Title: The Melting Pot
Description: RPG discussion
LordChilipepa - May 12, 2004 03:58 PM (GMT)
This sticky thread is for the pooling ideas in order to raise the standard of RPs on this board. Post an idea for your character or RPG system to get feedback - is it well-written? Do the rules work? Is there enough interest? Also, please post any ideas you have for the betterment of the RP section, or any comments you have on what was good/bad in previous RPs so that GMs can learn. Maybe you're considering starting an RP but would like advice...anything like that. Just don't spam, for if you do you may have noticed what's happening to the little skaven dude in my sig... I can really do that :)
XXXJaKZXXX - May 13, 2004 05:11 AM (GMT)
Before you can try and raise the standards of RPG's on this board, you are going to have to raise the number of active RPG's and participants.
Other than SCOM, this board is pretty much dead. The Druchii RPG was going well until RasputinII got banned. I am not saying that he shouldn't have been banned, but that maybe someone should step-up to maybe continue the RPG.
I know that I am just really complaining here and people are going to say, why don't you start an RPG if you are so concerned about the board dead literally dead? Well, the answer is, that I don't really know how to run an RPG and I don't have a rules system to base it off.
Maybe a topic should be put in the Warhammer general section, for people to advertise their RPG's in one big post so we would get more members even knowing about new RPG's.
Tombguard321 - May 13, 2004 04:04 PM (GMT)
I have a Idea for a Rpg.
The curse of the Jade amulet.
In the lands of the borders princes, one of the mechant princes lies sickened in his own bed. grasping for air, as his hand falls down to the marble floor, a slight noise is heard, lying on the floor appears to be an amulet, cracked and a foul varpour is bellowing out of it.
Months follow as the villagers and guards collaypse sicken by the same plague that had killed the Mechant prince, the nearby prince declare that part of the city as out of bounds. which in this case, no one has dared to go against their word. except after one night. Howls and screams are heard from the city as the villagers and guards get up on their feet and stumble towards the nearest town, many thought this to be the works of a necromancer but this is untrue as each night the people are cut down but reanimate the next again night
One of the mechant princes, by the name, of Prince Kel'thazor.
hires a party of six, he never cared about what race they were but only cared that they investigate the city and find out what started it and stop it from happening
This rpg follows the idea that a mechant, is hiring 6 mercaneries
<this rpg allows any race, as long as their not undead that's fine>

I am willing to participate, but am new to this, so if you could explain it all to me I'd be gratefull.
Name: T'kal
Race: Elf (High)
Age: 150 (is that 20 in human years?)
Gender: Male
Background: Not much is known of T'kal for he only speaks when it is necessary. Nor does he speak freely about his past and nobody is foolish enough to pry. His only possessions which might hint his past are his grey elven cape that seems to blend in to the shadows, an enourmous double-handed sword that he strangely enough never uses and, his weapon of choice, a finely crafted longbow. Over the years T'kal has made fame as a mercenary finding many a foe on his way. To an outsider it may seem as if T'kal is fleeing from something, as he is constant on the move. But the select few that he trusts find that T'kal is trying to make himself worthy but the reason remains unknown.
Appearance: T'kal stands a 6'4" high and is, like all elves, somewhat frail. He weights 130 lbs. He always wears his elven cape with the hood up. Making him appear like a hooded figure with a nokked bow and a greatsword upon his back. His brown hear and elven ears are carefull hidden so that he can go unnoticed as an elf when the situation calls upon certain measured.
LordChilipepa - May 13, 2004 05:27 PM (GMT)
Just to say - this thread isn't for posting characters, unless you want feedback on the idea. In this case, you should just be indicating your interest in participating.
Tombguard321 - May 13, 2004 07:03 PM (GMT)
Chilli maybe we should incorparate Druchii idea here, with a sticky for people to post their characters and anyone willing to start a rpg should pm them asking them if they want to join? How does this sound.
Other than that I was hoping to see what people thought about the idea and how I should stretch it.
Maybe a pm conversation with chilli is in much need.
Swedishviking - May 13, 2004 07:08 PM (GMT)
I'd be more than happy to join that RPG you've got in mind if allowed...
LordChilipepa - May 13, 2004 07:24 PM (GMT)
Why PMs? The kind of thing you seem to be looking for is exactly suited for this thread - I didn't have time to post my opinions earlier, having to do revision, but will now.
Firstly: I'd recommend a bit more character limitation. Lizardmen, openly Chaotic and Skaven characters can get a bit... ridiculous.
