Title: Being Green has a dark side.
Wiesmann - July 3, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
I don't know about you, but I didn't care about gasoline prices for a while. Not until very recently when the provincial government presented a 'fantastic' tax on fuel to 'discourage driving in order to protect the environment.'
That tax brings the price of gasoline up to the painful $2.12 range.
Now I may be a bit off, but that means $8 per gallon for those who think that $2 per litre is cheap.
This form of environmentalist meddling in the government is starting to annoy me.
I don't want to be forced by someone in potatoe shoes to take a smelly bus or walk. They should take their Swiss ideas and get out of the country.
Clix - July 3, 2008 03:28 AM (GMT)
These kind of extremists aren't really for the environment. These kind of actions are more of an attack of western civilization and capitalism in general. However, since the demise of communist popularity in the turn of events from 1989 and 1990, the anti-capitalists have had to take up a new banner. Who would say no if it's for the environment? Even the founder of Green Peace left his own organization. He realised that many of the leading environmentalists were using his noble cause for their own agendas. Corruption is a nasty thing.

Potato shoes? Potatoes are for eating, you silly communist.
not to undercut you or anything, but biodiesel isn't just environmentalist. Its fuckin' capitalist. Cheap, sometimes free. readily available in crude form. The only thing you need to change in a diesel is a few TUUUUUUUBES.
srsly.
Or a Hydrox cell, which is easy to make and doubled my dad's gas mileage. So.
TheDuce - July 3, 2008 03:36 AM (GMT)
So scapegoat enviormentalism for the price of gas which was initially inflated by the oil companies? Yeah, that works.
I can't help but feel that you have misguided agression here. I would also like to know your source since the $8 a gallon figure seems really loose for the point your trying to make. (Where I live, it ranges anywhere from $4 (Cheap) to $4.50 (Not so much). A single tax nearly doubling that average seems a little much to swallow.)
Streea Barbara - July 3, 2008 03:48 AM (GMT)
2.12$ CAD/litre = 2.09$ US/litre
2.09$ US/litre = 2.09$ US/0.26 Gallon
So to bring it up to 1 Gallon we must times it by... 4.35.
Bringing it to...
9.09$ US/Gallon?
I probably fucked up somewhere but it makes sense in my head.
Anyways, where I live, in the middle of fucking nowhere, gas is still 1.42$/litre. It was about 1.36$ last week. I'm going to driving soon, and this is really pissing me off.

You should write a novel with that theory.

Yeah, I know about biodiesel and used vegetable oil. I want to do that too. ;0;
As far as I know, you can only do something like 25% mixture with diesel for new diesel cars. For older ones, just change the tubes. But older ones are hard to find in my proviiiiiince. D:

As I said, the fuel price is caused by a new government tax, not oil company prices.
$8 does sound horrific in the United States, but in other countries, such as where I live and Europe, fuel does indeed hover around the $8 mark.

Ever wondered why your parents spend nearly $100 to fill up a quarter full tank?
Yeah the prices were lower last week. But this new tax was put into effect yesterday.
Wolf - July 3, 2008 04:12 AM (GMT)
It's around 4$ here, once I'm driving my own car I'm sure the gas prices are going to be annoying for me.
Oh and inb4 someone from the UK comes over and says "STOP COMPLAINING WE PAY A LOT MORE OVER HERE"

Why? It's not like its my theory. This is something discussed heavily on conservative talk radio. Or at least on the good ones. I wish it was original... I would definately write something to make some cheap cash.
Hero_of_Fate - July 3, 2008 04:55 AM (GMT)
A lot of this gas price shit has to do with Oil companies charging more to make a quick buck before the market is gone. From what I've heard, North American governments are investigating this right now. That could help, but I suppose it might not considering it seems hippies run what's going on in your country.
Hedgecat - July 3, 2008 06:06 AM (GMT)
Dear governments of the world.
Kindly stop piss farting about with your Oil companies, grow some balls and latch onto some easier, non-arabic fuel source that isn't some bullshit petrol. Maybe if you stopped spending so much money on "LOL, REDUNDANT WEAPONRY" we'd have cars that run reliably on something easier and more readily available to produce, like, I don't know, some vegetable oil, this 'biodiesel' or hell, some brand of alcohol.
Kind regards ~ Angry Hedge

This is 6th grade science for fuck sakes.

I have yet to understand why the US doesn't run on ethanol. I mean, BESIDES the oil-companies throwing a bitch-fit if something like that were proposed.
I mean really. I think like, a FOURTH of our entire COUNTRY is nothing but corn.
TerranceJones - July 8, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
Whew... 0.0 I thought I heard that some scientists have achieved fusion...

fusion != free energy
fusion = energy from much cheaper sources

You also like meat. Crops feed us and our meat. if we used crops for fuel, there'd be less for the meat and us, and i don't think people are going to go veggie any time soon.

STOP COMPLAINING WE PAY A LO- owate I lack a car and will prolly never drive anyway so I don't need to pay anything :;D:
While I don't care for the whole fuel prices debate, I do agree with Angry Hedge and his kind regards, up until the bit about cars running on booze thing anyway. Oh God that Jack Dee sketch with the drunkard who drinks gasoline comes to mind now
Also, the title of this thread made me think this topic was about Luigi going insane or something
~ Oh the disappointment

That's IT! If we could harness the powers of Luigi's final smash, then the world's energy problems are solved!

Yeah, when we weren't on the verge of being crushed by rising gas prices and a staggering economy.

...You do know that ethanol lowers your gas-mileage, right? So... if we ran on ethanol:
1. We'd be paying out of our asses for corn, chicken, and other farm-raised animals.
2. We'd be feeling up more often then we do know. Even if ethonal is a little bit cheaper, we'll end up paying more because we have to fill up more often. Either that, or we'll end up paying about the same as we do now in the long run. Only now food costs more.
Yes, ethanol is a GREAT idea.
Hero_of_Fate - July 10, 2008 08:47 PM (GMT)
Not to mention food prices have already risen. I don't think ethanol will make a big difference in the long run anymore. There's just going to have to be something else we can use.
TerranceJones - July 11, 2008 02:33 AM (GMT)
Ethanol seems to be okay, if you're into that sort of thing. It just doesn't seem very effective in my car... I found myself just going back to the regular stuff again, since regular seemed to take my car farther...

Ethanol is not okay and you should feel bad for putting it in your car.
Run out there right fucking now and apologize to the poor thing, you magnificent twatwaffle.
