Hello, friends.
I got my G5 last week, and oh man it is spectacular.
Now, I have a PC and the G5 in my room, and I want to network them. I don't really know anything about compatibility issues, but I'm guessing this wont be a walk in the park.
I also want to know if it is possible to network them without using something like virtual pc for the mac.
Last, I want to inform all of you of a really cool game, free for download from apple.com, called GLtron. It is only 3.6mb, and it is the coolest version of snake ever. Some of you have probably already discovered this gem.

Yea, it really is a walk in the park networking Mac OS X with a PC. If the PC has Windows XP on it, even better!
I have a network with Windows XP at home, so I'll describe the setup.
use the Ethernet Cable and connect the two together.
Now the first thing I would do here, is on the Mac, click on the Menu, 'Go', select connect to server and see if the PC shows up. (give it about 10-20 seconds to look).
If it doesn't show up, no matter. Just go into your system preferences and and select the button, 'Network' which will have a blue globe sort of icon. Click on that, and tweek around with some settings in there.
You can try Step one again, and if that fails again, go to your 'Sharing' Control Panel, and tweek around with settings in there. Also, click on your main hard drive icon on the desktop, in the little menu of privelages, make it so everyone can read and write.
Also, you may need to make another account for the PC. Do this in the Users control Panel. Make sure it's an admin
Hope this helps, and you become a regular user at the Mac forum!
Need any more help with another issue? just post in the correct forum.
Yes, as James has described, it is a walk in the park. In the past it was a little harder, but with XP and OSX, it's a piece of cake.
Don't forget to install iTunes on both machines.... very cool!!
well, i'm running windows 2000, but that does sound a lot easier than I imagined. I'm so pleased to live in an age where you can plug anything into anything, and have total strangers tell you how to do it. this is great. you people are wonderful!
