Title: Clan Eshin
Heatseeker - October 28, 2004 08:34 AM (GMT)
Hi
Will start a small clan eshin army(<1000) sometime and was wondering... Are there any "must-haves" in that list..
I have only taken a short look at the skaven codex and storm of chaos lists and it seems to me that a 500 border patrol is of no use as I figure you need at least two characters, Assasin and Eshin Sorceror, in order to use the, as it seems, incredibly funny skitterleap spell(am I wrong?). Any other must haves?

I just love the ninja-smilie

Also, if building a larger army were lord are allowed and you take a master assassin. Would you make him hidden or use him in a unit as a general to pass his leadership on to other troops?

Apart from the compulsery Night Runners who should be taken in large units. I'd take any Skirmishes to make use of the Undercover of Darkness Rule. The Unit i'd recommend is the Eshin triad 3 poisened attacks each, scouts and skirmishes perfect for taking out troublesome wizards/characters/ small skirmishing units. Apart from the points they're awesome and only take up a rare choice.
I would'nt hide the master assasin as if the unit he's hidden in flees then you lose the character. But thats just me talking

Agreed,
the Triad is a great addition to the SOC list and are perfectly designed for what they are.
The assassin has the best leadership in the army (me thinks), and it would be a shame to hide him away if he is the general and let the leadership bonuses go to waste.
The look on your opponest face when you skitterleap an assassain into direct contact with his beloved archmage/slann. Just make sure you get off the spell though...

How you gonna skitterleap into a Slann? :D
Just what has been said. Lots of NR, lots of poison, and a Traid :)
I would actually hide the assasin, since they are unlikely to need his LD before a combat situation, and this way it keeps your opponent guessing, which is always a HUGE plus :D

If your thinking of an Eshin list take at least two eshin sorcerers so you can have one close to you skitterleaped lord/hero to transport him in case of any emergency. good luck. <_<

Assassin leadership is good, but I don't think any other unit, including the one he's in, can use it. It's that way with Dark Elf assassins, and I thought it was the same here. Plus, I'm sure they can't be the general.
Oh, and Heatseeker, no double posting. Use the "Edit" button on the post to add extra comments.

According to the rules for an Eshin army, every unit of NR and GR can une his Ld if withing 12" and assassin is not hiding. This is a spcail rule that applies to master assassin only.
It's a back-of-the-book army Drauthnir :D

I also would hide the master assassin because of a little thing called no armor!
I cant remmeber do the eshin triads have the skrimish rule.

nakai, why would you hide an assain all you need to do is put him in a big unit of clanrats and he's safe, also triads must be a skirmish unit ( a rank and file unit of 3 men?)

Yeah your right sorry for voicing my opinion

Clanrats are a ranked unit, if I'm not mistaken... So the advantage of 'Under the Cover of Darkness' is lost. This list is one I'm considering, but I'm planning on how to take on VC and Bretts. Tomb Kings are easy, they aren't very magic defensive, and allows you to 'leap' your Master into that special priest of theirs that holds up the army. VCs are moderately simple, take out the magic users and eventually their army fails. But some of the Blood Lines allow combat characters to be wizards. Bretts however are a different story. Heavy Calvary. And the Eshin Clan have trouble with heavy armor, besides the Master. Again, like the list calls for, enemy characters are grand opportunities for points, as you get another 100 for just taking the character out. Also those snipering dudes of Skaven seem pretty nice, but I don't dig it. You limit ranges with 'darkness', and so forth limit yourself with those guns, and allow more time for the enemy to close in. Tute!

A good thing for taking a brett army on (I would have thought) would be a brass orb. Just give it to a eshin sorceror, teleport him about 5/6 inches behind them, chuck the orb at them and block them marching next turn. Although, it is a lot of points for something that could easily go wrong(brass orb being 50pts and one use). That's why I like doing it with warlocks with death globes and a tenebrous cloak but that's for another time....
The jezzails are a bit of a hit and miss, under darkness etc they will only get a few turns shooting (one turn firing, one stand and shoot! ^_^ ) as they always seem to be targeted. You could go for 5/6 for a lot of -4 shots or 3/4 for the odd pot shot so you can fit some furry ninjas in.
I have seen a fellow skaven player play an eshin army with great success but could never get my head around how he broke large units with skirmishers not negating ranks and all. I personally wouldn't recommend a night runner unit over 13 (lucky number) as when you get to 20 manoueverability and cheap small annoying units just fly out of the window.
Good luck with playing them if you do, they always have looked fun to play and watch your opponent crumble with frustration :D .

Also good luck with finding an opponent as of course eshin are dead hard but they are one of the most annoying armies to play against, thast from expericance of playing skaven verses skaven ^_^
still triads are powerful when used correctly :ph43r: :fight:
