Alright. I for one have never seen One Piece, and my good judgement is telling me to steer clear of the dub currently airing on the Fox Box. However, I did get a good comparison of the original opening and THIS travesty:

One Piece Opening: Hacked and Slashed into MANY Pieces!

You think that's painful? From what I understand, One Piece aired a dubbed version of the original opening on the Fox Box's premiere weekend. That's right. The little kiddies and the fans got a taste of what the original opening was like, only to be treated to an entirely new remix of an opening. As far as I'm concerned, this is adding insult to injury. A HUGE Eff You to the original fans.

Let's hope that 4Kids doesn't set up a booth at a con anytime soon. They wouldn't last 5 minutes before fans tear them apart.

Here's just my view of what would happen though.

I can see it now... in 4kids version Naruto's favorite food would be cheeseburgers and his name would be changed to Nick. Sasuke would be changed to Sammy and Sakura would be changed to Sarah and Kakashi? He'd be changed into Teacher Carl

Gai would probably be the only one who wouldn't get much of a change. He'd just be called Mighty Guy

Neji would become Nigel and Hinata would be changed to Heather or something. Oh and Neji would have a british accent sort of like what they did to Tao Ren in Shaman King.

but that's not the worst part Gaara would be turned into Gary a scotsman stereotype with a scottish accent

Also Itachi would be changed to IAN. He would not have annihalated his clan oh no. He would have just BEAT them up and thus making them hide in humiliation and Sasuke wouldn't want to kill Itachi he'd just want to beat him up for disgracing the clan.

Oh and Orochimaru would be turned into Evil Oslo master of the eyeshadow of DOOM! who would be voiced by Eric Stuart and sound more campy than James from pokemon and Pegasus from Yugioh COMBINED!

From what I can tell One Piece has already been ripped apart by 4kids. The whole pirate stereotype comes to mind. I've heard a lot of people claiming stuff about that.

Also with what else I hear it's going to be even more heavily edited than normal when 4kids PROMISED that they wouldn't change everything.

That and there's also the amount of blood, "Damnit" and also the whole ya know, Jiraiya character. Which I can't believe you didn't mention. The Naruto episodes would end up being 10 minutes long each if they got it. Worst case scenario I see, Funimation getting it. Best case, ADV or VIZ.

Tsunade - Tammy. Her chest will scar children forever, so it will always be edited to look like she's holding two garbage can lids in front of her chest.

Jiraiya - He'll be Shimmy Jimmy or something. Something that just makes him loud and FUN, while he makes awesome jokes about the weather. He's an aspiring stand-up commedian.

I guess that's all it but also about One Piece with everything in that they'll have to cut out most of the Arlong arc, the crocodile fight, and so forth.

Uhhh... Even if they DO Get it (Which they HAVENT it's not on the 4Kids site), it won't matter. People will keep fan subbing the episodes since we all know 4Kids butchers every show with even remotely adult themes they get. *Read the "Hidden episode" of Pokemon* As said before, if they get it, Half the story will be butchered. Cause of the following,
a) Sexy No Jutsu; It's a common thing used in the first few episodes. Also later on when Jiraiya shows up.
B) The blood. Blood is common in Naruto, and we ALL know 4Kids policy on blood is, "OFUX BLOOD, MUST CUT OUT OF SCENE". Thus, Summoning would either involve a cut of the skin that doesn't bleed, or just would get butchered.
c) Gaara. Do I even NEED to explain why this would be a problem? Desert Coffin + Desert Graveyard. Nuff' said for anyone who's a actual fan of Naruto.

I could go on to more reason's why the episodes would literally be 5-8 minutes shorter each if 4Kids got thier grubby little, "Censor freaking EVERYTHING" hands on it. But we are trialing off topic.

Yes, true, Gaara would be a problem... unless they decide to fix it. Becasue in the new, better version of Naruto (In which the main character is indeed called Nicky and there is never any explanation as to what this Naruto is), Gaara will be Gary the the stereotypical scottish person (As said before)... who, with his powerful attacks, Sandy Puddle and Sandy Hug will hug all the people he sees, and he will be tragic because he can't touch people becasue he has that disease in which you get blisters whenever you touch someone) YES! Major points with the parents, since they like series with disabled kids in any way or shape), so he get's all clingy with people with his sand instead of his hands. It's the only way he can have contact with another human being, you see. And Shukaaku will be his enchanted Racoon-friend who talks with a street-accent and protects him all the time. They probably make up an entire excuse for the fight between Gamatutsa and Shuukaku as well. Oh the joy. Oh the rapture. Oh the butt-rape.

