Title: I don't know what to do with my life anymore

Otaku no M - July 6, 2007 09:14 PM (GMT)
I have graduated from my previous school.

This was some time ago but people still ask the same question.

What are you gonna do now?

And the answer is that I have no idea.

Before I would usually answer something along the lines of comics or manga but first of all: that's a difficult way to earn money and second: I've lost my passion for drawing it seems.
I really feel like my insperation has gone downhill lately. As if that wasn't enough it just doesn't feel like a lot of people appreciate my art anyway. Then again it might just be me.

I have been having thoughts about something else that lets me creative. Such as making games or movies. Maybe I should try something new.
But the thing is I've been studying art all my life.

Maybe that's the problem. I've grown to attached to drawing.

Maybe I'm worried that I might not have any talent in film-making and games.

Maybe I still want to draw but I just can't get any insperation.

Maybe something else is stopping me. Like lack of variety in my everyday life.

Those are theories but only theories.
And too many to be sure what the right answer is.

The question of what to do with my life when the summer is over still remains.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Anything?

Well, sometimes people spend some much time and money training and studying one thing and then end up doing something else. Maybe drawing was just a stepping stone to something else. Of course, the real trouble is that it's just as hard to make good money in the video game or movie market as well. Sometimes, even if you are good, it takes a long time before you might get anywhere. Also, maybe you should try finding inspiration if you do want to continue drawing. Maybe you just need to find the right thing. Try different ideas and find others that could help you come up with new ideas.

Well, you said you'd be intrested in taking part in game development, and artists are an important part of the entire development, as it's they who create what the developers/workers/office monkeys make.

My advice is to follow your gut, but not blindly.

You should try multiple things, make stuff out of whatever you want, draw a lot, work at makeing videos, whichever. The best way to know if you are bad or not, is if other people like it, or not. Best thing to do is to do atleast one of whichever you want to do, and show it off.

Ah, a lot of seccessful people didn't just come out of school and started making big bucks doing what they love.

For example, my favorite talk radio host didn't just become a multi-millionary overnight. Try at least 20 years. Just keep trying to find your thing in between working jobs that pay the bill.

Alright, I personally feel anyone that isn't a high school graduate or a dropout, Do not post as you have no idea what your talking about.

It's rough to find your life's calling, two years ago, I thought I was going to get into culinary but now I am gonna become a welder, yet I have a stronger chance becoming a chef.
I personally would suggest that you work on getting an apprenticeship while your deciding what you wanna do so that way you have something to fall back at least.
