Title: Some doubts about starting LOTR

asuryanman - May 13, 2004 05:13 PM (GMT)
Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of J.R.R Tolkiens work and that I think the movies are a huge disregard for the book, the movies barely followed the book and changed things around (Arwen isn't the one who saved Frodo at the Ford of Bruinen!). I will admit I only saw the first one and never saw the others cause I hated the first one.

Anyway I was thinking of starting an army for LOTR but it seems to based on the movies not the book. Maybe I shouldn't care but what do you guys think about that.

Elven_Warrior - May 14, 2004 05:59 AM (GMT)
well first of all alot of movies dont follow the course of the book

(2) this isnt a discussion about the book

(3) to answer your question it is realistic in terms of points stats and all that id suggest you did its the simplest warhammer game its fun but id suggest you didnt because you had to have a winge and a little cry on a website go to one about the book and when you did get it you would winge and cry some more so you shouldnt

Rob - May 14, 2004 06:08 AM (GMT)
Elven Warrior! He just commented on what he thought about the movies and the book If you cant comment about Lord of the Rings book/movies in this category here where can you? You are seriously not a very nice person!

Asuryanman I quite agree but the reason it started was because of the publicity from the film and I think alot more people saw the film than read the book so it was better for them to base it on the film.

Elven_Warrior - May 14, 2004 06:15 AM (GMT)
rob i seriously dont like you number

(1) this is WARHAMMER PALACE not BOOK PALACE you cant have a sook and winge here go to another site oh and rob stop annoying me like that you will get the tombguard mad and tombguards arnt nice

Rob - May 14, 2004 06:18 AM (GMT)
Me annoying you! Your flaming all the time! Im making an official complaint to the moderators about you I'm fed up. All you ever do is cause trouble. And if you hadnt noticed this is in the "other" section. And neither me nor asuryanman were winging just commenting on the relation between the game the film and the book.

Elven_Warrior - May 14, 2004 06:20 AM (GMT)
dude complain its not a book site okay you shouldnt have braught it up like i care i flamed you one time i apolagised thats it now you went agro on me i say we could both get banned

Rob - May 14, 2004 06:25 AM (GMT)
Me banned? Its not a lord of the rings site either but people talk about it. Just get with the idea of having a nice discussion rather than flaming everyone!

Elven_Warrior - May 14, 2004 06:26 AM (GMT)
i didnt flame you lotr is apart of warhammer its got models why am i talking to you you just dont understand

Rob - May 14, 2004 06:32 AM (GMT)
It's you who doesnt understand. Maybe this is the first forum you've used or something but Let me explain how a forum works. A forum is there so people with similar interests can express their opinion and have detailed discussions. No opinion should be shunned like you just did to asuryanman. He made a valid point about something that relates to the game. Because it relates to the game therefore he can talk about it in this section. And I'm sure he hoped for a detailed discussion with other people but you came in flaming him telling him hes a winging cry baby whos posted in the wrong place. You should show respect to other peoples opinions!

Note : Alot of things have models!

Elven_Warrior - May 14, 2004 06:58 AM (GMT)
note its a book this is lotr he WAS having a cry about it he shouldve said it didnt go hand to hand with the book but did he no he had a winge and you theyre all high and mighty not all of us read the book this is warhammer its not relater to the book because its a game a book is a book even if it is based on warhammer lotr

Dark Lord Jim - May 14, 2004 12:25 PM (GMT)
Right, thats enough you two. Elven Warrior: asuyanman is perfectly within his rights to express his opinion on the dissimilarities between the film and the book. This is the Lord of the Rings section of the site, and so it is within reason to post such a thread here. Leave what can and can't be posted to the moderators.

Rob: For future reference, if you wish to discuss a member's conduct with that member, please do so by PM to avoid hijacking a thread with a flame war.

Cheers,

Hmmm... I think Asuryanman deserves to have his discussion continued.

My opinion - the films don't follow the books to a tee, but they do a pretty good job - Arwen's the only major deviation, and I think they did that because they wanted to avoid too much of an army of characters to keep track of. It's simpler by putting one character to fulfil the role of another, minor one.

You should definitely watch the second and third movies! The battle secnes are fantastic - the first film had a lot of work to do in setting the scene and putting down foundations for the plot, and they had to squeeze a lot into it, accounting for the greatest lot deviation.

And in my opinion, the films are better. A lot (about 45%) of the original text is rather heavy and uninspired.

I have had enough of this. Elven warrior either accept that this is a mainly warhammer baced palace or go to thelastalliance.com a high elven site.
Rob: I can understant your annoyance but no need to get heated. Elven warrior: Please stop flaming. You are really not helping this discussion.
Now that is over my views:
I love the books and prefer them to the films. The 1st is best out of the filmsas for violence KillBill and The Matrix are for you.

Rob - May 14, 2004 03:07 PM (GMT)
Ok sorry DLJ

The book can be boring and uneventful at times and the movie certainly isn't at any point but I think they're both about equal. It depends if you like to read aswell I guess. I agree with Chili the battle scenes are amazing. I cant imagine the number of extras they had to hire to do them!

Prince I disagree I think the last one is the best film! Far more action and as chili said the first was more about scene setting.

SirGiles - May 14, 2004 07:56 PM (GMT)
Remember guys ... once the original movies start to get stale there is always the extended versions with about an extra hour each!!! Some additional background info which is great and missing book items ... eg ... second movie extend version has a whole scene of Merry and Pip drinking from teh Ent sping and growing.

Moonshadow - May 14, 2004 09:09 PM (GMT)
I was this close to closing this thread. *Pinches fingers* Don't let it happen again.

I agree that the films are better. The books, while they may be classics, are quite boring. Too many words to describe the simplest of things, in my opinion. The movies were great, though I've seen far better epic battle scenes, the best being in The Last Samurai I think (though I'm going to see Troy in a couple hours... :D )

LordChilipepa - May 14, 2004 09:27 PM (GMT)
Caledorian: Actually, when I said battle scenes I wasn't referring to the violence, but more to the massive, epic scale of the charges, the great speeches, the brilliant musical score, the sheer mind-boggling glory of it all...

Rob: You know they didn't actually use extras for most of the battle shots? They had a program called MASSIVE, which stands for something - basically, whenever you can see an inordinate number of warriors, that's MASSIVE kicking in.

Okay my mistake. I have seen kill biil 2 and it is so good. Better than the 1st. I am going to see troy tommorrow. I have to say I do like huge battle scenes.

mumba_jumba - May 16, 2004 12:25 AM (GMT)
then see BRAVEHEART, although when they're not fighting (a lot of the movie) its realy boring.

Moonshadow, i do agree with you about the book, its is quite tidious, but for the movie to have any fans they had to give it a "makeover" to make it more audiance friendly.
