hi,
i've got a G3/B&W (300MHz, no internal modem, 2 partitions, 3 GB each) which keeps crashing (the mouse freezes).
I'm currently using OS 9.2.1.
memory: 128MB (SpecTek, P16M648YLEE7-100 CL3A 0013_M1/N1 4008 D7),
I've built in another 128MB (P16M648YLEA7-133 CL3A 128 MB PC133 SDRAM 0141 N31792).
it doesn't help to:
get rid of the additional memory
to restart with emptying the PRAM
to redo the desktop folder
to down- or upgrade to a new system (clean or on top)
to turn off the system extensions
to turn virtual memory on or off
norton either can't find any problems or says all problems were fixed.
even when no programs are running (or even installed), it crashes.
recently it wouldn't start anymore, not even from CD. I had to reinstall the system which took several tries.
at the moment i can't really do anything... especially when i try to use the internet (DSL, Ethernet cable). when i use Explorer (5.0), it keeps quitting the program (error 3, haha), mostly after only a few seconds. it also is nearly as slow as a modem. sometimes I can't even connect (system resources?). after I reinstalled the system last time, it gave me a list of missing system extensions (AppleScriptLib - - shlb cfrg, Internet Access - - shlb INTA, OpenTpt Modem - - libr OMGR, OpenTpt Remote, Access - - libr OMGR) and of missing control panels (General - - cdev misc, Startvolume - - cdev sdsk)
also, it keeps quitting other programs such as photoshop and sometimes even the finder for some obscure reason.
maybe it would be better to downgrade to 8.6, but my external cd writer only works whith 9.1. +. or is there any chance to get free or cheap software for it ( lacie 52x24x52) that works on 8.6?
could it be a memory problem? as I bought the computer second hand, I can't be sure whether the first memory bit is originally from apple. if not, does anyone know what i have to get for this machine?
too many questions, i know, but i'd be happy if anyone could help. thanks very much in advance,
