Title: How far can you...

Duo Maxwell - April 26, 2003 11:31 PM (GMT)
mod a G4 Cube? I know you can add huge friggin HDs, DVD burners, graphics cards, CPU upgrades and cool lights, but how can you make it the fastest it can be but still safe enough that all the extra power wont burn a hole through the case? How far can it safely be moded?

MacAdmin/Mod - April 27, 2003 12:30 AM (GMT)
I didn't know you could add cool lights! Well, I don't know much about G4 Cubes, so I'm not the one to ask. However, since you're the only REAL member on the board :( I thought I'd reply.

Well I've been looking into it a little, I love the desine of the Cube so much that I'm pretty sure that it will be my next mac and my first desktop mac. I found the light hack here along with several others including CRT iMacs, got a CRT iMac but want a bigger screen? Try making your own 21" iMac! Back to the Cube, there are mod insturtions at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ but for some reason I get a timed out message everytime I try to goto it. But the mods are old, I don't think you can still find an N-vidia Gforce2.

WOW! Some of those are really cool! 21 inch iMac!

Man those cubes are small!, hey duo, maybe you could try eBay to find a GF4. My brother got a 32MB Raedon 8500 off someone there.

Yeah the hacks there are cool but aren't for the faint of heart, in other words if you aint as smart as you are nutz then don't try it. I have also heard of illuminated cooling fans but have no idea where to get them or if they are of the smaller size that Cube needs for the mods. Have you seen the hacked laptops yet? James you should tell them about you 1400c.

James McDowall - April 29, 2003 05:32 AM (GMT)
Not hacked, but upgraded.

I'll First put what is used to be, and opposite, what Mine is now.

My PB1400c:

Mac OS 7.5.6 - Mac OS 10.2.5
117mhz 603e - 250mhz G3 PowerPC
32MB RAM - 128MB RAM
2MB VRAM - 8 MB VRAM
CD-ROM/1.44 - Combo Drive (4x4x6x24)
No Ethernet - 10/100 Built-in Faralon Ethernet

And the wierdest thing: when I changed the motherboard the startup noise changed.

This thing flies now!!!!!

Duo Maxwell - April 30, 2003 10:36 AM (GMT)
Thats because the startup chime is stored in the firmware, I have heard of a guy hacking it and making it something else, imagine if SEGA made macs! It'd be like the genesis, segahhh... or like the saturn, SEGA!

Its about damn time! I finally got into it! here's the rest of those hacks on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems.html#cube, I'll be looking for more hacks as well.

Oh, before I forget, I found where to get several different kinds of cathodes and cathode fans, check em' out! http://pcmods.com/
