Title: Jousting Tournament
Description: Lend me your ears.
Luc_Arkhame - November 2, 2004 12:17 AM (GMT)
Come one come all, for within the walls of this fair city will be a jousting tournament the likes of which have never been seen. All willing and living races may attend, for during this tournament there shall be peace among us all, as our favourite champions prove themselves. Come and watch, or if you are brave and ready, enter yourself. -Poster
Rules
During each match, the competitors will take a pass at each other, they will roll a D6 and add their skill stat to it, if the result is 8 or greater they have hit their opponent. Then another D6 is rolled (even if you missed, unless both competitors missed) and added to your speed stat, the higher of the two values (between you and your opponent) counts as being the stronger hit (because you are going faster). If you hit your opponent, you then take speed and strength, adding them together, to determine damage done, your opponent then subtracts the total of thier Balance and Defence if the hit was a weak one, or half of their Balance added to their Defence if it is a strong hit. The result is damage inflicted, first one to deal ten damage wins.
Also, if you roll a six on your wounding roll, you have shattered your lance on your opponent; if originally you had missed, you now have a weak hit on your opponent; if originally you had a weak hit, it is now strong; and if you had had a strong hit to begin with then you now have an attack that ignores your opponent's balance.
Half values will not be rounded, so it is possible to do say, 2.5 damage.
Character Construction
You have 18 stat points with which to create your char based on the following stats:
Skill- determines ability to hit
Speed- helps to determine strength of hit
Strength- determines strength of hit
Balance- helps determine defence from an attack
Defence- determines defence from an attack
The only limitations are that no stat may be greater than 6, while defence may only be 3 at the most. If you are unsure of how to distribute these stats, do not submit any but simply ask for the cahracter's race's default stats.
In addition, you must choose a race, the following races are open: Bretonnian, Empire, Mortal Chaos, High Elf, Dark Elf, Orc, Saurus, Beastman.
Each race has a special ability that they can use during the battle, they are respectively:
Bretonnian- Jousting Master- Such is the Knight's skill with the lance that he may automatically make one wounding roll a 6, one use only, and must be declared before rolling to hit.
Empire- Iron Resolve- Such is the Knight's will to fight that he ignores the last 0.5 HP lost on the first attack that would defeat him (hangs on by the skin of his teeth for one more go)
Chaos- Impenetrable Defence- Such is the Knight's power that he ignores the opponent's first Lance Break, the attack instead simply counts as being weak
High Elf- Heart of the Asur- Such is the Knight's purity of heart that he may ignore one wounding hit entirely (all damage ignored), but it may not be used on an attack that would defeat him
Dark Elf- Heart of the Druchii- Such is the Knight's hatred of all other races that any to-hit roll of a 1 may be re-rolled
Orc- Savage Fury- Such is the Creature's ferocity that he may make two attacks in one pass, one use only, and must be declared before rolling to hit
Saurus- Spawning of Itzl- Such is the Creature's nature that his cold one may be spurred into double speed, one use only, and must be declared before rolling to hit.
Beastman- Strength of the Wild- Such is the Creature's uncanny strength that he may double the strength of his attack, one use only, and must be declared before rolling to hit.
The special abilities will be used during the rolling whenever they seem most advantageous, unless they happen automatically (if you would like to specify a certain point in time when the ability should be used, simply add that to your submission).
Submission
If you wish to submit a character to this battle please send it to my message box on this site, that way no character can be created to counter any others.
Also, please give a brief description of your char, so that I may know what I am typing up when it comes to creating each battle.
Once 8 characters have been entered a tier-style tournament will be undertaken, placings will be chosen at random and played out from their.

Any questions?
Vriishnak the Twisted - November 2, 2004 01:00 AM (GMT)
Okay, let me see if I've got this right.
Beginning of the pass, both knights charge. D6+skill, if it's 8+, they hit. Roll for both at once. If both miss, the pass is over.
Assuming at least one hit, both roll a second d6+speed, higher counts as a strong hit, lower as weak. If one missed, this step is only used to determine relative strength of the one who hit. So, say one character (A) hits, and character B misses. They then roll this step, knight B's total is higher, so Knight A has a weak hit, while B still counts as missing. Correct?
Then each character who scored a hit adds their speed to their their strength, then subtracts the sum of the opponent's balance and defense if they hit weak, or half balance plus defense if it was strong, with the result being total damage?
Shattered lances make sense, but do I have the rest right?
