Title: [G]Mac Email and Comcast
Description: Can't Receive Email

threeberners - October 7, 2003 10:53 PM (GMT)
Used to have att.net. Got sold to comcast.net. They gave us a program to change over all our settings.

It changed the settings in mac email, but didn't change the settings in system preferences>internet.

I changed them. Did restart. Had to throw away all mailboxes except new settings so that the program would actually try to retreive mail.

It gets as far as Preparing to Retreive... and then doesn't retreive them. I think it may be timing out.

I get no error messages any longer.

What next? I haven't reloaded the software yet, don't want to deal with all my saved mail until I have to.

Thanks for the help.

First of all, welcome to the Mac Forum!
OK, what happens if you create a new mailbox, naming it something different. (If your original mailbox was named 123, name this one ABC.) Re-configure your email settings, log out, and log back in. Click get mail, and hopefully you'll have mail. You can then delete the old, possibly corrupted, mailbox.
Does that help?

Welcome to MacForum!

I myself have comcast.net and like you, had attbi.com. The transition went very smoothly for me. Did you download the correct version of the software? there were two.. Also, the transition was on June 30th. Are you just now running the transition wizard? I think that the wizard had a short shelf life. I think I remember that you had to run it within a certain number of days after the change. I would configure manually. Let us know if you need more help.

Thanks for the replies.

Haven't done anything new since the first post. Was waiting for comcast to try to fix their problems that they were experiencing, hoping that would fix mine. No such luck.

So now I'm thinking that I need to reload the email software from mac. I've checked all my settings, both in the program and in the system preferences. I've made a new account thinking the old one was corrupted (and lost all my messages, thank you very much).

Any other ideas?