Anyways yeah One Piece so far has been pretty much ruined from what I've heard. I'm just surprised they kept the name Luffy. I was thinking that they'd call him Rufi or somehow mix the names up and call him Monkey throughout the series.

However, if ADV get's it. It'll be just as good seeing as how we'd get the uncut DVD's.

And yeah, I wish ADV or VIZ dubbed One Piece and didn't let 4kids get their hands on Shaman King. The Shaman King manga's rated "T" for Teenagers, (No this isn't some video game!) and 4kids made it into a kid's show. Granted, some teenagers can still watch it, but I bet VIZ or ADV wouldn't have made it into a kid's cartoon like what 4kids did.

*sigh* Honestly, I forsee in the near future, a revolt of all true anime fnas against Funimation and 4Kids... Yes... slaughter their CEO's, burn their buildings, kill their... ok, a bit of a rant, but I wouldn't be surprised if that happens. Nothing makes by blood boil like seeing a good anime get butchered by bad dubbers... I own a few Naruto DVDs and One Peice DVDs, so if "they" get to em, I can always watch the subtitled ones on my DVDs! ^^

Well, never seen the opening, and never will. Best thing about that opening is how easy it is to AVOID it.

Anyway, I saw the third episode only so far.

It's not bad, but not that great either. The VAs are somewhat decent (Zolo's VA fits him well.), save for Luffy's, though.

And just remove the top mast of where Zorro... oops. I mean ZOLO is tied up. Oh yeah, the EEEEEVVIIIIIL cross! Remove that, why don'tcha.
And of course the marine... oops again. The NAVY runs around with Super Soakers, while Helmeppo has a sick hybrid between a hammer and a spring. Yes, I can totally see the point.

Conclusion: 4kids is a bunch of effing sissy idiots, so afraid of their own shadow that they feel the need to censor their series. Seriously, the violence is PART of One Piece. One Piece has such a spirit that not many animes has, and 4kids removed it ( and that horrible theme song doesn't make it better ). Seriously, they even claim that pirates drink water instead of rum...
The ONLY reason they did this was to milk money from desperate kiddos that likes One Piece.

If 4kids are that afraid of violence, DON'T FRICKING PURCHASE EPISODES OF A SERIE THAT IS MAINLY ACTION, FIGHTING AND VIOLENCE! THey even edited some of the JOKES!

Why you ask? Because I found the media necessary to compare the One Piece intros to!

This is the intro that originally aired in Japan. And although I know this series has multiple intros, this is the one that will be compared to the American intros.

The premiere US Intro for One Piece
This is the intro that aired during the FoxBox's premiere weekend. And basically, this works like a pilot episode of a series. As you can see, nothing much has changed. Same music, English lyrics. This intro fooled many people into thinking that it would be the official US intro for the show in the upcoming season. Boy were they wrong.

And now it comes to THIS abomination of a theme. This is only an Mp3, but I think it's all you'll need to hear. There's nothing more to the intro than just random clips from the anime. Standard 4Kids hackjob. The song? Well....I'll let you speak for yourselves on this one. Why 4Kids would allow such a horrible theme song to pass when the priemere theme was perfectly fine is beyond me. Sometimes I wonder what kind of boneheads run the studio.

So anyways, I think that'll do. Brace yourselves for a serious mindtrip, because you won't believe your ears.

Considering that the Japanese translation of the opening might as well be the same as the English in the first cut, I'd like to assume that might have been more well recieved than the "Homie-G on the Scene" version :P

My guess as to why we were subjected to the GANGSAT RAP? The other opening, as is most anime openings in Japan, was almost 2 minutes long. Most dubbers have a habit of cutting intros down into 30 seconds at times.

Unless they come out with them on DVD, and they show the full thing. For tv, they like to cut them down so that they don't take up as much time as a japanese one would...

...ok I think this would be a bad time to say that I actually DON'T hate the openings that 4Kids give to a lot of their animes (trampled) but that doesn't mean I don't like the original ones better (the original openings from PKMN and YGO are VERY good songs) But I liked some of the opening songs from english PKMN, and the ones from Shaman King, Sonic X, One Piece, F-Zero and the season 2 YGO opening (I like that music a lot for some reason...) and it still doesn't exclude the fact that they music in the actual shows are almost exactly the same in EVERY one of them.
