Title: A Battle for Freedom!
Description: A new Arena (My first)
XXXJaKZXXX - April 13, 2004 08:02 AM (GMT)
This is my first arena and will be like King Phesphestus' Arena of Sands where all characters are in the arena at once. But with a twist, there are four Lions in the arena sort of like gladiator games.
I need 6 characters to compete, these are the rules:
--- Point limit of 350pt
--- No Mounts
--- You must say what you are doing each turn eg. Where you are moving, what spells (if any) you are casting, who you are using your dispell dice against, who you are shooting.
--- Characters will start 16" apart.
--- All characters are unbreakable as they a battling for their freedom.
Turns will be determined randomly.
These are the stats for the four lions:
M-7
WS-5
BS-0
S-4
T-4
W-2
I-4
A-2
Ld-10
The lions have a tough hide and have a 5+ armour save.
I will post the introduction after I have enough characters.
Kingphesphestus - April 13, 2004 08:52 AM (GMT)
Question are the new SoC lists useable, eg dark elf magic items or slayer skills ect
Aesgareth - April 14, 2004 01:40 AM (GMT)
Kozag the Terrible, Doombull of Nurgle (180 points)
M: 6
WS: 6
BS: 3
S: 7
T: 5
W: 5
I: 5 (hits last unless charging)
A: 5
Ld: 9
Save: 5+
Ward: None
Mark of Nurgle (+1 Wound (included in profile) +50 points)
Equipment:
Heavy Armour (5+ save, +6 points)
Slaughterer's Blade (Two-Handed, confers +2 Strength to all attacks, always hits last unless charging, for every wound inflicted by bearer on enemies, roll a D6; on a 4+, the bearer regains one wound, +40 points)
Total Cost: 276 points
Kozag causes fear, and suffers from Bloodgreed (Can never make an overrun move, pursues 3D6 instead of 2D6 inches). Kozag is also immune to killing blow (ogre-sized creature)
Kozag is a towering, bloated and putrescent being, who wades cackling through hordes of foes, his mighty gore-stained axe cleaving a gory path through them as they are stung and harried by the clouds of flies that swarm constantly about him. He seems completely immune to pain, and every time his weapon strikes home, the shaft of his axe releases a cloud of foul spores that cover his fur, invigorating him with their pestilent energy. He has gone undefeated in the pits for many years, amassing a large heap of trophies to the dread god Nurgle, and making him a favorite among the crowds, who often bet great sums of money upon his victories. Kozag cares not for their cheers, however; only for the suffering and terror of those who oppose them, for he knows that their fear of him makes nurgle stronger, their every cry of pain echoing through the realm of plague like a trumpet blast, rallying the armies of decay to new heights of frenzy.
This position in the pits, however, was not attained by choice; years ago, he led a beastherd of Nurglebeasts to their doom when, ambushed by an alliance of Hochlanders and Dwarves, the herd was almost completely decimated. Kozag slew many foes, but, faced with such overwhelmingly bad odds, forgot his devotion for a moment, choosing to flee rather than die upon the field of battle.
Nurgle was displeased by this blatant show of cowardice by one who served him; the servants of plague gave him power by inspiring fear, and one could never inspire terror by fleeing. He chose to punish Kozag by leading him into yet another trap; he was captured by slavers who were seeking rare and dangerous creatures to put in their gladiatorial pits. He slew many, but in the end, the blessings of his god were temporarily relieved, allowing him to fall prey to a toxin of sleep. When he awoke, he realized that he had been punished by his god. He seeks, therefore, to re-earn Nurgle's favour. By making his name synonymous with terror in the pits, he hopes that Nurgle will grant him a way to fight free of this slavery, to lead a beastherd to war once again...

Pts total: 244 pts (about that)
Apperance: His armour looks like a normal bretonnian armour with a shine of light blue. His axe sometimes sparkle with green colour, especially during fights. He is utterly devoted to the lady.
A question: Do you still write the fights like stories?
trouble - April 15, 2004 12:47 PM (GMT)
Shanraa of the Swift Blade.
