Title: Dark Days profile thread.

Alastor Blackrose - April 12, 2009 03:41 AM (GMT)
Couldn't think of a better title for the RP so I went with Dark Days.

It's 1971 in America. The Nixon administration is riding high and the summer of love and its ideals are starting to show signs of burning out. A doctor in the field of medical science by the name of Dr. James Breslin is credited and praised for discovering a chemical that could alter the structure of DNA and the brain within humans, giving them unnatural physical abilities and mental thought. The government tests this chemical on a number of different animals and the signs are very promising, with the animals showing change in a matter of a week. Some, however, show no signs of change at all, their bodies completely unaffected. It is discovered that have a molecular structure that makes them immune to the chemical.
In a very hasty and controversial decision that Breslin strongly opposed, they plan to secretly introduce it into the crop, meat and water supply to strengthen the population, especially potential military prospects. Within a matter of a week, the plan, called the Better Days project, is inacted and mobilized, introducing the chemical into the water supply, the crops and the animal's food supply following suit. The farmers are kept quiet with bribes and fear of retaliation.
Another week passes. As the population show the very same signs of change that the animals did, the original test subjects begin to take a turn for the worst. While the animals showed signs of super strength, agility and intelligence, they all began to mutate physically and mentally. Most became deformed in one way or another. For example, some had muscles that grew to enormous sizes, far past what was originally projected; some became so thin that they lost any muscle mass that they had, and some began to lose body parts one by one. Others lost their intelligence, becoming nearly brain dead, hulking idiots driven by survival instincts. Some simply died from the chemical killing their bodies. Finally, all the animals begin to become driven by cannibalism, first going after the chemically unaffected in an organized, pack-like manner. Once those are gone, they began to turn on each other in a violent, brutal fashion.
Dr. Breslin's organization sees this and fears the worst, namely that the population will soon mutate in the same manner as the animals did. His organization quickly begins to work on a chemical compound that will reverse the effects of the original chemical. As he plans to make an announcement to the public stating what has happened and what was introduced, he is assassinated along with any scientists that planned to follow his lead by the government who refuse to let the public find out about their mishap.
It becomes too late to introduce a vaccine before the chemical structure begins to mutate the population. It works much faster than on most animals and the mutations are much, much worse. The order of society is destroyed as it becomes complete anarchy and chaos as the majority of the population is over-run by blood thirsty, horrific, cannibalistic, angry mutations.
However, just like the animals before them, there is a small but still significant number of humans left completely unaffected by the chemical was introduced. The mutations quickly realize this and begin to organize themselves to find the remaining humans and either destroy them completely or use them as livestock for food.
Within three months, the number of unaffected humans quickly begins to shrink. Most attempt to organize into small groups to fight back or go into hiding completely, if not to simply survive a little longer.

-----------------------------

Here's where you, the player, comes in. You can choose to a survivor or a mutant. Character sheets are pretty standard: name, age, sex, appearence, personality, short backstory, whether you're in the government or not (this is actually important) character abilities, weapons (if any). I'll deem whether or not the last two are acceptable or need to be changed or balanced out. I want the personality to be detailed so I know what kind of person they are around others.

With the mutants, same character sheet, but you're generally going to be stronger than the humans. However it's going to be balanced out by the fact that you're deformed in some other area. As with the humans, pick whatever abilities and weapons you want as long as it's plausible.

Sorry if you think the story line is crap. I needed something and I wrote it on the spot.

Storm - April 12, 2009 05:25 AM (GMT)
Name: Avery Livingston

Is a: Survivor

Age: 28

Sex: Male

Appearance: Avery has short and slick golden hair and bright-blue eyes. He is 5'8" tall and lean-built, which means more muscles and less fat. His shirt is dark red and cuffed at the end of his sleeves, but he has them rolled up to his elbows. He is also wearing a brown vest over the shirt. His pants are black and slightly wide at the end of the pant-legs. His black belt has a yin-yang symbol in the middle, except the colors are gold and dark purple. He looks quite goofy when he’s happy, but when he’s serious, he definitely looks dangerous.

