Title: We must maintain some dignity while on the job
Description: Yet it seems that many people do not
Avi - September 13, 2008 07:48 PM (GMT)
Ya know, when you see someone post about their dad getting canned for straight out refusing to work with someone who isn't hurting anything and then they proceed to talk about how they're going to try and date someone that they are training at their own job, you are left questioning what this world has come to.
There is a right and a wrong way to handle yourself at work. You must be professional and courteous. That means you maintain a friendly business-like relationship with your co-workers, you do not date them, you do not slander them, you do not gossip, you do not swear, you do not act disrespectful. People who do not follow these standards are undignified, undeserving of respect, and do not deserve to have a job.
Ta Mere - September 13, 2008 08:44 PM (GMT)
Professionalism and courtesy are givens at the job site, but if there's a certain instigator, whether they be a supervisor who constantly proves themselves to be a dick; Or whatever else, they do not merit respect.
Hell, the said supervisor for the inventory crew said that he wouldn't care if this one quit to another crew member, yet happen to be one of the highest producing counters on the team. You really think a person like that merits respect off the job site?
Avi - September 13, 2008 09:13 PM (GMT)
What you do off the job is unimportant when you are working as long as it does not effect the quality of your work. Whether you like or dislike anyone at work is unimportant as long as you remain respectful while at work so that work goes smoothly.

It's stuff like this that's fucking up my education right now.
I live in a really small town, with only 17 kids in my entire grade. Legally, my school needs at least 13 people in a class to run it. We don't tend to agree on classes, so most of us are left out.
But they have a "Distance Education" which is where you get sent a package of work, you do it, mail it back, wait for next one.
Anyways, I signed up for three of these packages (Chemistry 11, Physics 12, Math 12) two weeks ago. I still haven't gotten it. My Vice Principal is pissed at how it's being run, because apparently? Everyone in there hates eachother, and there are so many internal squabbles that some people refuse to work together. And guess who this is fucking hurting?
That's right, the grade 12 student who needs those classes to fucking graduate.
-Apparently sometime this week there was a major flame war at the distance education place and teachers went home crying.

I always remain respectful, but hell if he's going to disrespect me in front of several district and store managers of the grocery chain. That right there crosses the line.
The quality of the work isn't affected for this one, but it does happen for other people in the crew, who pretty much only use the long hours of the stores as a way of milking pay. Why they haven't been fired is beyond me.

There's always a way to report those sort of people. It's best use official channels so as to decrease the risk of you losing your job.

Well, both myself and other crew members have tried complaining to the corporate office. Hell, even a district manager complained about his unprofessional demeanor. The only reason why he still works for the company is because they're unable to find a replacement, and the fact that the 15-passenger van is paid for by him.

If all else fails, sabotage him outside of work in such a way that you cannot be implicated.

Oh don't worry, his girlfriend already gets into so many fights with him it's unbelieveable.
Avi - September 13, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
Not good enough. You should stab him.

Now now, that'd be murder. Though he's already afraid i'd stab him in his sleep when we were in a hotel :D

Some of you should try your hands at a job that requires you to respect your supervisor's rank at the least. It really falls under courtesy, but it is implied to be the same as respect.
I am of course talking about the biggest idiot machine out there, the U.S. Military. Don't forget that while I maybe a soldier in the army, I'm not trying to recruit any of you. I just think that it would do some of you good to get some real life experience when it comes to stuff like this.
DisgruntledPostalEmployee - September 14, 2008 10:21 AM (GMT)
Yeah, or just quit and become a postman or lumberjack or some job that doesn't require you to speak to people.
MYKE - September 14, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
Or grow some balls and stop being a anti social prick?
And Anime freak, you where a engineer. We can do that without even joining the army.

Correction MYKE, I AM a Mechanic. Not just any kind of Mechanic though. I am a Tank Mechanic! Can you tell me were in the civilian world you fix a damn tank? . . . yeah, I didn't think so.
I also work in the mail room, so I'm the closest thing to DPE around here.
Wiesmann - September 14, 2008 09:08 PM (GMT)
If you want some REAL life experience, do what I'm doing and study civilian aeroplane mechanics.
Nothing says teamwork like a job that involves the very safety of hundreds of people based on your abilities.

....
My dad. Who could also kill you before you could say your first name.
UltimateLegendaryX - September 15, 2008 03:36 AM (GMT)
Dignity, respect, and curtsy are givens. I mean you don't go into work, pissing off managers, telling off customers, and telling other employees to screw themselves...then actually screw the employees in the back room.
Any and all jobs require this, regardless of the job you have. Whether it be military mechanic and/or postal employee (like Sir Freak), an incompetent teacher (like Streea is dealing with), or a cynical bastard (Like Mike, starring Lil Bow Wow)
Now on the subject of people being dicks in the workplace, Avi said it best. An example is, I fucking hate my boss, the big boss not the managers, he likes treat me like shit then shrug it off like nothing. But I don't go, "Screw you, homo" then walk away. I just bear it and make sure I don't blow my top. It's hard to do, but hey, in the end it makes you stronger.
And that's my POV

I'd like to be an unfunny dick and point out that the only engineer here is Mewchu and he's slowly being driven mad by the training alone.
Army engineers are construction workers.
Mewchu11 - September 16, 2008 03:32 AM (GMT)
Slowly is being a little charitable.
-Protip: there are a few
actual engineers in the army but they're mostly civil engineering douchebags, and civil engineering is the engineering equivalent of going to the olympics and expecting to fail to qualify.
