Title: Your choice!

Maelduin ab Sardis - August 9, 2004 05:43 PM (GMT)
Ok folks, I'm quite willing to write another tactics article, but this time I've decided to let you all choose what it will be about. So, send in sugggestions (with an explanation why, or I won't even consider it), and I'll pick the best one.

No army-specifics please!

killicus_maximus - August 9, 2004 09:07 PM (GMT)
how 'bout siege?

Maelduin ab Sardis - August 9, 2004 10:37 PM (GMT)
Sigh.. Explain why please. And in response to siege:

1) I haven't played many sieges, so I won't be able of giving much advice.

2) Few people play sieges, so it's not quite general enough to interest enough people.

This looks fun.

How about an all-cav tacita?

Reasons:
1 - You play a decent amount of all cav.
2 - So do alot of others, but some need guidance as to how to do it
3 - Cav armies need to hit hard and not get bogged down, tell us how to..
4 - I'm pretty sure you'd have immense fun doing it and could relate to it big time

You could add things like, "a cav army is the best place to use ........ " and talk about extras like dragons, eagles that work really well in cav armies. What to take and what not to take. "Should I take slow chariots in my all cav?" "Whats the deal with Xarhain and that rabbit business?" (sorry ^_^ )

I would be interested in the use of skirmishing troops and how to use them effectively to slow down the advance of a horde army like O&G or Chaos without getting them slaughtered. Also what do you do if you have a real lack of skirmishing troops or flyers to do the same roll as armies that have. For example, getting a goblin fanatic to release.

This could work out, but I'd like to know if non High Elf players would enjoy this; I have no idea of how many people play all-cav.

Anyway, an article on cavalry could definitely be interesting, so I'll certainly be keeping this suggestion in mind.

This mainly concerns disruption, and the two previous articles alreay talked about that. I don' think I could add much more without cut-and-pasting my own articles ;) .

You curse yourself for not being smarter during army selection ^_^ . Seriously though, can you name one army that doesn't have acces to expendable troops for loony-duty?

Dwarfs

Sure we have Rangers or Gyrocopters, but these cost upwards of 140 points, so can't really be regarded as expendable. They are just about the only option though...

Don't really think we need a tactica article entitled 'What can Dwarfs do about fanatics?'

I say go with the cavalry one. It could be useful for Chaos and Bretonnian generals as well as Elves. I have fought against cavalry armies on several occassions, and never lost. So I guess some people really aren't using them well enough, or that Dwarfs are very well suited to dealing with them....

How about doing monster mounts?

A few people I know use Griffons and Dragons etc.. I think it would also be fun.

There was an article on flyers, including flying monsters, in issue 2, so that's already been covered. ;)

I really think the cav thing would do well. if not all cav, just how to use cav. Info on units sizes, tactics, characters to use with them... etc.

Ross - September 4, 2004 03:07 PM (GMT)
how about a tactica on each chaos god or each skaven clan.

Swedishviking - September 4, 2004 03:24 PM (GMT)
I'd say the all-cav army article would be interesting if there was a section called: Dealingg with All-Cav armies.

plasmapuff - September 13, 2004 10:25 AM (GMT)
What about your perceived opinions about the role of heroes in armies?

FOr example:
1) What type of heroes to choose- lord or no lord? Fighter or Mage? MAx out ot Simple? and the advantages and disadvantages of this

2) How to get the best out of them..... ie placement during deployment for leadership, getting your roles right

3)Debate on whether they are worth their points or not.. eg the 435 VC Lords running around, Druchii annointeds etc...

4) The best combos for different armies and how to deal with them....

I think these kinds of issues could be valuable as I dont know about you, but I feel herohammer is slowly but surely creeping back into 6th edition.

Haldir - September 13, 2004 07:49 PM (GMT)
I think the All cav army and the Hero article would be very interseting. But I think that a Hero only can be made, produced and armed by yourself, because every hero is used different for different situations. A defending prince must be armed otherwise than a attacking prince....

But then again: both articles would be very intresting  :thumb: :fight:

Maelduin ab Sardis - September 14, 2004 08:45 AM (GMT)
I'll take it into consideration plasmapuff, and itdoesn't make it to this article I'll write that next. Right now though, I'm having a bunch of exams, so the writign has been postponed a bit I'm afraid

Funky the Elf - October 11, 2004 02:17 PM (GMT)
I like Plasmapuffs Hero idea.

The problems I see with a cav tactica is that

- some armies dont have any cav or their cav units are only marginal additions to the army

- I think that cavalry tactics are rather shallow compared to other tactical aspects. Saying it in a simplified way, its mainly just advancing forward, getting the charge and breaking the enemy as fast as possible.
Ok, of course there is more to a good cav tactic than that. But I think that other aspects (infantry tactics, disruption tactics, hero tactics etc.) are more complex and deserve more attention.

Could also be very cool to write about