Prince Cal - November 2, 2004 06:06 PM (GMT)
I'd like to reserve a spot and please can I have the base stats for brets.
KaelTheFurious - November 2, 2004 09:04 PM (GMT)
Oh cousiny wuzoni...I'd like you to put a wood elf stat in!!! = O Otherwise I'll reserve a spot for an empire human. I'll make my own stats though, thanks.
Vriishnak the Twisted - November 2, 2004 09:17 PM (GMT)
Right, I'll be entering a Dark Elf as soon as I'm sure I understand the rules.
Luc_Arkhame - November 3, 2004 10:21 PM (GMT)
Sorry about the delay, but yes Vriishnak, you basically summed it all up right there.
Wood Elves, Undead, Deamons and Skaven do not have stat lines, because such characters would never compete in a tournament like this, Wood Elves never leave their forests, Undead and Deamons would never be welcomed (pure evil is hard to cope with) and Skaven are too cowardly.
And Caledorian, I have sent you the base stats via PM.
Prince Cal - November 3, 2004 11:14 PM (GMT)
Here's mine:
Base:
Finduril:
Skill 5
Speed 4
Strength 3
Balance 3
Defence 2+1
Special- Jousting Master
Will edit for stoy later.
Luc_Arkhame - November 3, 2004 11:29 PM (GMT)
Caledorian, you have too many points on that char, you are only given 18 points to distribute between the stats, that stat line contains 20 (with those plus ones stuck on).
Also, this is for everyone, could you please include a short description for my reference when it comes time create the story for each match.
KaelTheFurious - November 3, 2004 11:57 PM (GMT)
Ok way to contradict yourself, so Undead and Daemons are too evil to participate but Dark Elves, Chaos and Beastmen aren't? Oh. Ok.
As far as Wood Elves are concerned, they don't never leave the forest, they just need a good reason to.
Aesgareth - November 4, 2004 12:30 AM (GMT)
Daketh De'Tranion, Lordling of Nost Khourak
Dark Elven Knight
WS 5
Speed 4
Strength 3
Balance 3
Defense 3
Special Ability: Re-roll 1's to hit.
Daketh is a skilled young Druchii, whose martial prowesse is matched only by his arrogance. In battle, he treats his underlings with disdain, ignoring their suggestions in favour of whatever plan he happens to have set his mind upon. Daketh's grasp of tactics is wanting, but he usually forces his plans to work by personally killing so many foes that they lose heart and flee. He has become convinced of his invincibility, and often strides unescorted into enemy camps to challenge their commanders to duels, uncaring of any danger to which he might be exposed.
In battle, he wears a masterfully crafted suit of gold-hued plate, with a flowing black cloak. A curved, padded shield is carried almost nonchalantly from his left hand, while in his right, he carries a long, wickedly keen lance strung with black and gold streamers. He rides a savage cold one called Malshion, which is surprisingly fast for such a lumbering creature, and is rumored to have had its natural abilities enhanced by dark sorcery, though Daketh slays without mercy any who suggest such a thing.
KaelTheFurious - November 6, 2004 06:40 PM (GMT)
Brock’s Arena Character
Kael the Damned (Chaos)
Skill - 3
Speed - 6
Strength - 3
Balance - 3
Defence – 3
The moon was blue and full on the night that Kael was born, and there was much talk about Slaanesh's obvious favoring of him. Growing up he seemed to be luckier than most, being very good looking, strong and skilled. There were many warriors in his tribe that looked up to him as he got older, becoming more and more powerful. But soon their leader began to get jealous, and their leader just happened to be a Khorne Lord. All his life he had been trying to twist the potentially powerful child to Khorne, but finally after realising his failure, he decided there was only one thing to do. Kill him. Obviously Kael fought back, but to no avail, it would seem that he was killed, left for dead. But there was a problem, Slaanesh though unforgiving knew that Kael was unprepared for that battle, and thus spared him. He made him stronger, fusing his torso with a strange armour, one that protected him far better than any other would...He also got a Chaos Runesword for him...something to make him even more powerful than he once was. After years of fighting, and his reputation being spread, he came back to his village, back to where he was defeated. Upon finding the champion of Khorne, a battle ensued. This time there was much more of a fight to it, but just when the Khorne-lord seemed to be getting the upper hand, Kael broke out in a fit of rage, impaling him on the glowing sword, and then cleaving his head straight off. It was then that he began to collect his own army...to do whatever he wanted, when he wanted, if he wanted. He wasn't necesarrily evil, he just didn't follow the laws and rules of other people.
