I'm recording live footage from a Dazzle USB Capture card using Instant DVD Recorder. The output file is always a .VOB. I want to convert that into an MPG file so I can use the movie I recorded for editing in Windows Movie Maker. Do you have any recommendations?
Also, my codecs are a bit messed up. I tried playing an AVI file in Windows Media Player, and it doesn't show the video at all, but it plays the audio just fine. What's weird about that is that even though WMP said "Codec Acquired", I don't see that being used in action. Also, I played the AVI file in the VLC Media Player, and it works just fine (video and audio showing). Now I tired putting such an AVI file in Windows Movie Maker, but I received an error message saying "Codec is not installed". I've updated my codecs by downloading from DivX's website, and even then it still doesn't work. Could anyone help me with this?

http://www.cccp-project.net/ I just downloaded and installed it, and now I'm able to run AVI files on my WMP, and even use it in Windows Movie Maker. Now, is there a video converter you'd recommend? I used to have a converter a long time ago which can convert VOBs into AVIs, while significantly reducing the amount of KB while maintaining the same exact quality without any alteration what so ever. Let me put it this way: 100mb from a VOB went down to 20mb as an AVI without any reduction of quality.
Also, since I have a Dazzle, is there a software that I could use so I can play what ever composite video and audio source I want through the Dazzle onto the computer without any skipping or lag? Because I'm thinking about getting an HDMI to VGA cable for my PS3 so I can play on my monitor.
Edit: I just noticed. After messing around with movie maker, I just noticed on my task bar, next to the clock. There's a bunch of icons. Six FFA Blue and Two FFV Red. It kind of annoys me. Is there a way I could hide those icons? This happened after I installed the Codec Pack, which works great by the way.
look in the start menu, for the CCCP setting program. Disable the tray icons.
as for converters, i dunno.. Try
Virtual dub, but i haven't' used it for ages, so it might not do what you need, but it is, at least, a start.
