Title: Connecting the Wii to the Net

AngelHalo - March 18, 2008 07:38 AM (GMT)
I've been playing Super Smash Bros brawl for over a week now, and nothing else since. I've went back online and played, and man, the lag was killing me. I'm not sure what it may be though, so I made this topic just to make sure.

Does the game lag due to poorly ran servers Nintendo runs? Or could it be due to my wireless router? The question above does serve some purpose, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has played Brawl online and experience the same lag problem with a wired connection, or has a better time with that than with wireless.

The lag is mostly due to the traffic in for the game, along with some of the more involved backgrounds. It may also be worse when there's more then the two minimum required to play on Wifi. Usually I experience about a half second lag when playing against one person. it also partly depends on how well the connectivity of the other players is.

Wires minimise lag.

Try setting your wireless channel to a less used one, such as 11. That speed up my connection quite a bit. Wireless connections are hampered when surrounded by other wireless devices on the same channel, and the default Router channel is a highly active one. Also, it's best just to use LAN if you're more than 1 floor away from it.

How do you change the wireless channel? I need to check it.

You need the IP of your router. You can do that by opening command prompt and typing in IPCONFIG/ALL. The one at the top should be your router's. Also, you can try routerlogin.com, which works for mine.

If you haven't changed any settings, the default should be Admin for the user, and no password. If not, try typing in "pass" or "password". Those are other common defaults.