Shanraa of the Swift Blade grew up a warrior and has been one ever since. With his skill he rose through the ranks very quickly, a brilliant tactician and amazing skill with the sword made it easy for him. His sword, The Swift Blade (blade of leaping gold), was gifted to him by the god Vaul, his shield was enchanted by his dying father while he was on his deathbed. His suit of armour was made by the blind priests of Vaul and his helm (helm of fortune) was made with it, but given extra care.
He fights in the arena, for one day he was shamed by killing his son when in a towering rage. He left of his own will, and will not leave the arena until death allows.
High Elven Prince
The Swift Blade (blade of leaping gold)-+3 attacks
Shield of My Father (enchanted shield).-5+ armour save
Armour of Vaul (heavy armour)-5+ armour save
Great Helm of Vaul (helm of fortune)-6+ armour save, re-roll armour saves.
this charecter won it's first battle back at the Olde Wolrd, i hope it can do well here.
XXXJaKZXXX - April 15, 2004 10:22 PM (GMT)
Thats three characters. Half way their.
@SwedishViking: Yes, I will be writing the fights like a story.
@Trouble: Can you please put in the stats of your High Elven Prince.
Swedishviking - April 16, 2004 02:42 PM (GMT)
Jakz, I can give them to you.

Sorry if i dont do this right i am new to this so you may need to guide me.
Aesgareth - April 17, 2004 06:17 PM (GMT)
Legan: Just a thought, but it might be fun to write up some fluff as to why you have a grudge against Kozag. I am by no means telling you that you have to; it would just be fun, I think.
Vriishnak the Twisted - April 17, 2004 07:33 PM (GMT)
Fang, Strigoi Lord. 340 points.
M6 WS8 BS6 S5 T5 W4 I8 A6 Ld10
Strigoi Bloodline: 5+ ward, +1 A (in profile), level 2 mage with Necromancy.
Curse of the Revenent: Regeneration.
(Not sure if you know the most recent clarification of regen rules, where you only have to roll a maximum number of dice equal to remaining wounds, and each save passed results in a wound remaining. Basically, any wounds beyond the number remaining are discarded prior to making regen saves.)
Also, I'm assuming that the unbreakable rule replaces the undead rules.
Right, how does magic work? I'm assuming you'll roll up for spells vefore the fight and tell us what we have?
For long years, one of the main attractions of the pit fighting has been a savage beast, captured by a group of slavers after a long fight with unknown opponents, caged and chained while bleeding and near death. After being sold to the organizers of the pit fights, his wounds healed with amazing rapidity, nobody noticing the drained bodies of minor handlers and trainers, and he had his first fight mere days later.
He has suffered horrible wounds, but always recovered, the spilled blood of his foes acting as a salve to his cuts and allowing him to fight on. The pure savagery of his attacks hides the malign intellect behind his actions, and very few realise that he is actually a sentient being.
Since the crowd has never been given a name for this beast, they have taken to referring to him as Fang, in honour of his predilection for biting his opponents, living or dead.
Note: description will come later, after I've thought about it some more.
LordChilipepa - April 18, 2004 07:55 AM (GMT)
Xacati, Oldblood of First Cohort [140]
M4 WS6 BS0 S5 T5 W3 I3 A5 Ld8
Cold-blooded, 5+ scaly skin.
Blessed Spawning of Quetzl [15]: +1 scaly skin save
Blessed Spawning of Sotek [20]: +1 attack on the charge (I'm assuming there will be charging in this)
Blessed Spawning of Tepok [20]: +1 dispel dice (to stop the Strigoi raising some playmates)
Light armour [4]
Shield [2]
Revered Blade of Tzunki [65]: +1S, ignores armour saves
Aura of Quetzl [30]: 4+ ward save against attacks with S5 or more
2+ armour
4+ ward against S5 or more
5(6 on the charge) S6 attacks, ignoring armour
3 dispel dice
296pts
My strategy: Steer clear of the Strigoi, unless he's already being engaged, in which case attack him as well and try to kill him using outnumbering and any wounds I cause. Go after Shanraa.
