Title: iSight inSights

alarson2 - September 17, 2003 03:43 AM (GMT)
Well, I have had my iSight camera for over a month now and I really like it. It's nice to be able to talk in my voice rather than type with my two fingers. iChat Video/iSight is for people who have to hunt and peck at the keys and don't like it. That's me. I do not really like to type. It's flat easier to talk than to type. As it happens though I am a little ahead of my friends and family- I'm out here on the Mac wire all by myself.

So- I have been making new friends on the net- others with iSight capability with no one in their circle to talk to over the iChatAV program. So far I have chatted with nine individuals- some just once and others several times. I have met an Apple dealer from Florida, a photographer from PA, a college professor from a different part of PA, a musician in Alabama and thankfully, we all have Apple and Mac in common- all are on OS X and have faster computers and cable or DSL- so we have a lot to talk about right from the get go-- and that's been fun. Now I know some people who are as Mac crazy as I myself am.

And I have already learned a good bit from these people--they are all such geeks. They know Mac like the backs of their hands. Some of them have been using Macs since the eighties. But you know, since OS X came out a while ago, that sort of leveled the playing field because everybody- old timers and new users and switchers alike had to learn the new OS- so for a while, everybody was a beginner.

All the folks I have chatted with so far are the same sex and age that I am. You can search the chat site by any criteria you want -clean, dirty, young, old, male, female, gay, straight, catholic, protestant, muslim --whatever. I wanted to play it safe-- Maybe one day I'll try somebody else but for now I'm sticking to my own demographic.

All and all the thing works real well and the picture is acceptable. I Know it's better than some other web cams because two of the chatters I met had DrBotts until they saw the picture from my iSight. Then they went and got their own iSights right away. I think everybody should have one and we all should just have one big cluster chat. hehehe. That would be good.

Not to be mean or anything but I told you so. I pretty much know that we will se one more non G5 15" as it will be in the 1.33, 1.42Ghz range, I don't think there will ever be a 1.42Ghz 17" though as its larger size would allow it to cool the G5 better. We'll know in about six months if I'm right.

Yeah, you did tell me to wait. But I'm perfectly happy with my PowerBook now. I sorta knew that the new 15in was coming, because when I went to my local Apple store, I saw a 12in, and a 17in, but no 15in. So I asked someone, and they said, "We'll see, Sysop. You may see something new soon."
LOL.
