Tyranids, duh. They're great because noone knows what their true motives are, unlike the other races. They could be a thousand year old force like Necrons or Eldar, or they could be an evil force like Chaos. Noone knows for sure.

Eerhh hard choice such good armies out there(orks being one) i was either gonna go for chaos or orks but seening as ork were my first and i have so many good memorys(15 ork boyskilling 30 marines and 10 terms). And the fact they rule.

Imperial guard all the way. firepower and numbers are the way to win battles.

-Captain: Heretics!
-Other Marines: <shoots captain>
-Marine 3: Well I was reading this pamphlet that Bob gave me last week, about the Chaos Gods
-Marine 4: Whoa man! Calm down, so we dont like the Emporer, that dosent mean that we should serve the Chaos Gods!
-Marine 1: THE HELL IT DOSENT!! RAAAAAAAAAARRR!!!! <hacks marine 4 to small, bite sized pieces>
-Marine 5: So which leigion will we join? Theyre all so cool, like Iron Warriors get tanks!
-other marines: Yeah they get tanks, but emporer's children get daemonettes!
-Marine 5: mmmmmm daemonettes <begins to droole>

My 'first' proper 40k army, with so many great memories and battles it pushed them out in front of the others (Tyranids :wub: ).

AND (unusually for me) their FLUFF made me collect the army, their history is great (Sanguinius arguably one of the best fluff deaths) and the armies special characters have so much personality (sick 'ed Tycho and vampiric Mephiston B) ).

AND the Sanguinary High Priest has got to be one of the most characterful HQ choices for any army in 40k!

Lol i thought orks would of done better lol so variant so many diffrent ways so many diffrent combinations of troops and the fact that u cna scrifice an entire unit of 30 and only loose 90pts :)

I said Tau.... If I was going to play a 40k army I would choose tau, as they are just my kind of army ^_^

Tyranids for me, My very first army were the Tyranids.

There the Ultimate army for learning what to shoot and what not to, I should shall the perfect Alien as they can evole to take on any role and anything that comes in there way.

Second choice, if i may. Would be the dying race. The Eldar, aspects and strength in Guardians. Skimmers are well cool as well. Falcon anyone.

Nids r cool but orks r jsut so awesome and fun to play with. I think its the fact that u can actually blow youre won troops up and it doesnt matter how many die theres usally 5 or 6 mor eleft.
Oh and they have hte best motto.

chaos marines ! they are by far my favourite , im playing them now (my first 40k army !!!) and their awesome, they are so incredibly customizable compared to their imperial counter parts and can handle literally any situation, the models are alright to paint however the best painting models for 40k are obviously tyranids......all those chiten plates and all that body mass :wub:

i voted for IG, as it was the closest thing to a tank company, btw 5 tanks in 1000 points is nasty :) and i can fit 12 in 2000 "que evil laughter"

but seriously i spend £300 on my tanks and this 1 retarded kid always manages to beat me it's getting realy depressing :'(

I voted IG. Just the sheer amount of character you can create for your army and the many customizations avaliable make them fun. Plus, we have then numbers, the tanks, and the oh so quaint humanity of being poor dumb footsloggers wielding the weakest basic weapon out there....but at least we have heart :D

my fav army have always been the Blood Angels, since i started collecting them in 2nd ed. Somethign about there fluff and there game play makes me come back to them time and time again.

imperial guard. customization, most realistic, hordes of guys and tanks, just plain cool. tau is close 2nd.

i choose tyranids as mine as i collected them for a while before they were re- released and thought they were pretty sweet so tyranids ^_^ .

but i do have another favorite army which is white scars, who if i had enough money i would collect as there background and origins are just cool