Personality: Avery think's he's Mr. Badass when really he's just a cocky twit who doesn't know shit about shit. He has his nice moments, and can sometimes come up with some good plans, but primarily he's just an idiot. But when he’s angry, watch out.

Abilities: Runs fairly fast, and he is stronger than normal people. He's pretty strong compared to normal humans and he is also a pretty good shot with a gun.

Weapons: Heckler & Koch MP5

Story: Avery was in one of the first cities that were introduced with the mutation in their crops and supplies. He and several of his friends were some of the few to not be effected, finding that they’re immune like those few animals. Avery and his friends had set out to try and find those survivors in their town, but they eventually began to run into those infected mutants. After many run-ins, he is the only one left of the group.

He is good-natured and acts like a idiot. A lot. But after losing all of his friends, he had become just a little bit more cautious. Meaning sometimes, he could shoot first and ask questions later. He is set out to find out exactly what has happened, because nature didn’t do this on purpose. He’ll get to the bottom of this, even if he has to fight his way through an army of mutants. Perhaps carefully fighting his way through, but still. His strong sense of justice won’t let him turn a blind eye to this paradox.
While doing this, he wonders from town and city to town and city, hoping to find survivors. And looking for those clues of what exactly had happened.

(There, is that fixed enough?)

Alastor Blackrose - April 12, 2009 04:10 PM (GMT)
On an aside, I should probably have mentioned this:

[10:05] Professor Venge: Joining as a survivor.
[10:05] Professor Venge: ..
[10:05] Professor Venge: If we die do we become infected?
[10:06] Sov Blackrose: If you die, you're dead. The mutants aren't undead.
[10:07] Sov Blackrose: You can be infected while you're alive and mutate.
[10:07] Sov Blackrose: But if you die, that character isn't coming back.

So if you don't want your character to die, don't be an idiot.

Also, I guess personality is optional in the character sheet since it will just show up when you're playing.

Venge - April 12, 2009 04:32 PM (GMT)
Call the RP "The Better Days Project," >:C

Name: Derek "Venge" Dunn

SURVIVOR OR INFECTED: Survivor

Age: 17

Sex: Male

Appearance:
Guy in the red. Without the arm socks. Tape around his hands to guard against recoil from his weapon.

Personality: You'll see.

Abilities: A stronger sense of will, can drive, knows how to shoot a gun, and can swing a bat with the best of them.

Weapons: Metal Baseball Bat

Story: Whether it was from weird genes or normal ones, Derek was still kicken as a human. Through a series of close encounters and lucky dodges, Derek had survived a good amount of time in the mutated states of America. He was with friends, trying to make it through each day any way they could. He had with him his trusty metal bat from his years in little league baseball, that had beaten up quite a few mutants in his time. He's been with his friends, moving from house to house, town to town, searching for others to band together to fight the infection.

Ties to government: Derek is a normal citizen, and isn't in the government at all.

Linken Rocuta - April 14, 2009 11:01 AM (GMT)
Okay so. I DO plan on making a sheet, and I will be doing it in this same post. However I feel the need to point out two things to my fellow RPers...

A. This is 1970's. If we want this to be an all-proper Role Play, we need to PLAY the ROLE. Having characters that are... 19 and 17... Surviving for MONTHS, let alone weeks on their own... Is just hard to believe, IMO. If super mutants were after me? I know I'd shit my pants. Especially if I walked around with a goatee, gray hair, and dark green streaks. Now... Derek's character? Surprisingly believable, as his clothes are very.... Hippy-esque. But I won't judge character appearance, since it's not my place. It's the GM's.

B. HOWEVER! I will challenge the weapons being used. For instance... Metal bats? Good, IMO. They were introduced in the early 70's, and popular among the youth. That's what actually makes Derek's character plausible to me, yknow? He FITS the role. Now... A 19 year old using a fucking gun from Perfect Dark? Yeah, no. This ain't Perfect Dark. It's the fucking 70's in America. And WHERE in America? We're not even sure at this time.

