Title: TransFormers Energon?
The Real Eggman - October 26, 2004 09:31 AM (GMT)
Just wondering... has anybody seen that Transformers Energon? Its nowhere near as good as the original Transformers but at least its better than Armada O.o The animation on the Autobots and Deceptiocons, ETC is pretty good too....

Beast Wars = Win. Decent voice acting, great plot, an overall storyline that linked every episode together, plus it had Rattrap and Waspinator, who were both great. It also had the best prime, Optimus Primal, as every other incarnation is a one-sided, flat figure of "virtue". Primal was much more realistic. The series also had Code of the Hero and The Agenda, the two best episodes of Transformers ever. I never cried when Prime died in Transformers the Movie, but I shed a tear when Dinobot snuffed it.
No other series can come close. The G1 cartoon, looking back, is mostly laughable, but worth the time for nostalgias sake. Beast Machines had its good points (The Vehicon Generals), but was mostly very poorly written, and has the worst ending in any Transformers series, ever. Armada is the biggest pile of horseshit in existance. Energon is from the same stable as Armada, and looking at what I've seen thus far of Cybertron, that will be too.
The comics are another matter altogether, though...
To answer your question, Energon is shite. It, like Armada, is a poorly-done piece of cheap anime aimed at flogging toys. No duh, you may cry, but at least you can create a good piece of sales propoganda (Beast Wars) that people who aren't G1 purists can enjoy.

I actually DID like Armada, because it had a good story and great animation. Energon is mostly, what GME says, a 30-minute toy commercial, although every so often it's got its moments.
Grand Master Eastwood - October 26, 2004 10:32 AM (GMT)
Armada? Good animation? HA!
Most of the episodes I caught were typical kiddy anime shite. Reused footage a-go-go!
That and it presented some of the worst episodes in Transformers history... Carnival, anyone? Oh, and that one were the kids and Minicons ran away and beat up Thrust with sticks.
Armada was basically Pokémon with Robots. Energon has decent toys, but is still pretty poor.
Like I said. A western-animated Alternators cartoon would rock...
The Real Eggman - October 26, 2004 01:56 PM (GMT)
Um I apoligise for my ignorance but what is Alternators?
I don't like Armada OR Energon myself... I simply made this topic to find out peoples opinion of it. OH ORIGINAL TRANSFORMERS! HOW I MISS THEE! *Yes I know its out on DVD but I can't be bothred buying it*
Grand Master Eastwood - October 26, 2004 02:28 PM (GMT)
Alternators/BinalTech are a line of Transformers figures that are hyperdetailed, with alt.modes licensed from existing cars (Like Smokescreen being a Subaru Imprezza, Dead End being a Dodge Viper, Grimlock being a Ford Mustang, etc). They're very nice display pieces, but are pretty pricy at £20 each (More if you import).

Do you have any idea of where I can get them? That is... if they're stil available.
Oh and was there ever a video game based on the original Transformers?
Granted there was a PS2 Transformers game... but that felt too much like Armada.
Grand Master Eastwood - October 26, 2004 03:00 PM (GMT)
Eggman - That's because that games WAS an Armada game. It had the Armada cast and Minicons. There's a G1 game on the PS2, but it's Japan exclusive.
Alternators can be picked up mostly online, but Toys R Us have Smokescreen in stock.
The Real Eggman - October 26, 2004 03:24 PM (GMT)
I KNOW that it was an Armada game... but I didn't know that when I went to play it... I liked it, but I'd preffered it to be more like the original..... and whats G1? Is that like the alternators? (Pity my ignorance O.o I'm almost ashamed to call myself a transformers fan... I should burn my shirt and posters! and sell my figures *Original not armada or energon*).
Grand Master Eastwood - October 26, 2004 03:34 PM (GMT)
G1 = Generation 1 = Original Series.
*Slapslapslap.*
The Real Eggman - October 26, 2004 03:40 PM (GMT)
Well excuse me princess... but I can't be expected to remember everything about Transformers... I WAS born in 86 O.o If truth be told I can't even remember how old Transformers IS! GAH I'M ASHAMED!
Grand Master Eastwood - October 26, 2004 03:45 PM (GMT)
It's pretty basic knowledge, as anyone in the fandom tends to know what G1 stands for. If you call yourself a fan, I tend to expect you to know that.
SpeedTH - October 26, 2004 05:04 PM (GMT)
I do agree with you Eastwood, about Beast wars Transformers, the "friendship" or lack therefore of between Rattrap and Dinobot was very comical til the end. Optimus I found had a very realistic sense of leadership, and knew when to make the crappy decisions that only a leader can make.
One classic line I'll always remember.
"Either they'll learn to work together or destroy each other," Rhinox lets off an energon sneeze in the background, "Right now I don't really care which."
Kirbopher15 - October 28, 2004 09:15 PM (GMT)
Well I liked a lot of the voice acting in Armada, and the final episode of Armada had EXTREMLY good, liquid animation, and the fith scene was awesome.
It's not that I don't like the G1 series ( I haven't seen a lot of it ) but I gotta say there were something I didn't like about it too much. I rented the first video of G1 and saw the first 3 episodes, but I thought it was kind of dumb that they IMMEDIATELY just went to Cybertron and started doing things you were instantly supposed to understand, and there were times when it just seemed WAY too much like a kiddy show in itself with the 4Kid-ish puns and the annoying sound FX for when they shot stuff from the guns for instance, so sadly I didn't get too hooked on it.
However, then I saw the Transformers Movie with Unicron, and THAT was a really spectacular piece of work. I could already tell that the movie wasn't going to fit into the tv show storyline like always, but I still found it intriging. I've also spotted many of the DVD boxsets for all 4 season (jesus...4 seasons) So if I have all of those maybe I might like it as much as you EW. still, Armada is one of my favorite aniems, period :D
Grand Master Eastwood - October 28, 2004 09:22 PM (GMT)
I like G1's cartoon simply for nostalgia value. No other reason. However, the voice acting in G1 is magnificent, with Frank Welker and Chris Latta... *Fanboy sigh* Those guys rocked. As great as David Kaye is, and he performs BW Megs perfectly, Franks G1 Megs will forever live on as the TRUE Megatron.
Kirbopher15 - October 28, 2004 09:34 PM (GMT)
Ah yes, I've heard him on a lot of other old cartoons as well, he's pretty funny XD
Also, I'm sure you noticed that the old VA for Optimus (sorry, I don't know his name) is now the announcer guy for Cartoon Network's Toonami. THAT seriously freaked me out when heard what Prime sounded like in G1 @.@
and sorry if this hurts, but G1 Starscream's VA....(shoots self) Micheal Dobson is MUCH funnier to me...
"MEGATROOON! WHHHHYYYY!!!!!!!"
-Starscream

Gah. What happened to all the GOOD transformer series... Beast wars and the like. That was like, a daily watch for me when the aired it on CN. Rattrap yo.
Energon is just downright goofy from what I saw of it. "GASP. TRANSFORMERS ARE IN CG WHILE EVERYTHING ELSE IS NOT" It's wierd and such.
Kirbopher15 - October 28, 2004 10:24 PM (GMT)
Beast Wars was...ok. I actually used to watcht hat early in the morning for a while. I would have gotten a bit more into that too if I had seen more of it.