The starting plotline seems good - I'm not sure about the re-animated, cut down again thing though, could you tell me where I'm being an idiot in not understanding it? Why does this indicate it's not necromancy? What's the point of it?
Other than that, all I'd say is that the RPG should be good, so long as you can get a solid rules set behind it. A tip, if it goes off - type long posts in Word and spell-check 'em, that's what I do if I have time. It works wonders for the quality of the RP.
The Druchii RPG - What does everyone think should be done with that? IMHO it should just be deleted, as without Rasputin it cannot continue (I mean, he understood what was going on, what was going to happen in the future - it's impossible for a new GM to take over), but I think that my opinion is probably less important than those of the players involved. After all, someone could hijack the storyline.
On the sticky character post idea - I don't know if that would work. Different RPs have different power and race limitations, and I much prefer the idea of different chars for each RP. However, again, that's my opinion - what does everyone else think?
A final idea - do you think it would be a good idea to try and 'recruit' GMs, and turn the RPs into a hemi-demi-semi official thing? As in trying to get a few RPs going at all times, instead of just having people do them whenever they feel like it. I've seen a few people who might be prime GM material.
Tombguard321 - May 13, 2004 07:45 PM (GMT)
It all because of the Jade amulet they amulet, which was cracked emitted a foul gas which cursed and killed the villagers an because of this the amulet will not let them rest, with each night the dead will howl in agony of not being able to rest in peace that is why (i cannot give out to much information)
Also I know am not GM equipment but i will give it a try.
Rogue-Gladiator - May 13, 2004 08:08 PM (GMT)
With the druchii RPG- if Rasputin ain't comin' back, then it's toast as far as I'm concerned.
Vriishnak the Twisted - May 13, 2004 08:28 PM (GMT)
By his own words, he won't be back. I'd be willing to try running it from here, but I have a lot of stuff going on now, and I don't think I can make the commitment. I don't want to start it up again just to let everyone down.

Oh right...sry bout that then....I really have to stop skimming through posts ;) ...Anyways consider myself indicating my interest in participating. But I'd like the feedback cause I'm and stuff...

I'm sure it won't be me though
Sorry for being curious :P
LordChilipepa - May 14, 2004 07:11 PM (GMT)
Hmmm... well, it can't do any harm, and even if no-one approves this recruitment drive idea it might prompt a few of 'em into doing RPs, so I'll say it.
Lucius has a talent at writing and even greater talent at plot construction, plus he's pretty active.
Xarhain has skill with developing written characters, and can manage dialogue well - again, he also seems active and capable of forming a good plot.
Vriishnak, although sometimes busy, is of course a very good writer and a very dedicated and dutiful member of the boards, who I can't see letting an RPG die in any but the direst circumstances.
Finally, Rogue-Gladiator has a great talent with the interaction of characters and with the language itself, especially with very detailed descriptive prose.
Vriishnak the Twisted - May 14, 2004 07:33 PM (GMT)
Actually, now that you mention it, I've been vaguely considering trying my hand at an RPG for a while now. I've got a rough idea for a plot I'd like to run, and I'm sure I could find at least a bit of time each day to check up on progress and keep it moving along...
I'm going to see if I can finish the story I've been putting off for so long, then see how I feel about trying to set up some rules for playing that I'd be comfortable with. Expect to see an update from me on my final decision sometime in the next day or two.
LordChilipepa - May 14, 2004 07:40 PM (GMT)
That sounds great! I might even drop my resolution of 'no more commitments until exams are over' to participate... glad to see the post has already had an effect - good question, Swedish Viking!
Rogue-Gladiator - May 14, 2004 08:36 PM (GMT)
I appreciate the compliment, Chilli, but I think I'll get through my first RPG before I try hosting any. Afterwards, I may give it a shot, who knows?
Prince Cal - May 14, 2004 09:09 PM (GMT)
I am wprking on my entry to tg rpg. I have run a lot on other forums, but I have got exams and a lot of sport to do at the moment. The druchii rpg should be deleted.
Vriishnak the Twisted - May 15, 2004 01:06 AM (GMT)
Okay, story is complete. Anybody interested in joining an RPG run by me should give it a read, as it will be forming a large part of the background of my plot.
I'm probably looking for 5-6 characters, good-aligned, to be hired to venture into Sylvania to find out what happened to Gunter and his patrol. Primarily human is best, obviously, though I'm willing to accept anything that can be explained.
