Title: WIP: Cador
Cador_2004 - September 16, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
I'm making this topic to keep myself from just making a new one for each time I get something moderately done with my sprites.
Currently, I've been working on making some sprites for me to use swords and the like, and I've got two selections done for the about to slash sprite. The only thing I changed is the hand currently. I would appreciate any C&C for the hand's look and shading.

Which looks better? And I shaded both the same way.

Not really much of a difference between the two. Maybe two pixels or more? At normal size its not really distinguishable but I guess zoomed in you do see a slight difference.
Option 1 fits in more as its arm doesn't suddenly grow by a few pixels. The hand however looks too rounded to me, sorta like its reverted into a Megaman blaster or whatever they're called. The fingers also don't seem to curl around the hand enough to hold something like a sword hilt.
I'd like to give an attempt if its ok with you.

Sure, the more help the better!
Darkshmoe - September 16, 2007 08:57 AM (GMT)

Tried to highlight hand features. Hands are such a pain. Etc.

...Yeah, I suck at this. I'm just going to go over a bunch of tutorials now.

And then it was known throughout the land that I CAN'T FREAKING SHADE SPRITES!

C&C on the circled parts and the overall shading plz.
Darkshmoe - October 23, 2007 04:01 PM (GMT)
More shades perhaps? The white parts such as the shoes have three shades, why not give the blue parts of armour a third shade? It might help the general look of things.
As for the circled parts, thats the problem with only using two shades, whilst its easy to do on simple poses, it looks rather iffy on certain positions. I'd suggest trying a number of different ways and then lining them up. From there, you can pick out the bits which look best and mold them to get a better look overall.
Just remember the basics and you should be fine. If its really too much of a problem, I can help out again.

The blue squares on the second set show what I've changed. And as for the Armor thing, well, I've planned on keeping the main shading for it, at least for now. Besides, It has four shades on the green parts. It's just really, really subtle in most parts.
EDIT: I just noticed the lack of shading for said green parts on the legs.

Ok, I've been doing some work on making sprites for the swords, but I seem to be having trouble making the hands. Particularly the hands holding the swords at the bottom of the sheet below. I've also hit a snag with the slash effects, and how they're supposed to look.

EDIT: I've currently put this on hold, since I've been looking for some new sprites.

I've started work on revamping my sprites. I'll be using Grey from MMZXA for my base, and I'll give you a preview when I can finish a standing pose.
EDIT: OK, I've gotten most of the colors down, and I would like some judging on the colors I should use.

It seems like the colors is better, but I can't give you much C&Cs until I see the new sprite. However, I like the sword greatly on your current sheet. Can't wait to see your new sprite. Good luck on it and I'll wait until I can finally see it up!

Alright, I've been doing some experimenting with the sprite color wise, along with a slight edit to the hair. Personally I like the two on the left the most. The one on the far right seemed...off. But I really liked how the one next to that worked out tremendously for the shades and such.

So let me get this straight...
Your changing your character into this?
With the face that can only mean that the head was a helmet...
Then that means...
YOU REALLY ARE BOBA FETT!

Wrong, Mettic. You'll just have to find out how I go from a minor edit character to a human looking one when I make the plot for it.
But that won't be for a while yet.
-Also, you're going to be killed if you call me Boba Fett one more time.
craig - January 19, 2008 07:38 PM (GMT)
Oh come on Cador you can't completely change your character you have to at least put your cannon or your helmet back.
Cador_2004 - January 19, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
Really? What would keep me from doing so?
Mettic - January 19, 2008 08:59 PM (GMT)
Cause that would be lame.
Gamemastermz - January 19, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
Finally, a chance for C&Cs...but, before I do, I have an idea how he could translate into a "human" form. I have been developing this little concept and it seems to be one of my favorite...high-develop robot made from organic metal that allows it to push its limit like a human can, aka an organic robot. What you think...good or bad?
CICs:
- The top of the head seems too odd...it looks like he has a giant forehead.
- The second sprite's color seems good, however the blue and green colors may need to be lighter and blend slightly farther apart.
- The shading need some major revamp in few area (shirt, belt, and the hands band), and minor in other places (leg, hair, head, and shoe).
- One thing you really need to improve is the leg and shoe. Using a premade legs and shoes is not a good thing, especially that it looks wrong for a male character. You really need to fix this.
Overall, I like this design...it just need some more work on it.
