Title: What shall we do?

Prince Cal - November 14, 2004 05:46 PM (GMT)
Okay, it is clear that it is dead so I surgest these things happen to change that:
1: Change the person running it.
2: Make it monthly so people have a strict deadline.
3: Make it more unified.
4: Start again from a clean slate.
5: Have monthly features so people now what o expect.
6: Have something like a topic of the month for some fun.
7: Have someone who fun and a good writer do the editorial while they go on about there views on the hobby and show pics of their units.
8: Have a set up for it. This means that we will know ho will be doing articles.
So, what do you think?

Goblit Skullhelm - November 14, 2004 05:56 PM (GMT)
To be honest, I don't really see the need for a magazine with set deadlines. I think it would work better if there was just a forum for articles, and people could post one whenever they want.

Just my two cents.

Personally I'd say it be better if it was Bi-monthy (ie every two months), gives everyone a better chance to get it all sorted and set out nice and neatly.

But the main problem is articles, there's just not enough. I'd say a dedicated team should be setup to deal with this, it's up to them to -

1 Write articles
2 Decide what member one to put in
3 Set it out, proof read and all that

Otherwise we might as well as forget it, nothings been done for a while. All I say look at the Citizen Lezy (Asur.org) or the Druchii one etc

mumba_jumba - November 14, 2004 07:11 PM (GMT)
i'd be happy to help write articles, or help in some way

just dont hav me edit, i cant spell dat good

Prince Cal - November 14, 2004 07:13 PM (GMT)
The druchii.net one is great because it has skilled people who regularly do articles and get it layed out well.
I would do a featured conversion every 2 months that is requested by each race in turn and then I would say how I painted it. We could also have a featured gallery. I think it could work but needs time and I would be willing to take it on.

Then is would become more of a chat thing than a real magazine. I'm more in favour of the Bi-monthly thing.

The_Eye - November 14, 2004 07:44 PM (GMT)
I like ulrik's idea ^_^
And I would love to go in the team to write a issue every 2 months, writing articles is so much fun ;)
I would be glad if I could help.

EDIT: And if you thought this one is dead, look at the opponent finder <_<

Goblit Skullhelm - November 14, 2004 07:59 PM (GMT)
Okay, clearly everyone's in favour of having a structured timetabled magazine, so I'd be happy to write something for it. Perhaps my first impressions of the Ogre Kingdoms army? I'm getting the army box in under a month, so I'd be able to get a head start on most people with playing some games with it.

I also think we should have a short story in there every issue - they're always good to read.

The_Eye - November 14, 2004 08:11 PM (GMT)
Also some pictures of armies would be a good idea, or was that alreay said
Battle reports.....they are great to read IMHO ;)
And every two months an article about another race, background, play syles, tactics etc.

and did somebody already thought of a good name ;)

Prince Cal - November 14, 2004 08:53 PM (GMT)
All these would work well. Goblit, your army box idea sounds great. I think we could publish things like Sir. G's painting guide and tactica's but better done than before.

King Ulrik Flamebeard - November 14, 2004 08:58 PM (GMT)
So this could work, the ideas being -

- A dedicated team to produce a new issue every two months
- they write the articles
- Member submission allowed, team chooses best one(s)

A few other thoughts

- New front cover each month or not? Who makes it?
- Who hosts it?
- Editior?
- Spell checkers, kept within the team or not?

But yeah I'm all for it, tho maybe a hidden forum for the team to discuss issues. Much better if other members get only a preview (ie told the titles of what's in it) than knowing the full details.

Prince Cal - November 14, 2004 09:04 PM (GMT)
I surgest a new front cover which someone good at art does themse;ves and then puts up onto the web.
Hosting, can be done on many places so that's not a problem.
The editor should be someone who can use the best software around and has the time.
Spell chcking should be done by the team and then handed over to chili if he is not in the team.

I suggest a cover with a picture about an article of that issue, and than a very short one-or-two-worded description of that article, in large letters.
and the rest of the articles small next to the head-article of that issue.