Don't bother giving me full characters yet, as I'm not sure about a ruleset or anything, but if you want feedback on whether you fit what I'm looking for, post your outline here.
LordChilipepa - May 15, 2004 06:51 AM (GMT)
I'm in!
However, can I just say - it may be better if players don't give the story a read, as knowing what happened is probably a bit of a spoiler for the first part of the RPG.
Prince Cal - May 15, 2004 07:16 AM (GMT)
I have to join this one. I do agree with chili, but I also think that like in tg's one we should have a run up to it.
Tombguard321 - May 15, 2004 07:22 AM (GMT)
I would join but I'm not the best for rpging, considering what other members can do, always the best writer will always get in.
However a lead up is always great and even better if there are twists
Benedictus - May 15, 2004 08:49 AM (GMT)
Hell, I'll be in Vriishnak, if you'll have me. My writing's been a little off lately (as I'm sure Chili's noticed, heh), as I'm out of practice (not much MUDing lately, and my brain is decaying from too much computering) but I'm sure I can contribute.
Just for fun, I'll roll up my character's career randomly using the Warhammer Role-play stuff. :P
F’lar of the Shadowborn - May 15, 2004 10:09 AM (GMT)
Count me in Vriishnak (if you'll have me). Just know that I'm new to this so you'll have to guide me thru the character making.
Vriishnak the Twisted - May 15, 2004 04:27 PM (GMT)
I considered the idea of having the events of the story be hidden and revealed gradually, but I think I prefer it this way. As long as none of the characters start talking about the events as if they were there, I think we'll be fine. ;)
I'm thinking about how I want the rules to work now, so I'll post with an update once I've figured something out.
LordChilipepa - May 15, 2004 04:32 PM (GMT)
If you want some good systems to plagiarise (as I have done :)) I would point you in the direction of firstly WH Quest, for its overall approach to how the game should play, and secondly Inquisitor for its combat mechanism.
Swedishviking - May 16, 2004 08:13 AM (GMT)
I could join, if you're not full ..
Sha Moke - June 6, 2004 07:46 PM (GMT)
I've DMed some stuff on other boards but never had quite the dedicated group as what appears to be here. I think if I get to play a few RPGs here to get a better feel of this place I might be able to run something. Granted pretty much none of you know me or what I'm like when it comes to roleplaying etc. so we shall see.
Benedictus - June 17, 2004 05:40 AM (GMT)
Just an idea: Perhaps whoever is running an RPG session could be made a mod for the duration of their session, so they can edit posts and stuff if need be. Just a thought.
I know it may cause some problems, but I'm sure that LordChilipepa is a responsible enough 'head RPG mod' to ensure that things'd go smooth-like.
Prince Cal - June 27, 2004 08:39 PM (GMT)
An idea. I might do an rpg where you have a band of dwarfs going to find their way to their throng but cannot get there and hence must find there way to the empire, to fight in the storm of chaos.
Anyone wanting to join in can you pm me.
Archaon, Lord of End Times - July 5, 2004 12:08 AM (GMT)
I was thinking of using the Legend of The Five Rings rule set to do an RPG surrounding a Great Unclean One. I was reading through the monster sets they have in the back of the book and found Oni NoTsuburu to be rather similair to the Greater Daemon..They're fat, ugly, disease ridden, created by the "Lord of Gluttony". Only difference is they're so fat they teleport..But I might change that. I'd need a short story detailing the backround of the character and I could figure out the statitics for them, or they could if they have the L5R book..I'd probably give 45 points to customize since they'd be fighting an oni at the end. Anyone be interested?
LordChilipepa - July 5, 2004 09:02 AM (GMT)
Sounds quite interesting, but I've never heard of the 'Five Rings' and I doubt many others have either. Could you please give us a brief outline of the system?
