Title: Opinion: More hosted comics? (closed)
Mewchu11 - June 30, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)
It's pretty straightforward guys. That list is starting to get a little anemic.
-Leaving this one open for comments/suggestions
Bolts - June 30, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
Erm....I'd reccomend BobandGeorge.com its a pretty well known comic and I don't think Dave has ever objected to having people link to him.
Anime Freak - June 30, 2007 03:27 AM (GMT)
Sounds like a good idea to me, but we'll need to actually find some that don't already have forums of their own. Unless they're inclined to moving of course. And what of some of the ones in the supporters bar? I know that practically all of them have been here or are still here, but what about Comic Demons? What say you Nate?

Nono, we mean, being the official forums for comics that don't have their own forums. Like The Rogue's Gallery, and TTA and such. Not just linking.
Anyways, aye, this is what the forum started as, and look where it got us. Sounds like a good idea to me.
Wolf - June 30, 2007 03:47 AM (GMT)
Eh, sure.
But maybe if we do ask for more hosted comics, we... take a vote on who gets hosted or something? I don't think having a comic that nobody likes should be hosted here. It just wouldn't seem to be a wise idea.

Oh! hmmm well there are alot of links to other comics from bobandgeorge.com I don't know how many of them have their own forum but I'm sure you guys could find some there.
Just throwin out ideas
GamemasterAnthony - June 30, 2007 05:30 AM (GMT)
I definitely think the board could benefit from hosting more comics...if for nothing else to see what we've been missing from works being done by other people we know who are members here.
nyrin II - June 30, 2007 07:55 AM (GMT)
Hosted comics are a good idea, but don't you think there should be a minimum amount of comics done before it should be hosted here? I mean, the person gets the first couple up, but then chooses to stop for some reason, then we have another dead area on the forum.
I'd say fifteen comic minimum, just so we know that the Author is willing to continue
And I'm going to ask, if this goes though, if my friends webcomic ( www.pressesc.tk ) could go up. Yes, he has his own forum, of which I Admin, but it's more or less for his Heroes Campaign and such, but just a small forum, which need some action >.<
Anywho, my two cents
Mewchu11 - June 30, 2007 08:24 AM (GMT)
...you know we have standards here. Honestly speaking a decent groundwork number of comics is a first order necessity.
-Protip: TFS got famous through comics, comics didn't get famous through TFS
Alastor Blackrose - June 30, 2007 03:08 PM (GMT)
Sure, I'm all for it. But, as Wolf said, let's vote on the comics before we host them.
Jet - June 30, 2007 03:31 PM (GMT)
I'm gonna sit on the proverbial fence post on this one.
Someone would kindly say it's "Pulling a Beta" to try and get more advertising to TFS via comic hosting, but TFS is going through a moment of stagnation that's hard to ignore.
Storm - June 30, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
The part I don't get is that when even a few people are online, they don't really post that much... unless I'm missing where they're posting... I've also noticed this place is divided into sections.
1. SI Surfers
2. Roleplayers
3. Lurkers
I for one fall under the first category as much as I hate to say it... and I try to steer from there sadly there isn't much that grabs my attention even though there are plenty of other things I have to do.
Basically what I'm saying is I am all for a gimmick of some sort to bring in the masses.
Edwurdo - June 30, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
TFS does not need a gimmick to bring the masses Nick. When it comes to the internet, 'masses' tends to translate to 'morons in their numbers' and having something that appeals to as many twats as possible isn't always gonna be a good thing
The Smash Brother boards at GameFAQs being a shinning example
Even so, one of my reasons for joining this dump in the first place was for the comics, I may not take much interest in many webcomics nowadays but I wouldn't mind seeing a few being hosted here, so long as they're actully decent and have an update schedule is more often then once in a blue moon

Yeah, I think you're missing something...
I'm all for more comics being hosted. Perhaps it could bring a bit of dimension to our rather 2-d world... Or whatever.
Storm - June 30, 2007 06:52 PM (GMT)
Or we could all just post links to TFS on other forums we go to.
Cador_2004 - June 30, 2007 07:23 PM (GMT)
Well, I know of an ok sprite comic that is like the one Nyrin talked about, and *gasp* it has an actual sense of some seriousness in it! Plus, although it's probably considered noobish, is looking for other characters in it. Heck, I'm going to be added into it soon, but some of the custom sprites are kind of bad. Of course, most of the people who are (considered) authors are really wanted to look like someone in particular, just recolored. And if anyone says I'm a recolor, I reply with AkumaTH's 250th TFS comic. should I make a link to the comic?

Not necesarily. Some forums have special parts where you may advertise forums.
We could also put a banner for TFS in our signatures on other forums.

Why dont we just stick to adding them as ads on OUR websites and the supporter bar?
Ekoi - July 2, 2007 05:38 AM (GMT)
I'm all for the idea.
I'll go talk to some people I know with good comics.
(BTW, for those who think I forgot, I DID end up getting advertizing at DA, but it only lasted for about 2 or 3 days. X3)

The signature idea is a good though in theory, but it doesn't mean it'll work. I've had a link for a forum that I help Administrate in my signature for almost two years now and all the members there were brought there by invitation for the most part. We haven't even broken the triple digits on members and those that are there don't post. There are maybe six active members out of like sixty.
I'm not saying that you can't try it of course. ^_^;;
Demigod - July 2, 2007 11:55 PM (GMT)
I would say yes, as long as its actually a good comic that will bring more members in.
Cador_2004 - July 3, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
Here is the comic I mentioned. It starts out pretty slow, and a little noobish, but when the story picks up, it gets better.
NOTE: all recolored characters asked to look like that. And he's working on adding next and previous buttons at the bottom of the comic. They are currently at the top of each comic.
janusx85 - July 3, 2007 04:39 AM (GMT)
Hmmm, I'd say there's no harm in trying out this idea.
Red Ryu - July 3, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
Vote on comics first, that way the comics that the mass majority like will be posted in more.
