Title: Laptop browser problems

Ta Mere - June 3, 2008 09:12 PM (GMT)
Alright, well. After seeing firsthand on both the laptop and here that Norton happens to be a massive resource hog, promptly removed it via the Control Panel.

After restarting the laptop up, it seems that neither browsers(Mozilla or IE) will load TFS, GMail, or some other websites.

Tried restarting the computer, dunno if re-installing would be necessary.

Any suggestions?

Tried both methods, neither of them made the situation the better.

OS Version, browser version, and any other utilities being run, if you please.

Microsoft XP SP 2 Media Center Edition, Mozilla Firefox 3.0 RC are the utilities being ran.

Any firewalls, or another vrius scanner being used in place of norton?

Nope, nothing. Though it seems to be working on the laptop for now. Something to do w/a buffer overload, strange.

get avast on your laptop, then.

Installed Avast as you suggested, and after rebooting the computer, Windows has seemingly taken to the habit of not fully loading. Either it'll sit there with just the blank background, or the desktop will load, but none of the toolbar processes will show(i.e. Avast), nor will any programs run.

Someone else has mentioned this. How strange. I'll have a look into it, but I'm not entirely sure what causes it.

Did a full systems recovery on the laptop, and everything seems to be running fine. Thanks for the help you offered.

Ah, yes. I'd recommend a good reformat now and then. If you've got a valid OS license, It's always a good option. Boot and nuke, then a new OS. Marvellous.
