Title: Fullmetel Alchemist
Description: I think I'm in love
Ad-Man - November 8, 2004 04:28 AM (GMT)
This is an incredable show on adult swim. It's about two boys who study the science of alchemy. Alchemy seems to be taking preexisting matter and changeing it to something else. Like gold into lead. When the boys mother dies, they try to rebuild by using the right elements to create her. But something went wrong. Something else was made. Also, I don't entirely get how one boy was turned into a suit of armor, but the other boy lost an arm an a leg (add bad pun here).
I have to say this rocks. I've never really liked "magic" and stuff, even though I watch stuff like Inuyasha I just rewrite it in my brain to be they way I want it. But on the other hand I love powers and stuff. So I'm fascinated that they have such a strong science bound concept. I've written fics that involve rearanging not just atoms, but the protrons, neutrons (spell?) and electrons to "create" matter.
Any thoughts?
MR. O.M.A: I have one! You forgot the "L" in Alchemist! XD

MY SIG SAYS IT ALL.
Sort of. I'm hooked on this, I've know about it for a good long time but I never got around to downloading the episodes off a torrent, so I'll have to make do with Adult Swim. Though I must say I really like how they aren't censoring anything. I mean, it's FUNMATION for gods sakes. I'm shocked they left it that ture to the real thing.
Also, Al's body got disengrated in the accident, but Ed transfered his Soul to that suit of armor at the last second to save him.
Background Bailey - November 8, 2004 07:42 PM (GMT)
It looks good. I'll keep watching.
Al's growing on me. :D
Kirbopher15 - November 8, 2004 08:49 PM (GMT)
Kudos to FUNimation for another excellent job on english dubs :D
I've seen only the first episode and I can already tell that this anime kicks MAJOR @$$. I especially liked how Ed had a Zetto-ish Mech arm (shut up...) and Rose is TOO DAMN CUTE X3 so I can't wait to see more.
BTW, does anyone know if the person who amde this anime is the same person who made Shaman King or Love Hina? UC and I are trying to figure it out.
And I'm sad to say that Ghost in the Shell didn't grab my attention as much as I thought it would. I dun care HOW hot the main character is >>
Itachi - November 8, 2004 09:12 PM (GMT)
It has the same Director as Shaman King if that's what your asking. Though this is far better then it. In my opinion at least. Much more amusing too, but then again it didn't get bastardized by 4kids.
Kudos to Funimation NOTHING. They get RESPECT. They didn't editing ANYTHING in that episode. Not even the bloody half gone leg and disengrated arm of Ed.
Kirbopher15 - November 9, 2004 12:24 AM (GMT)
Oh come on!! Don't tell me you hate FUNimation too!?
flamegirl - November 9, 2004 12:28 AM (GMT)
Itachi - November 9, 2004 12:30 AM (GMT)
Did I SAY I did? No. Don't go assuming stuff like that please. They just editted the living shit out of some parts of Yu Yu Hakusho, badly at times as well. But they did a good job with the dubbing and that is what 4Kids fails at too often to count. That and they edit everyyytthaaannngggg.... Just like that "Once piece... Of crap" flash dictated.
I mean, Funimation made VERY. GOOD. CALLS. On this anime. They left the original japanese music, though what they show at the end is actually the opening but okay they prolly are doing that with YYH too. The voice acting is top notch, the story is completely intact according to people I've asked who watched the fan subbed stuff. So yeah, they get ALOT of Respect for keeping it this true and blue to the original.
Kirbopher15 - November 9, 2004 12:37 AM (GMT)
Well that's why you should buy Uncut DVDs of YYH and not watch what they show on Toonami (they SO should have showed the Chapter Black saga in Adult Swim...) and as far as the songs go for YYH, I actually like the english versions of the openings and endings anyway. Not just because I understand them, but also because they seemed tocuhed up a bit, and thus sound a lot better.
Anyway back on topic. I managed to spot a few popular FUNimation VAs in this show right away.
Ed is played by the VA of Brolli from DBZ and Uraurashima from YYH. (Victor...something)
The mysterious girl in the black jacket is played by the VA of Kid Trunks from DBZ and Keiko from YYH. (Laura Bailey)
The dude at the counter of that bar place they went to around the beginning was Inspector MgGuire from Dectective Conan.
..and everyone else...no clue U^^
Itachi - November 9, 2004 12:50 AM (GMT)
Aaron Dismuke as Alphonse Elric ( Nothing much I've found, but he's been in Kiddy Grade and Fruits Basket )
Vic Mignogna as Edward Elric (Raven from Gravion, Kougaiji from Saiyuki )
Caitlin Glass as Winry Rockbell (Fresh face, only has a couple parts in Case Closed in her history)
Dameon Clarke as Scar ( Future Gohan from History of Trunks, Arbrust from Kiddy Grade)
Travis Willingham as Roy Mustang (Another guy with few credits, though he was Yanagisawa in the Yu Yu Hakusho movie )
Colleen Clinkenbeard as Rose Tomas/Rize Hawkeye (Eclair from Kiddy Grade)
Laura Bailey as Lust ( Serena from Case Closed, Alv from Kiddy Grade )
That's a majority of the main characters. So yeah.
Kirbopher15 - November 9, 2004 12:54 AM (GMT)
._.
...WOW.
Well I'm surprised to know that was the voice of Cell/Toguro doing Gohan's voice in the Trunks movie. and it sounds like there are some actors from other dubbing companies mixed in their along with FUNimation's usual cast. I'm surprised I didn't at least hear Chris Sabat doing some guy in the background or something XD
P.S. for those of you who didn't get that, Chris Sabat (voice of Vegeta/Piccolo/Yamcha) does a HUUUUUGE load of voices on just about every anime he's ever worked on.
Itachi - November 9, 2004 01:00 AM (GMT)
Vic's mainly a ADV voice over guy, but they got him for this. I'm glad too, he suits Edward well, though it will take some getting used to for some people since he originally was voiced by a girl. Like a majority of people in the original animes before dubbers get them. Also, Al's VA is only 12 in case you can't tell from his voice.
Kirbopher15 - November 9, 2004 01:29 AM (GMT)
Yeah that was pretty obvious XD I actually like it when animes can get actual kids to do VAing, a good quality that Ocean Group has actually :D
Also the second I heard Ed, I could have sworn he was palyed by the guy who did the voice of Leonardo/Trey/Arkana from 4Kids o_O Maybe it IS him unless I'm probably wrong.
Daisoujou - November 9, 2004 01:35 AM (GMT)
Excellent, it was. So says Yoda! Respect is not given, it is earned and they did earn a lot.
-hands over respect-

