Title: [X]itunes streamer
Description: streamer will not stay on

sizzlechest - August 21, 2003 10:15 PM (GMT)
Anybody know what it means when the itunes radio streamer will not stay on- basically when you open up a stream it turns on for a few seconds then the whole application quits "the application itunes has unexpectedly quit". This happens every time i open a stream in itunes. Anyone?........Anyone?................(itunes 4.01)

My Radioio is working fine--Don't think it's iTunes tuning servicers. Do you have a lot of other programs running at the same time--you have plenty of RAM?

What kind of computer do you have? [chuckles]

I'll just use real one player for the time being - that seems to work fine.

No problem, Sizzlechest and Alarson.

Sizzlechest,
So, did that solve your problem? Can you listen to the radio?

I am having the same problem as are several users in a thread in the apple support area but noone has come up with a good answer yet.

I'm using a 17" PBG4 with all of the latest software. iTunes recently started crashing everytime I try to stream a radio station. I've tried trashing the prefs, the app, and my database with no relief.

The problem does seem to be pref related as I created a new user and ran itunes under the new account and could stream a station without problems.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make this go away? I feel like I'm running windows applications again!!! sheesh!!!

Update: I don't think the problem is with my preference files anymore. I moved the preference folder to an external drive and disconnected it before a restart to rebuild the preferences folder. I still end up crashing itunes when trying to 1) stream radio or 2) edit the ID3 tags of a playing tune.

The problem does however, seem to be related to my user account as I created a new user account and was able to stream and edit a playing song without any crashes.

So what in my user folder apart from the preferences could be responsible for this behavior?

Not quite sure, have you run any disk utilities on it yet? I.E. FSCK, disk first aid, disk warrior. It could be a permissions problem, goto disk utility located it HD>aplications>utllities folder and under the First Aid tab select your drive and repair permissions, in fact do it twice incase it misses one, that may just do the trick. If not put the install CD in and restart the computer while holding the alt or option key depending on the keyboard, select the CD when it comes up and the computer will boot off the CD, it will start the installer but if you goto the menubar you can launch disk utility from there, again under the First Aid tab you select your drive and then use repair disk.

If that doesn't work then you can try the command line version of First Aid, FSCK. Restart the computer holding down apple+s until you see the screen turn black and white text starts coming up, wait till it stops then type:
/sbin/fsck -y
and hit return, do not forget to place the space between the k and the -.
to exit the UNIX shell wait till the tests are done and type:
reboot
and hit return.

If you have something stronger, like Alsoft's Disk Warrior use them.

Well, after a few more hours of tweaking I finally got things running properly. I had run disk warrior but that didn't seem to immediately help. I then went through my preference files and deleted all of the ones from applications which I had installed and removed. It was after that and a restart that the problem went away but that doesn't make sense since blowing away the entire preference directory didn't seem to help. But I won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Thanks for the help,

Bob Hepler
