Title: 400mHz G3 w/isight

i'm sure this has been posted a million times, but for all my searching: i got nuthin!

i'm hoping the mac geniuses could help me out here.

i'm currently on a powerbook g3 (firewire model, read: 400mHz processor..yes, it's slow.)

i recently purchased the isight despite the "must have a 600mHz processor or faster" warning. bah! says i, i'm sure there's a hack that will override that....

but of course, my un-technical self just can't find the hack. i was hoping someone could point me in the right direction, or let me know of a hack that worked for them.

thanks in advance all!

btw, i do plan on buying a g5 17" when the dang things are released, but i was hoping i wouldn't have to wait that long to use this wonderful little gadget that is the isight.

Well, I hate to disappoint you but you might as well try to get your money back for the iSight. It won't work with your computer or the G5 you might have someday. The whole thing is in beta testing and if you go to the apple site>discussions>iSight you can read the sad stories of many other folks just like you and me who thought we had something in the iSight. It is plagued with problems. The processor has to be 600MHz or better to do video. You could do audio on any G3 but not video. Even if your computer meets or exceeds the requirements it may only work only part of the time. And most of the time it dosen't. When it does work at all the video is very bad and the audio if you can hear it at all is very spotty. "Wait a a while until it is corrected" is the advice I have been getting from the discussions on apple. And you are looking for a hack. You could have apples newest computers and still not have iChat or iSight.

Also on that old machine, the graphics card is not rugged enough to handle full screen streaming video.

so is the recommendation across the board just to return it, or should i just hold onto it until i get a new machine?

I would return it until your get a new machine, that way you'll get your money back & when you get a new machine, there will probably be a new, revised iSight out.
