Title: lost iTunes tracks
Description: where oh where did my tunes go?

viper - October 2, 2003 10:11 AM (GMT)
My Mac was playing up real bad, so after lots of unsuccesfull debugging i reformatted the HD. I backed it all up but when i installed iTunes again and put my original files back in place, half of my tunes have the missing'?' icon in the window! I could fix them all manually but there are hundreds to do.

Any suggestions as to why this happened or how to fix? I am using OS 9.2

Cheers in advance [itunes]

Welcomme the the Mac Forum!!!

Try this trick, uninstalling iTunes and then re install any version, as you may remember, the system brings up a license agreement, and after that asks if you want it to find any audio tracks on your HD(s) the only downside is that it will also get the audio from any and all video saved as an MPEG format.

Let us know if it worked.

Thanks for the idea, but before i do it - do you think i will loose all my tracklists if i do this? I would rather not have to loose them if possible! [itunes]

If you start moving around songs, iTunes will not know where they are.

If you do what Duo suggested, it will load up all your tracks in a single playlist. The 'Library'.

The way to organise them the quickest, is while in the library, use the search to narrow searches. (Provided you have given CD names etc.)
