OK, welcome all to the RPG forum! The more members we have coming here the better, but before you join in or start your own RPG there are some basic rules you must comply with:
- GMs can double post in order to inform the participants in their RPG - however, other than that this board follows exactly the same rules as the rest of the palace on double posting, spamming, etc.
- 'Leet speak' is completely unacceptable. This is an RP board - use an understandable standard of English, or you'll ruin the game. I understand that people might speak English as a second, third or fiftieth language - it's not spelling I'm bothered about, but rather the lazy rubbish used mostly by English-speakers, such as 'u' for 'you', '4' for 'for', etc. I'll repeat: no leet speak.
- Plagiarisation is also unnacceptable! If you steal someone's idea, whether a plotline or rules, and duplicate it without their permission, that's an instant warning as per the board rules. Remember, three warnings and you're banned, so watch it... you must PM a GM to ask their permission to use any part of their game.
Now the harsh bit's over, some guidelines and pointers:
AbbreviationsFor those who don't understand our crazy RPG talk, here's a brief list of the abbreviations used:
RP or RPG: Role-play or Role-playing game.
OOC: Out of Character. When you post something as yourself, not as your RPG character
IC: In Character. When you post something in the character of your RPG character. Note that this doesn't necessarily mean you have to post in the first person - read some of the old RPGs to get the idea of this.
BIC: Back In Character. Sometimes people will use this if they had an OOC section before.
PC: Player Character. A character controlled by a player.
GM: Gamesmaster. The user who controls and runs the RPG
NPC: Non-player Character. A character controlled by the GM
Policy on Dead RPGsA dead RPG is an RPG that has run its course, either finishing or failing and giving up the ghost halfway through. This is my policy on dead RPGs:
Any RPG that is completed will be locked (to prevent gravedigging) and pinned, so that others might read it without having to go back through page after page of dross. They should be good reading.
Any RPG that is
not completed and remains inactive (i.e. the GM doesn't post) for more than 1 month without an explanation from the GM (i.e. going on a long holiday) will be locked. This is to prevent gravedigging.
The Melting PotApart from completed RPGs, you may have noticed a sticky topic called 'The Melting Pot'. This is a multi-purpose discussion topic - here you can post your idea for an RPG and see what people think of it before you actually start, perhaps finding out whether you've got enough interest to be worth the effort, or finding improvements on your system in other peoples' suggestions. Here you can also post what you found good about RPGs you've participated in, for future GMs to take notice of, or discuss ideas for a character - anything that you think will improve the standard of a specific RPG or the board as a whole. I really hope everyone will discuss this, as it will have a greatly positive effect in reducing the number of RPGs that die before their time and also increasing the quality of RPGs. Remember however: don't spam.