No idea, but I don't want to do it :P,
any voluntiers? ;)

- Editior?

same as above -_-

spellcheckers must be within the team I think -_-
maybe could I be one of them? B)

Good idea, just show them the cover I suggested a week or so before publishing

Goblit Skullhelm - November 18, 2004 05:17 PM (GMT)
Okay, so far we've got Caledorian, KU (I guess, although he didn't exactly say he wanted to), Garagrim, Mumba and myself wanting to be involved.

What's the plan? Do we wait for more volunteers or just get started? We could have a poll where the Palace members could vote for who they want to be editor. That's presuming that everyone here (other than Mumba, who said he didn't want to) would want to do it though, seeing as it's sort of the top job IMO.

BTW, what program would be used to make it? I don't even have MS Publisher at home so I wouldn't be able to do it. I don't even know what you use to make PDF files (Adobe?).

The Green Goblit :orc:

Prince Cal - November 18, 2004 05:44 PM (GMT)
I have the ability to do it and we could use adobe to do it. I would love to edit.

Tsunami - November 18, 2004 07:08 PM (GMT)
I am interested as well....it's just that I'm not a very experienced player. If thats no problem I'd happily join.

King Ulrik Flamebeard - November 18, 2004 07:09 PM (GMT)
Sure, me in. I even know where to put it, but more on that later.

KU

The_Eye - November 19, 2004 05:36 PM (GMT)
lets aim for january 1st to make the first issue, but first we have to make a good team....
any ideas?

I would love to be spel checker, it's something I'm good at.

Prince Cal - November 19, 2004 06:20 PM (GMT)
I think we all need to spell check as you in newspaper production it is read by about 9 people before it goes in and there are still mistake.
I do agree with you however about the date of the release of the first issue.

The_Eye - November 19, 2004 06:26 PM (GMT)
maybe you're right :P
however, I can do a battle report together with zacharias_the_everling, also from this board, I don't know if you know him, but is that ok?

Prince Cal - November 19, 2004 07:43 PM (GMT)
That would be fine, but we would need pics of armies, deployment and turn by turn pics, as well as the main text.

The_Eye - November 19, 2004 08:33 PM (GMT)
ok...that can be done :P

we'll do it ASAP

King Ulrik Flamebeard - November 19, 2004 08:53 PM (GMT)
Well before everyone starts to decide on what's going to be in it, maybe a team should be created to deal with it first? They should be able to create, write and come up with ideas for the mag. Maybe a running series on it, or create a scenario for special games or a small campaign pack (ala Bugman's Lament) etc

Also it'll need them to write it, communicate often, spell checkers, someone to put it all together, artists for the front cover, decide what order and where etc.

So before going for content, maybe the back bone first?

Oh and I'll put my name down for whatever, I've never created a pdf. But I may attempt a few, just to see how hard it is.

Don't forget grammaical (sp?) mistakes either, it capital letters etc All the usual stuff, though personally I'd go for Chilli on this. He has a way with words, of course that's if he has time...

KU

The_Eye - November 19, 2004 09:11 PM (GMT)
that sounds ok, but who decides who's in the team? must we make a poll?
btw I never created pdf's either, but it can't be that hard :P

Prince Cal - November 19, 2004 10:32 PM (GMT)
I can create pdf's and have such tools as in design at my disposal.
I will also put my name down for anything.

Dreg - November 19, 2004 11:39 PM (GMT)
Im willing to help in anyway possible ( but im a retarded speller).
Also on the battlereports i play an average of 10 a week so im very willing to help.
Alos im am making my own amry lists up (at thsi very moment) including brining bakc the squats ( i know a lot of older players rember them fondly).
And i am amking a sort of race themed on the predators from the movie.

Tsunami - November 20, 2004 10:49 AM (GMT)
Like stated before, I'd like to help as well. Not sure what I could do....lack of experience and all, but I'll try anything.

plasmapuff - November 27, 2004 04:07 PM (GMT)
I'm willing to help.... tactics articles perhaps?