Luc_Arkhame - November 6, 2004 06:48 PM (GMT)
Ok, I have four entries so far:
Prince Caledorian's Finduril
Aesgareth's Daketh De'Tranion
KaelTheFurious's Kael the Damned
Vriishnak the Twisted's Shivven
I will probably enter one once i get a chance to think about what numbers to use, that leaves three more before I would like to start.
bretonnia_ekiz - November 6, 2004 10:14 PM (GMT)
Ok, I'll try too.
Ekiz Languille
(bretonnia)
skill: 4
speed:4
strength:3
balance:4
defense:3
Ekiz is a quite handsome guy from the fair lands of Montfort. In his younger years Ekiz fought his brothers and always won. He became known as the best duel character in his familys realm and still has never lost, will he remain undefeated or not?
His weaknesses is that he believes he is the best and the strongest but it needs to be mentioned, he has never been in a duel outside montfort. So the fact is that he is quite inexperienced.
He is abaout 27 years old and quite good looking in general.
He always ride his bretonnian warhorse, named Luisione.
Ok, please give some advices on how to improve him, I'm just a newbie :)
PS: Tell me if you need more fluff, I hadn't time to write it longer now. I will re-write it if you wish :fight:

I still need one more char, I'll leave it open for a while, but if nobody enters I'll just have to go ahead with seven and give one person a by for the first round.
AravarGaldean - November 11, 2004 08:42 PM (GMT)
here's mine:
Aravar Galdean:
Skill: 4
Speed:5
Strength:4
Balance:3
Defence:2
Special:Heart of the Asur
Aravar is an elf from the noble Tiranocian house of Galdean. Aravar is a handsome, tall elf with flowing blond hair and draped in blue and yellow robes over fine elven armor. Like ever noble from Tiranoc, Aravar was trained in the art of the chariot, and can use it to dweady skill, like any Tiranocian lords. Being a great follower of Asuryon, he interpreted his faith differently than many. He thought it very strange to ride in a chariot, but he was more intrested in the things that pulled them. He also interpreted his faith that it could be a sin to ride anything other than the holy elven horse. He became very affectionate to one horse, named Maevanis, and he has an skill with his horse that some Ellyrions even envy. He also uses a weapon that is almost outdated in Asur culture, the glaive. The glaive is a combination of a sword and a spear and a halberd that is truely deadly. It has been taught in the house of Galdean for centuries, and Aravar, even being an anomoly, is no exception to that rule.
Luc_Arkhame - November 12, 2004 05:40 PM (GMT)
Ok, so the entries are as follows:

Luc_Arkhame - November 12, 2004 06:37 PM (GMT)
Also, here are the stats of the missing characters:
Vriishnak the Twisted's
Shivven, Dark Elf Knight
Skill 5
Speed 6
Strength 4
Balance 3
Defense 0
Special Skill: Heart of the Druchii
Shivven is a reckless, destructive warrior whose only joy comes in defeating his foes. The process of becoming inured to the venom of his Cold One, which he has disdained to give a name, has led to him attacking with unbelievable recklessness, more than willing to take a hit in exchange for dealing one.
He rides to battle cloaked head to toe in muted red robes, and rumours have spread that they were once white, stained to their current shade by the blood of those he has slain. Under his robes he wears no armour, trusting in his skill to keep him alive.
Luc Arkhame's
Lieutenant Tayanna of the Gryphon Legion
Skill 4
Speed 5
Strength 1
Balance 6
Defence 2
Special Skill: Iron Resolve
This stubborn women of Kislev has always had a massive chip on her shoulder and despises anyone who assumes she is weak. She wears a gold plate sculpted to her body, carries the circular red shield of the gryphon legion and has raven black hair that reaches her shoulders.
Prince Cal - November 15, 2004 04:02 PM (GMT)
Finudirl is a brave and strong knight of the realm. His aim is to go on the quest and find the lady but as his brother who is 7 should be the one to rule in his stead his father decreed. As he dare not rebel against the will of his father he has decided to show his honour and skill by competing in many a jousting tournament.
He heraldry is that of woods to show where he hails from and he is clothed all in a amber green. He never uses a helmet and has long and following brown hair.

Congratulations to Aravar on his character's victory in the tournament, looks like Gurglush's luck just couldn't hold out.
And thank you to everyone who entered a character, this play testing has given me a slew of ideas for improvement so I thank you for your help.