Description: Xacati is the youngest Oldblood in Rezephua, but no less ferocious than his more battle-hardened cousins. He wields a deadly toothed blade, the wooden core of the weapon carved from mahogany and worked with many magical glyphs. His other hand carries a crocodile-hide-bound shield, studded with barbed obsinite blades, and he wears the ceremonial armour of the Rezephua Praetorian guard, including a plumed Stegadon Helm. His hide is a bluish-green and slightly moist, and the larger scutes running down his back have begun to darken, turning almost black.
Fluff: Like many of the other Oldbloods in Rezephua, he often participates in arenas to hone his martial skills.
XXXJaKZXXX - April 20, 2004 07:22 AM (GMT)
OK, now I have six characters, the arena will start on Friday afternoon (Australia time, so early friday morning in America, I think). For spells, I will roll them for you.
I am guessing you are using Necromancy Vriishnak so Fang has the Following Spells:
3-Hellish Vigour
6-Curse of Years
If you want to swap one for Invocation, then just post before Friday.
Vriishnak the Twisted - April 20, 2004 04:53 PM (GMT)
Drop Curse of Years; it's harder to cast and likely won't do anything except prevent my invoking.
Aesgareth - April 22, 2004 04:26 AM (GMT)
*laughs* Come on, Chili. I know that you can do better than that!
LordChilipepa - April 22, 2004 03:36 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I was a bit rushed. Here's a revised fluff:
Fluff: Like many of the other Oldbloods in Rezephua, he often participates in arenas to hone his martial skills. Also, Chilipepa has recently obtained a scrying crystal from an... unfortunately deceased... Loremaster of Ulthuan, who happened to be stopping by when a grand piano fell on him (see, I never forget a detail about characters - the pathological hatred of all elves is still there :)). Since Qipatzli and the other Oldbloods are readying the regiments for Archaon's invasion, Chilipepa has begun to use Xacati, the only Rezephuan oldblood not yet to have recieved a command greater than a single regiment, to fight in the arenas and place vast bets on whoever is going to win. It also gives him a convenient method of preserving his fighter, as he can have all the necessary runes ready to bring Xacati back from whatever horrible death he suffers. Chilipepa's excuse for this massive corruption is that there's a war on - the funds are necessary. Fortunately, no Slann have stopped by to check yet, as the winnings are in fact flowing into the "New Holiday Pyramid for Chili in Estalia" treasury box, and not the "Vital Defences Against the Deathly Hordes of Chaos" box - which is sadly empty.
XXXJaKZXXX - April 23, 2004 09:26 AM (GMT)
Sorry Guys, this is going to have to be delayed for a week. Just been dropped on me that, the first Year 10 exams <_< are on Monday and I have not studied (not because I am lazy but because I didn't know  ). Well these are very important as they contribute to 20% of my grade for my Year 10 certificate. :o
Once again, sorry and please bear with me, I will start sometime before next Saturday.
PS. I cannot be more sorry. :(
Legan Fireforge - April 23, 2004 06:12 PM (GMT)
I understand, I'm in year 10 too. God i hate exams!!
XXXJaKZXXX - April 26, 2004 08:11 AM (GMT)
As Sylas opened his eyes, laying in bliss as his personal servants attended to his needs. He moved into an upright position, thinking for a second and then rising, the cheer from the gathered crowd was tremendous. He knew his power and position was the object of desire for many. But the select few who were fighting for their lives today, their desire was for freedom. Taken from them by Sylas. As the King of Toldianas moved forward towards the edge of the balcony, he motioned for his wife to join him. He took her hand with his, waving his other arm in a swift lever motion, signalling the release of the prisoners. As each left his newly opened cage, he studied his foe with precision, assesing their strengths and weaknesses. The low rumbling of drums relayed to the audience and competitors, that the lions had been released and the battle had begun, a Battle for Freedom!
The turns are in the following order:
Kozag the Terrible
Legan the Crazed
Xacati
Shanraa Leapingblade
The Lions
Joaquin of Parravon
Fang
Let the Battles begin...
