Thanks to Apple for making iTunes available to windows users! I was over to my daughter's house last night for dinner and while I was there I downloaded iTunes for her and showed her how easy it is to use. She was thrilled. And I was happy too.
She is a hardcore Windows user and has been for years. In fact she was one one of my teachers when I got into computers in Jan 2000. Since she and others started me off on computers I have, thankfully, taken that Apple fork in the road but she has not. She's still beating her brains out on a Dell with WinXP.
Up until last night she has been managing her mp3 music collection with MucicMatchJukebox- which she says (and I agree) is very tricky and complicated. When she saw how simple and straightforward iTunes is, she immediately un-installed Music Match and made iTunes her default mp3 player. I showed her how to do the playlists and how to import new music and how to buy music from iTunes Music Store. We just had a great time. We were playing "Mac" on a WinPC!! Amazing. It's almost identical to the Mac version!
I think that making iTunes free and available to Windows users was a great marketing idea that will not only give people the world's best music management program for free but will also give millions of Windows users a little taste of Mac OS X's legendary beauty and ease of use. I would think that this move by Apple will bring many, many more "switchers" into the fold- to say nothing about how many more iPods they will sell and how many millions more songs! Congratulations--Great idea!
Some very good & true words were in that post, so it has been pinned for user comment.