From WHAT that 4kids did?
I don't see any credits under him with any of those character names so I'd say your probably wrong.
Rikun - November 9, 2004 06:20 AM (GMT)
Heh. Glad to see everyone is liking Full Metal Alchemist. I have high hopes for this series, and believe me new fans you ain't seen nothing yet.
How do I know? I've seen the Japanese episodes up to 42.
Trust me, if you think the Elric brothers are cool, you should get a load of Roy Mustang. And more characters will be coming soon. Some absolutely badass (You should see the Elric brothers' teacher. INSANELY COOL) and some that are hilarious (Oh that Armstrong. You'll get a riot outta him). By the way, expect to see incarnations of the 7 deadly sins. See if you can spot them out. You've met two, and a third is coming. The rest...well you'll just have to wait and see.
To those that worry FMA will become gag oriented, don't worry. This series gets dark FAST. You better not miss an episode, otherwise you're gonna miss out on a lot.
And to those that think this is magic, this ain't magic you're seeing. This is alchemy. This is a science. Unlike magic where mages can create something outta nothing, alchemy requires equal exchange. This theme is gonna stay present within the entire series, so don't you forget it.
Man am I so happy for you guys. You're gonna love FMA if you like this episode already. One more thing you should keep in mind when watching this series: nothing you see is unimportant. And if you think that the Philosopher's Stone will as easy to obtain as your typical cliched magic treasure, you're gonna be FLOORED.
Prismaya - November 9, 2004 06:31 AM (GMT)
Everyone and their dog is using the philosopher's stone as a plotpoint. o_o ~coughHarryPottercough~
I don't watch TV, but I saw the first episode at Otakon prior to the L'arc En Ciel concert. I might start watching it though.
Mr. O.M.A - November 9, 2004 06:49 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm gonna have to pop in the video I taped of it sometime wehn my busy clears up. I'm liking what I'm reading...
Not to mention read the manga as well.
Itachi - November 9, 2004 07:13 AM (GMT)
Geez Rikun, I know quite a bit of that from fansites. :o
Also according to Fangirls, Envy = Most popular deadly sin. >_>

*Goes back to watching random anime DVD's*
I mainly meant how I knew it wouldn't be a goofy thing most the time. XP
Digitalpotato - November 10, 2004 04:38 AM (GMT)
Wow, you guys are all much cooler than I thought. Full Metal Alchemist rules. The dubbing is awesome-Al's voice is better than in the japanese version, because he apparantly sounded like a girl in there. Also, I found the guy who did Richard Moore's voice in there as one of the bystanders crowding Al after he fixed the radio.
EDIT: This is one of those animes where you will be completley lost if you miss one episode? (Like Wolf's Rain and .hack//SIGN) Better get next episode's episode on TiVo's To Do list while I'm at that church retreat all weekend.
The Masochist - November 11, 2004 12:41 AM (GMT)
ya, i like this show, i just wonder why it is'nt as graphic as wolfs rain, (i doubt you will be lost if you miss one episode.) but it is a cool concept, everybody watch or feel my cloudy wrath.
Digitalpotato - November 12, 2004 03:51 AM (GMT)
I don't know about you Masochistm but I missed one episode of Wolf's Rain and was totally lost.
GameCrazed - November 14, 2004 01:10 PM (GMT)
...it's a good, and intersting show...it just doesn't appeal to me at all.
The Masochist - November 14, 2004 01:15 PM (GMT)
Ya! a new episode was on last night and i am part insomniac so i stayed up to see it. It was good, Ed used his arm.
EdwardElric - November 15, 2004 03:26 AM (GMT)
I dunno' Itachi, the first time I saw Envy in the manga I thought he was a girl. And there's a HUGE plot twist about the Philosophers stone.
Wolfs Rain was a good show, but a little to slow. And was I the only one who caught the fact that the ending looked a lot like the beginning.
Kirbopher15 - November 15, 2004 03:29 AM (GMT)
GC- Uh...isn't that kind of an oxymoron?
Ed- The only episde of Wolf's Rain I've enver seen is the first one o.o