Vriishnak the Twisted - April 26, 2004 07:49 PM (GMT)
Where are we all positioned, relative to each other and to the lions? Also, will the turn order change after each turn, or am I stuck going last all the way through?
XXXJaKZXXX - April 27, 2004 09:08 AM (GMT)
The arena is circular with a hexagon shaped setup of characters with the lions in the middle. The distance between the characters is 16", the circle (even though it is setup as a hexagon) has a radius of 16".
So the character in the top right hand corner, is 16" from the character to his left and to his right and 16" away from the lions.
The characters are in the following positions (from the top left in a clockwise direction):
Legan the Crazed
Fang
Joaquin of Parravon
Xacati
Kozag the Terrible
Shanraa Leapingblade
No Vriishnak, the order will change each turn.
To clear this up with everybody, the lions will move randomly using the scatter dice (they will move straight towards the closest character to the direction the arrow is pointing) and they will move as fast as possible (14" at a time) and charge when they can.
Lets start...
EDIT: I hope you get the idea, will try and get a pic up soon.
Legan Fireforge - April 29, 2004 03:18 PM (GMT)
ummmmm should someone have made a move by now!?!?! if u want we could skip korgaz and go straight on to me, but i would prefer someone else to go before me cause i'm not quite sure what to do still (i'm new to this). Oh and if you decide to drop korgaz through inactivity then i would like to change my rune of grudges to another character plz.
Aesgareth - April 29, 2004 07:56 PM (GMT)
Meh. I'll just attack whoever is closest.
Legan Fireforge - April 30, 2004 03:34 PM (GMT)
LordChilipepa - May 1, 2004 03:26 PM (GMT)
That's semi-spam, Legan - compounded by the fact that you should have posted your actions after him!
Legan Fireforge - May 1, 2004 06:22 PM (GMT)
Very Very very very very very very sorry about that, i was very tired then and i only just relised what i done. Okay now for my move, plz dont laugh at me cause i'm new to this, hmmmmmm well ill move as far as i can towards korgaz (how far can we move in a turn). Oh and chilipepa i lov your sig, i'm not suckin up or anythin
LordChilipepa - May 2, 2004 09:17 AM (GMT)
Thanks. Well, my go - Xacati's going to pelt it towards Shanraa Leapingblade, and try to engage in combat.
Say goodbye, elf.
trouble - May 3, 2004 09:11 PM (GMT)
The tall elf circles around the large slow lizard. The thing showed some signs of life, such as the occasional blink. As Shanraa began ro become bored, the lizard (wait! he is a lizardmen right? this computer is the slowest thing on earth and i´m not willing to go back and look) belowed something to the sky and took a mighty swing at Shanraa. The elf, so suprised at his sudden movments, took a hit to the chest, thinking that his armour would rebound the slash, Shanraa was suprised to feel blood seeping through his clothes. The elf began to feel fear for the first time in his life, but calmed himself and swung at the Oldblood hacking down once, twice thrice on the great beast, the animal bellowed, but only a small amount of blood was drawn...
This is what I was supposed to do right?
I know that I should have attacked first because of higher Initiative and all that, but it just made the battle more interesting.
I´m counting on winning this Chile! :P
Vriishnak the Twisted - May 3, 2004 09:26 PM (GMT)
Just have to post your actions, Jakz works out the results of combats. Nothing wrong with how you did it.
giles - May 8, 2004 06:25 PM (GMT)
hate to interupt your wonderful game :P but... this looks fun!! may i ask when the next will occur? and pre-emptively express interest???
many thanks
giles
Prince Cal - May 8, 2004 09:10 PM (GMT)
I agree. I would like to do the next one.
Legan Fireforge - May 9, 2004 07:51 AM (GMT)
Well at the moment this game is being a real drag, i bet half the people playin in it have forgotten there in it. JaKZ seems to have forgotten that he controls the lions which means its his turn.
P.S.