Archaon, Lord of End Times - July 5, 2004 08:19 PM (GMT)
Well, the system is based on TN's or Target Numbers. The player declares what his action is, and the GM decides a target number, depending on difficulty( 5 being easy, 15 normal, 40 Never done again) on increments of 5's. The Player then rolls the number of dice Equal to the corresponding trait( strength, perception, reflexes, agility, awareness, stamina, Empathy, and willpower) + his skill in the corresponding action( archery, persuasion yada yada). He discards the number of dice equal to the skill, keeping the number equal to the trait( 3 strength +2 Tetsubo[Big mace], keeps 3). If he rolls over the target number he succeeds. You can also seek to make the action more spectacular by voluntarily raising the TN by increments of 5( 1 raise hit torso, 2 raise hit any arm or leg, strike without drawing large amount of blood, 3 raise disarming, striking neck, head, hands, 4 raises trim their mustache). You also have to be part of a clan, family, and school. Each Clan has 3 family's and 2 schools( Bushi[warrior] or shugenja[magic/priest]). You get a bonus point to a trait depending on your family and school. I'll be deciding what clan/family/school you're in depending on your introduction story, trying to fit your characters needs. The game is based in a pseudo-fuedal Japan, but I'll change things like names of weapons and such to fit Warhammer. And the clan/family/schools will be fit into your backround, without being a clan/family, seeing as how the warhammer world is divided into races and the like. That was a long intro, and there's more, but I can usually handle the complicated stuff while you guy roleplay. I don't have a story yet, but I'll be thinking one up in the next few days/week. I need to know if you guys want to or not before I start.
Prince Cal - July 5, 2004 08:23 PM (GMT)
I would love to be in it but am away for ages as it is the summer hols soon.
Sha Moke - July 6, 2004 08:09 AM (GMT)
well if everyone was the same race you could keep clans and families, especially with Dwarves couldn't you? Although if you wanted to have it not just dwarves then perhaps changes would be needed. Since really you can make enemies however you want as a GM/DM anyways and only justify what you feel you needs to be justified; then an all dwarf party could be made without too much change since you only need special enemies and our characters to have histories generally. (and you don't even have to work on our backgrounds :D:P)
Kingphesphestus - July 6, 2004 08:49 AM (GMT)
I'll be in if you'll have me, tell us when you would like the stories and intros done by and anything else important of course :thumb:
LordChilipepa - July 6, 2004 04:51 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'll participate. Are the clan whatsamadoodahs necessary, or an extra of character customization (i.e. could you just strip them out and make your own instead)?
gorod - July 6, 2004 05:08 PM (GMT)
could I be in this too? I don't have lots of fluff experience and what I do isn't fantastic compared to what some ppl here have done *cough points at chili* but I'd like to be in if you'll have me :D

one thing I don't understand, so we have the number of dice to roll equal to our trait.

then we discard dice equal to our skill? Don't we want more dice to make the chance of getting over the TN higher?....Or am I more confused then normal... please explain
Archaon, Lord of End Times - July 6, 2004 08:25 PM (GMT)
Clarifications on several things are here!
The clan is needed to know which family/school you're in. Different families add a point to certain traits depending on their backround, and the school also adds a point to a trait, due to it's fighting style( the Crab clan school often uses blunt weapons, relying on brute strength to bludgeon their foes into a stupor, so they give a +1 to strength). Each school also has 5 Ranks, which when you reach a knew rank, your sensei teaches you a new technique. Seeing as how we don't have sensei's in warhammer I may have you pick it up from comrade NPC doing something fancy, or you may have an epiphany, that is somethign we'll decide later. The book also says the GM should customize the rules as he likes, or just throw them out the window. So I'll be changing things as need be.
Now to the semi-confusing dice system. You guys mostly won't have to worry about it, but just so you have an ideao n how I'm doing it, I'll explain! The character declares an action say, stabbing a Norse-Man in the eye with a stick. Thats a rather precise move so I'll be setting the TN in the hard areas..About 30. He'll be using agility as it is a move of precision as his trait, and say..Rapier as the skill, as he is thrusting as if the stick were a rapier. He has an Agility of 4(rather high for beginning characters) and a rapier skill of 3(pretty darn high for beginner) He rolls seven dice, Agility + Rapier( 4+3), and keeps the highest 4(Agility). We use 10 sided die, and if your roll a 10( which happens to be a 0..But whatever, ignore that) you re-roll the die and add the results together, and you can keep rerolling if you keep rolling 10s(0s). So you roll a 5, 3, 8, 2, 0, 8, 9.You'd want to keep the 4 highest which are the 8, 8, 9, and 10. You reroll the ten, rolling a 5, so the 10 is in fact 15. 15+8+8+9= 40. Which means he passes and pokes him in the eye!
Any more clarification needed? If so ask, and I'll tell. If I can get 5 or so pledges of loyalty to ze game, we shall play! I have to go find out how to work a great unclean one into the story now.
Sha Moke - July 6, 2004 08:30 PM (GMT)
I've heard of that system before... but I can't recall where from at the moment. Maybe werewolf...