Now I don't mean to be a prick, Storm..... No, actually? I do. I'm gonna be a prick. Change your fucking character to fit the fucking role. This isn't InuYasha Kenshin Z: The Chronicles of Vamp Kid. If you're gonna be a 19 year old in 1970's America? BE A FUCKING 19 YEAR OLD KID IN 1970'S AMERICA! You smoke pot, and you listen to shitty music because you were probably too young to attend Woodstock and your parents hate that hippie shit and now you're listening to music from the 50's which all your friends make fun of you for but in the future(If you survive to see it), you'll have kids that go "Hey Dad we just saw Grease and it was amazing and we really like the music you listen to now. :D"

In case it hasn't gotten through yet, here's the tl;dr

Storm. Change your fucking character, you God damn weeaboo. This isn't an Animu RP where we use over powered FICTIONAL weapons from Vidya in the future.

This is 1970's America where we're fighting Vietnamese scum for NO RAISIN AT ALL, and now most of our population has been deteriorated by Mutants. For all we know? It's spread across the waters, and has gotten to the rest of the world by now. Three months of running and hiding is a long time. But I'll leave that all up to Alice.

And now? Now I make my character.

Name: Jessie "Sulley" Sullivan

SURVIVOR OR INFECTED: Survivor

Age: 27

Sex: Male

Appearance: Your Average Joe

Personality: Character Development my friends.

Abilities: Can Pilot a Plane, Drive a Car, and handle most military and standard-issue fire arms.

Weapons: A Colt .45 Handgun, you may determine how many bullets are in it.

Story: Jessie was, once-upon-a-time, a member of the US Air Force. He was dishonorably discharged from the Military upon failing to meet a task that he felt unbearable to complete, costing the lives of every Dog in his squad, save for himself. Jessie found himself adapting well to his "new" life in the good ol' US. He had joined quite a few anti-war groups, began listening to music that spoke of peace on a daily basis, and peacefully left all reminders and skeletons originating from his time in the military in his closet, both figuratively and literally.

When the mutations truly became noticeable, it was a heart wrenching experience to say the least. At first, he prayed that the puss filled boils that rested upon his lover's entire body were just the nasty side effects of some allergy or rash. "We rarely eat out..." he thought to himself, holding her hand as her eyes faded and her mouth lay agape. It was only when he found himself fishing through his closet once again, digging up the memories in the form of a Colt .45 Handgun, his own personal fire arm, that he found himself realizing it wasn't just a rash. Even then, it was truly not believable until he found himself pinned on the ground under his once limp lover's arms, now strong and fierce. It was only TRULY when he lay next to his former lover, staring in to her cold eyes once more, and then the hole he had put in her head as she attempted to rip him apart limb by limb, that he realized it was more than just a rash. This was more than just an accident, or a mistake. More than something over-looked.

This was the work of The Good Ol' US Government.

Proof wasn't what he needed. No one was left for him to prove it too anyway. It was revenge perhaps that fueled him for three agonizing months, as he hid in cramped spaces with little to no food or any means of personal enjoyment. Moving from house to house, day by day. Hiding in basements, attics, cellars and even under porches when there was no where else to hide. For days at a time, where even the sound of his own stomach may have betrayed him, and given him away.

An event like this would surely damage any normal citizen, yes. But to break broken glass is a void effort, and this pain was not new to him. The pain of hunger, sleep deprivation, and life threatening moments. Anxiety coursing through his body every minute of every day. It was a feeling he knew all too well. This was more than just a rash, or an accident by far.

This was War.

Ties to government: Dishonorably Discharged member of The United States Air Force, possible knowledge of safe houses, bunkers, or military outposts across the city/state/country.

I hope that's good enough.

Thank you. I didn't really know how to tell him, but yeah, Nick, change your character. Sorry. :| That's half the reason of why I chose the 70's - so you can't be the typical weeaboo, mary-sue faggot who's used to violence and chaos on a mass scale. This is the 70's, people then did NOT look like your character and were NOT used to violence.

As for your character, Mikey? Good jorb, you have the best so far.