PLASTIC HAMMER 4 is nearly here!! I have also seen the a short clip from it too!!
elvesofchrace - May 10, 2004 08:56 PM (GMT)
XXXJaKZXXX - May 11, 2004 06:27 AM (GMT)
Extremely soory about the delay. Should be able to check back every two days now for a while. I have assumed that Shanraa has moved as far as possible towards Xacati, because they are still a fair distance away, they cannot engage in combat.
The Lions Turn:
First Lion Charges Shanraa
Second Lion Charges Xacati (thats what you get when you run past four starving lions)
Third Lion moves 14" towards Legan
Fourth Lion moves 14" towards Joaquin
They lions just moved as far as possible, towards the closest person.
PS. I am extremely sorry for not being able to reply for so long. As I have all ready explained, I have been busy with exams and lots of assignments in the past couple of weeks.
Swedishviking - May 13, 2004 07:05 PM (GMT)
It's me after the lions!
Joaquin will charge that bloody lion who moved towards him.
CHAAAAAAAAAARGE!
Vriishnak the Twisted - May 13, 2004 07:58 PM (GMT)
If Fang is in range, he will charge Joaquin, and cast Hellish Vigour with 2 dice. If not in range, move to 20" away and cast a 7+ Invocation to raise zombies between me and the nearest character (likely Joaquin).
Swedishviking - May 14, 2004 07:00 PM (GMT)
Yeah charge me while I'm doing battle, just do it!
....
This will be a battle to remember!
XXXJaKZXXX - May 27, 2004 08:58 AM (GMT)
As he lions are released, they wait, circling around each other, eying their prey and taking their pick. Clear enemies were present before they had begun, the slayer would attempt to honour his oath and fight the Doombull. The warriors played true to these predictions and as the slayer began charging towards the Doombull, the terrible monster reacted and started to lumber towards the Dwarf. Elsewhere in the arena, the mutated vampire stepped from the shadows, straining his eyes against the blowing sand, he eyed his past brethren, the Brettonian Knight, Joaquin. The gallant mortal battling to hold off but one of the four lions. His axe in hand, he cut down the beast after parrying its heavy blows.
The Strigoi, known as Fang, tapped his energies into the winds of magic and began to practice the ancient art of Necromancy. In the centre of the arena, great winds began to blow, lifting the loose sand from the bodies of past gladiators, new life coming to them. Thirteen of the abominations awoke to the call of their new master.
The nimble elf, Shanraa, waited, gazing at his combatants, assesing their strengths and weaknesses, almost transe-like, he stood balancing his finely crafted sword by the hilt. With one sudden, fluid motion, he bounded towards the large Suarus, Xacati, the great bulk of muscle hurling himself in the elf's direction. They were nearly at each other's throats when they were each pounced upon by the mass of fur, teeth and claws. After dodging the ferocious attacks, Shanraa leaped high into the air, spinning his sword to a downward position and cupping his palm around the end of the hilt, he forced the blade down the length of the lion's spine, the intricate design, now awash with blood. The great animal upon Xacati was tearing at his scailed flesh, seeming to have no effect until it swung one massive paw across the eyes of the Oldblood, causing the great fighter to use his animal instincts, snapping at the throat of the lion, tearing it out with one brutal bite.
Rising from the ground, Xacati, decided what to do next...
Results from this round:
Shanraa killed Lion 1
Xacati killed Lion 2 after taking 1 wound
Joaquin killed lion 3
Fang raised 13 Zombies
Sorry about taking so long. Now am definately able to check back every couple of days.
The new turn goes like this.
Joaquin
Fang and Zombies
Legan
Kozag
Xacati
Shanraa
Lion 4
It is time for the next turn.
Legan Fireforge - May 27, 2004 01:32 PM (GMT)
Not to pick at your scores but i distinctly remember you saying that there was only 4 lions, but in the scores it shows that all the lions have been killed plus one other which doesnt exist  . Well i thought i would just mention it anyway, loved the vivid story there. NICE. :D :D
Swedishviking - May 27, 2004 04:19 PM (GMT)
I'm first!
Tactic: Move towards the closest character, charging if possible. NOT fang though, if he's closest, I'll charge the second closest one.
