Title: Should I play ogres

Prince Cal - December 13, 2004 09:54 PM (GMT)
Okay, I am looking for a new and small army which will be quick and easyish to paint. At the moment I am leaning towards a msu style ogre army as it is small and could be rather fun to play. So should I/

I reckon u should its a new army which looks pretty good and has a whole new way of fighting.
I am also thinking of getting a ogre army for 2 main reasons.
1. The models look good.
2. Harder to breka than my tomb kings.

Wow, you really have changed your mind - not that that's a bad thing. You have finally seen the light!

So, in short, yes. The models, although detailed, are actually very easy to paint because of the fat rolls! Highlighting has never been easier. ;)

Yea, they just seem easy enough. I probably would go for a army that is painted in flesh with about 7 layers from deep red to bright orange. Bases would use heavly built up gravel as well as rocks and lava.
Yes, they are hard to paint but considering, that my high elves are finished apart from the odd unit. My brets and undead are completly done and are a good size. My orcs, well I have about 1500 pts painted and have got anoth 750 pts half done and that will be the end of them.
Considering, I am not the biggest fan of ranked units and have in my collection 1 large model and that is a gaint. So with my changed views on ogre's, the thundermace and wanting a small army to use for fun and to enter painting competitions with, ogres seemed ideal.

I really think you should, especially if you like large models that are practicly unranked, and the rules are great to, the impact hits they cause are great, they all cause fear, they have slavegaints, units of organ guns, sort of scouts(hunters) yethees and a lot of other great, rare troops.

You did a lot of painting in your live and you bought a lot of models, man that's the greatest collection I ever heard of......

and besides, you already have 4 races, so why not start with a 5th one ;)

I think you should. It will be a change from your army/armies that you collect (Especially High Elves). The painting would be easy and they are a tough wall of muscle. So i say definatly.

In the end though it is your decision(sp?)

I have also had: dwarf, chaos, empire and chaos dwarf armies.
I find painting relaxes me and due to a few shocking relationships I have been really stressed and so got a hell of a lot done. I pay for it by doing a couple of armies that I have painted for people and selling the old ones.

Grrr... sounds familiar. ;) Honestly, though, I think we'll find a lot of people doing detailed bases with OK as because there are so few models, you have time to work on them.

My first ogre (complete with lava base) is done BTW, piccies soon (maybe tonight if I can get the light right).

Play them and use Hunters, a Tyrant, a bunch of Gnoblar Trappers, a Bull unit, a Scraplauncher, some yhetees, and some slave giants.

that is what I would do, but then again i dont even know if my plan would be legal.

It would be cool to have a whole army themed on icy mountains.