Ta Mere - April 14, 2009 05:52 PM (GMT)
Name: Jonathan "Blue"(Real name Johann Blauvelt, immigrated to the Americas circa 1955)

SURVIVOR OR INFECTED: Survivor

Age: 51

Sex: Male

Appearance: 5'6 caucasian male, rather large for a man of his age. Skin gives off a glossy shine in the sun(If he were so daring to go out there), hair is a scraggly yet short cut blonde hue with dabbles of stress grays making their way into those golden fields the young boy was proud of. Right eye is a light blue color, bordering on Robin's Egg in hue. The left is permanently sealed close, a large gash coming down from his brow to the cheek.

Clothing is a rather bloodied and dirt-trodden plaid collared shirt, the blue and white smattered with splotches of dark brown and crimson. Pants are an equally scruffy pair of denim jeans, the blood of who-knows-what pock marking the dark blue.

Shoes could be speculated to what used to be military-grade boots, the black leather scuffed and almost unrecognizable for what they used to be.

Personality: Figure it out as it goes along boys and girls.

Abilities: Bilingual, can drive a car, handles small arms(no automatic weaponry).

Weapons: P08 Luger

Story: Born shortly after Adolph Hitler's rise to power in the twentieth century, the young lad known as Johann Blauvelt knew only two things growing up within the fascist Germany that many Americans would come to think of as "Evil" or "Inhuman". The first of these tenets was that those who were of fair skin, blue eyed, and blonde were the "Arayn" race, as the Führer often referred to them as. The second was that all other people, whether they be Gypsy, or Negro, or Jew were inferior to the Arayns, regardless of the content of character they held.

As a member of such a proud race, Johann was quickly inducted into the Hitler-Jugend come his tenth birthday. Such an honor, it was! To serve The Leader and his country! But, as with all lessons of life which come and go, some must be learned harshly and with penalty.

Germany had fallen, his country had lost the Second Great War. Such a cruel blow to the young man's patriotism who had so willingly given up all he knew to faithfully serve The Leader and rid the world of all those who were inferior to them. Then, the worst happened. An american soldier, fresh from what could be speculated the midwest saw a young Johann dressing himself in what would've been his proud regalia as a soldier of the Third Reich. Taking the opportunity as if it had been a blessing by God, the American cut Johann's face in a failed lethal move to his face with the military issued knife that the proud USA army had issued him.

Driven by instinct and vengeance more than simple human logic, Johann gunned the young soldier down with a Parabellum, the shots attracting more and more of the Americans before the situation became surrender or die. Post-surrender, Johann hid himself from the rest of the world, becoming a recluse to his country and family.

Around 1954 - 1955, Blauvelt traveled to the fabled "Land of Opportunity", the homeland of his enemies, and his father's enemies as a more... philosophical man.
The old hatreds still burned for the negro, gypsy, and jew, but now they were nothing more than smoldering cinders compared to the proud pyre that flourished during "WW2".

Making his life as a watch repairman, Johann, now renamed Johnathan lived a much simpler life. America prospered, and he watched silently and bitterly as the "colored" peoples took their rights up so happily when their time came, the martyred Dr. King Jr helping their cause. The epidemic, however, had surprised him. Never had the thoughts of a superior race to the Arayns traversed his mind. But the true question remained as he scavenged for life during the hard weeks.

Would these seemingly stupid enemies carry the same ignorant arrogance as this once-proud Hitler Youth and his forefathers?

Veeeeerryy good.

Alastor Blackrose - April 15, 2009 04:41 AM (GMT)
Update - I should have mentioned this earlier, but characters can only be infected by the mutants if they're bitten, so it's not like if you get scratched in a battle or something you're automatically turning into a mutant. Also, the chemical gene is already in your body, so it will take more than one bite to turn your character into a mutant.

[22:43] Luna Eliza Moona: Cause I don't like how in zombie movies how, if you get so much as a nibble taken from you, you're fucked.
[22:43] Linken062478: Yeah. >_>
[22:43] Luna Eliza Moona: So while it is a threat in this RP, you probably have a greater chance of actually dying.
[22:43] Linken062478: Fucking hated that.
[22:43] Linken062478: Oh joy.
[22:44] Luna Eliza Moona: Unless I decide to be a dick.

