to produce a Iron Skin tribe list, as they are mentioned in the army book as loving chaos dwarfs :D Also, I must admit that the idea of a Tyrant in obsidian armour witha massive chaos dwarf style hat as just too kool, not to mention Butchers who wrap their legs in rock so they look like they are turning to stone in an attempt to be as skilled as Chaos dwarf sorcerers can't be missed. Any hoo, list:
The Iron Skin Rhinoxs V1.0
Tyrant (HA, GW, Wyrdstone Necklace, Bull Gut, 1 luck Gnoblar)
Butcher (Scroll, Skull Mantle)
Butcher (Scroll, Bang stick)
Butcher (Hell Heart)
3 Bulls (LA, Iron Fists)
3 Iron Guts, S (Warbanner)
3 Iron Guts
3 Lead Belchers
3 Lead Belchers
2 Lead Belchers
2 Lead Belchers
1 Slave Giant
1997pts
8 PD + 1 bound Spell
5 DD + 2 Scrolls + Hell Heart
8 units!
No Gnoblars, except for that one Lucky little git :D
The army will see the Tyrant join with the bannered IGs, in an attempt to auto break on the charge with their charging US of 18! The Skull mantle Butcher will join other IG unit and the other two butchers will go where neccesary.
The Leadbelchers will pair up into tag teams consisting of a unit of 3 and their buddies a unit of two. The reason for the two units of two over one unit of 4 is simpley that I want to eb able to sppread my fire power where neccesary, or not. Basically the two units of three will open fire first, and then if they don't kill enough for my liking the units of two will fire at the same targets as their 'parent' units. The units of two also give me some more disposable fire power to remove fast cav and such :D Each tag tema will take a different flank, and when the time comes to fight, one unit will go for the flank whilst the other goes for the font. It is highly likey that the two 'parenbt units' will be joined by a butcher, to aid with both damaging units and augmenting the lead belchers when needed.
Conversion wise I am thinking of lots of extra metal plates, maybe some chaoss dwarfy style parts being introduced. Lots of black and stuff. The Tyrant will be as mentioned, made to look like a crude, and huge chaos Dwarf :D. The Butchers will look a little less like 40k Ork Pain boyz, and perhaps a little more metal/chaos dwarfy.
Overall I rather like this list. Its got good magic offense and defense, quality shooting, good punch, lots of units and tonnes of fluff.
Cheers,
Ras

I have to say, I'm not too keen on that list. I don't think the ogre "gunline" army would work without scraplaunchers, because belchers have to spend a turn doing nothing to reload. Also, a lot of the Gut Magic spells are short-ranged so you won't be able to cast them until the enemy are upon you. With the "tag-team" idea it may work though, you'll have to just test it, find out, then let me know. :thumb:
Here's a link to a chaos dwarf maneater that someone created. I thought you might like to see it.
RasputinII - January 30, 2005 03:03 PM (GMT)
Who said anything about gunlines or defensive play? They army remains offensive, highly offensive, its just it has shooting and magic to supplement the army. It falls into the "Do something in every phase" style of play.
I rather like what the Chaos Dwarf Maneater man was thinking :D Although it seems like a big chaos dwarf, where as I am after a Ogres dressed like a choas dwarf :D
