Title: Battle of hasting hills.

MYKE - December 11, 2008 05:35 AM (GMT)
Marching....That was the sound heard for miles as two mighty armies marched to meet each other on the battle field. On one side rode the Army of the mighty Diablon empire, soldiers who will fight hard to appease their ruler, who is simply known as "Venge".
Coming from the west, hailing from the mighty Yorian Reich, the Yorian 512th Regiment, mighty warriors who will do anything to take victory today. The armies meet in a open field, surrounded by tree's, each side is garrisoned with 10,000 men.
20,000 men would go to battle, only the gods will decide how many leave alive.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Octavius surveyed the soon-to-be battlefield in front of him, he kept hidden in the woods to avoid attracting arrow fire from a enemy scout. He squinted in a fetal attempt to see through the fog that was hiding his enemy in their side of the woods, the very same fog that was masking his forces from the enemy as well.
He knew the risks of this battle, if he advanced his infantry too soon, the enemy archers would cut them down, he would need to find a way to draw the enemy out of their hiding place. After surveying the battlefield, Octavius rode his way back to his main force.
In his command he controlled.
7000 Infantry, who wore chest plates that stopped at the shoulders, and Morions on their heads, would play a major role in this battle, armed with either Long swords or battle axes, and tower shields, the infantry would do most of the killing in this battle.

2000 archers who would contentiously harass the enemy during the battle, they wore leather armor to keep their movement unhindered, and where armed with Yeomen bows and shortswords.

800 Calvary who wore heavy armor and helmets welded to look like demons, simply to demoralize the enemy. they where each armed with charge lances and long swords.

And 200 trebuchets, that would mercilessly pound the enemy line into submission.

General Octavius wore silver armor, similiar to the armor that the infantry wore, although marked with his family's coat of arms, he was armed with a normal general's sword and rode a armored horse into battle.

The beating of the war drum, the sound of footsteps stepping in line, making it seem as though they were 8000 strong, it was a horrid sound really, it sounded, like death. There was no real stealth used in their movement, more of a precise intimidation tactic. The morning fog shrouded their actual men, but their marching and drumming could be heard. As they got closer to the outskirts of the forest, the full forces could be heard. They weren't secretive, they didn't have to be.

As the inital troops stepped into the open area, it looked like they were in some type of pyramid formation, but as more came out, it was obvious it was a gigantic piercing arrow. The men who made up this formation were wearing black plate mail, with helmets that had one large cleaver looking thing that came from the middle part of the forehead, and went to the back of the helm, and on the edge of the cleaver in the back, a longer white silk cloth came off of it, depicting on it, skulls, a different number for each. This wasn't known to many, but the skull meant how many kills they had. The one in the center of the arrow? Had two ribbons, one completely full, the other getting close. They carried tower shields that the men on the right side of the arrow held to their left, the ones on the left held them to their right. The one facing the center, had a special kind of armor on, that looked layered, specifically designed to break arrows as they tried to hit him. These men were using lances, and they each had a longsword on their back as well.

Inside the arrow, were, if you could get at a special angle to see them, were less heavily outfitted archers, who only wore black chain mail, with the Diablon symbol on their tabards. They used longbows, their and all of their ranges were hardly matched by most armys. Some, at special lengths on either side, were carrying large wooden walls, that had sharp edges on the bottom, to stick into the ground.

Inside the archers that made up the inner part of this arrow, were two large wooden boxes (roughly 50ft long by 30ft wide), on wooden wheels, that were being pulled by about 20-30 men, all outfitted in black armor, much like the archers, but most of them seemed stronger than them, and they had on polearm's on their backs, and short swords on their sides.

At the end of the arrow, there formed another one going the opposite way, to effectively make a diamond. This had the same formation as the one above it, so there is no need to explain it again.

Octavius examined the enemy formation. He knew this couldn't be it, the enemy center must have been reinforced.

The general waved his artillery captain. The soldier nodded and gave the signal.
One after another the Trebuchets began to fire. sending rocks into the enemy's advance.
And with another wave of his hand, the archer captain nodded.

"ARCHERS! FIRE!"
The 2000 archers aimed their bows into the air and fired, sending death down upon the enemy. Octavius aloud his artillery and archers to continue the skirmish, leaving the woods would be leaving crucial cover aswell. The Enemy would either have to advance through the missles, or retreat. the choice was theirs to make.

As the battle had finally begun, so did the music from the opposing side. Osculating from what it seemed to be all parts of the forests, the beating of drums, and the flare of trumpets started to pick up. The playing got so loud, it was hard to hear communications between one person to the other.

As for the rocks and arrows, they hit some of the marks they intended to. Archers fell to the ground, bludgeoned by rocks, and some impaled by arrows. The infantry around the outskirts of the diamond blocked most of the shots with their tower shields, and some of their armor made the arrows useless. A few were hit in the legs, but it seemed to do little to their resolve, as they marched forward. In fact, no ones resolve had been even the slightest bit tampered.

The music dropped suddenly, for the sound of a slinging to make it's way into the ears of the opposing general. This sling, was from trebuchets, and from all over the forest, came hurling flaming rocks, headed straight for the area the arrows had came from. The infantry was a pull so the enemy could attack, and so the Diablon's trebuchet's wouldn't shoot into nothing.

As for the archers and people inside the formation, their movements were not stopped, however the people carrying the walls moved up to the frontal areas, and with help from the some of the other archers inside the formation, they tilted the walls in a 45 degree angle. This was, to block the arrows. The walls collectivly protected a good amout of the remaining people.

Speaking of which, the opposing archer team had given away their position. The archers inside the formation started to shoot back, lobbing their shots over the walls, and some that were back far enough, just shooting with a slight curve. The shots were fired after the flaming rocks came down, hopefully to be able to get through more of the trees.

They never stopped moving, even treading over dead if they had to.
