I thing just standing and shotting is a lame tactic. What tactics do you think are lame?

I think 40k these days are without tactics at all since you can shoot at pretty much everything. it has just come down to pickin the right targets. Warhammer fantasy battles is where it´s at :P there we can talk strategy and tactics so I´d say everything 40k has to give is pretty lame. cool models though.

^He's right, FB has WAY more strategy than 40k. The game has pretty much(or always been) become just army composition and luck. Most my battles are one just through sheer force or numbers. However, I still enjoy 40k because It takes less time to play which is good for me. Eventually when Wood Elves come out, I'll start playing FB again, but until then I'll just play 40k.

And yes, nothing is worse than fighting a stand/shoot army. It's just not fun. Especially for Tyranids.

i personally find that stand and shoot armys lose a lot when im playing them, typically due to the healthy amout of scenery i chuch onto the tabletop. manovering arround this, using cover to its fullest i normally can flank the enemy and assult sqaud some melta bombs in to deal with any tanks while the rest of my forces get some good CC in.

There are tactics in 40k, the big difference is that in fantasy the advantages of flanking are more ovious since there in the rules. While in 40k the advantages are all about messing up the other players game plan, mind and then taking his forces appart.

The game is what you make of it, if someone is being lazy and using either a one trick pony or a boring tactic simply show them the error of their ways by requcing there force to a fine grey power with your superior tactical genious.

I think 40K can employ tactics, try a cityfight game once in a while it changes your focus entirely, Fantasy is more based on movement phase then 40K once false move and you can easily be outdone by a witty opponent, 40K is more general about tactics, primarily because unlike fantasy, shooting is really effective and can (and often does) destroy entire units, the use of cover and terrain need to be studied much more in 40K as because your units arent ranked up they can move into the terrain and protect themselves from the incoming fire.

Youre right there gandalf the terain does have to be used to its full effect effect.
In 40k all the phases are jsut as important as each other whilts in fantasy the movement phase is the most importan.
A lame tactiv i have found h8 is marine palyers who take as many assault marines and terms as posible deep strike in the middle of youre troops and uses the assault marines to finish of anyhitng that the terms didnt kill.
Something about the shoot lame tactic.
Some armies (naimly tau and necrons) have to stand and shoot you because they cant fight in cloes combat. And against armies like this there are normally 2 armies that suffer badly 1 being tyranids and 2 being orks.