Each one dieing by different means, his friend Paul dieing at the hands of a group that seemed to be a little to organized to be slothful nimrods. Julie dieing by a sneak attack from a slightly lankier one. And his best friend Mitch was killed by a trap that was laid out specifically for him. He knew that Nature would not be crafty in such ways. If it wanted to it would have simply wiped us out too. Clearly meaning someone; or something was behind this. He's always had a sense for justice, by any means necassary, be it killing somebody or sacrificing someone for the good of others. Ever since his friends died, he's wandered from town to town in hopes of finding a clue as to what's caused this horrible event.

I see almost no difference. I need an appearance, a better personality or just eliminate it all together and a better bio. If you don't fix your character and post by tonight I'm going to go ahead and move forward anyway.

Or just happens to be a stupidly lucky man when it comes to the black market.

Who knows and/or cares.

Guess WHO THE FUCK just got their internet back?

This kid.

Name: Allison Cray, or Sally "Suck-you-bus" Sue
Age:26
Sex:Female
Appearance: Think of a life-sized barbie doll with skank clothes and crazy 70s hair
Personality: Allison tends to change her personality to suit her current employer(s), though when not on the job, she's a very sweet, kind person, though easily incensed and she has a tendency to want to be independent.

Backstory: She was born on a farm in Alabama, but ran away from home with a visiting city boy she fell in love with. He took her to New York, then left her on the street. After a shoplifting a few times, she decided to sell herself for money. She found a pimp and started doing her job. She made quite a bit of money and eventually earned herself a highstanding with Big Daddy B Dooliddle Dumpster, or something, and he gave her more freedom, and treated her kind of like a little sister. That he sells into prostitution. BUT, when the infection broke out, he tried to save her and his business. Eventually, most of Big Daddy B Dooliddle Dumpster's possey turned, and were killed. Before Big Daddy B Dooliddle Dumpster changed, he gave Allison his gun and she killed him. For a week, Allison has been living on her own in an abandoned hotel, hiding from infected and trying to get rescue.

Character Abilities: She's great in bed. Like, really great. She's like a panther, but sexier.
Weapons:These

The Backstory is crap but whatever. Did they even have pimps in the 70s?

I'm thinking YES.

Alastor Blackrose - April 18, 2009 02:45 AM (GMT)
I... I don't know what to say to this. Normally no, but this is too lulzy to pass up, so I think you're in. :;D:

But just to let you know, this RP IS serious business, so I need a serious attitude.

0ctane - April 18, 2009 02:53 AM (GMT)
I don't know what to name a pimp! And Sall Suck-You-Bus is a completely legitimate prostitute pseudonym! And that is a completely accurate description of her body and face type!

Prostitutes are the most serious shit ever!

Name: Terri Jewelz

You Are: An survivor

Age: Twenty-five [25]

Sex: Female

Appearance: Terri has long brown hair pulled-back in a high ponytail, with dark brown eyes to match. She is about 5"7' in height and slender, making her quite agile. She wears a purple tie-dye shirt tucked-in, and a pair of bell-bottom blue-jeans, a belt wrapped tight around to avoid the situation of her shirt getting loose and caught on something. Sometimes, she wears a purple-tinted sun-glasses for the brightness of the sun more than for looks.

Personality: Terri is quite a complex person at times, for the fact that she doesn't know when to be serious or when to be light-hearten in situations that requires either or even both. In most part, she never tries to take sides, and usually ends up being the person in the middle.

Abilities: Terri is empathic to many things, even a little bit to presence. She also has leg muscles to jump across distances than most people, though her speed is only slightly above average. But her stamina is poor.

Weapons: A 6' bladed-dagger with saw-edges and a Winchester double rifle.

Bio/History: Terri lived in one of the cities that hadn't been one of the first to be exposed to the experimental project. As it became introduced to her home city, the news of mutants had already began to become public, with or without the government's help. Her family had been some of the first in the city to become mutants, and now she is on the run with other survivors. She was somehow immune to the mutated strain. Realizing that the government is hiding the crucial evidence of what caused all of this, she is trying to access the information, one way or another.
On her own because of the survivors that she was with took residence in the mountains, she continues to seek out other people who aren't mutated or dead.

Alastor Blackrose - April 18, 2009 05:59 AM (GMT)
